After using the iPhone for a couple of days, I still prefer my Shuffle for music on the go.

Next generation non-Nano/Shuffle would almost have to be a media player just to keep up with the rest of the market. Mac OS and wireless access and bluetooth with something like an iChat application (Video iChat?) might make a great media player, but your still limited by access to a network.

Why does everyone think WiFi on an iPod would be useless or stupid?

Maybe because an iPod with JUST wifi (and not EDGE, or 3G, or another way to "connect") would make it a VERY limited product for a LOT of people. Maybe not for someone like me, who lives in NYC and can find wifi anywhere -- but for a large segment of the population it actually would be useless.

Apple likes to be all-inclusive, which is exactly why they chose the more available EDGE for their iPhone, and not the faster (but less available) 3G network.

Years from now, when wifi is everywhere, then they might put just wifi on an iPod. BUt I don't think we're quite there yet...

Whether it is with wifi or edge, I think the big point here will be to access the iTunes Music Store.

Just as Safari/Web Browsing was a main talking point for the iPhone, I think that logging into the iTunes Music Store, purchasing, downloading, and then listening to songs or watching video on the go will be a big selling point for the next iPod, if that is indeed the direction they wish to take it.

And it will have an anti-theft device built in: when the iPod detects a touch by a non-owner's body part it delivers a shock that stuns the "toucher". In :apple: style, the antitheft device will have several convenient presets such as (i) for pesky friends (light jolt), (ii) family members (not sure on this one - would depend on my mood, I suppose), (iii) most others (stun) and (iv) Bin Laden and FBI's 10 most wanted (kill).

Now, the only thing I know for sure is that I am certainly not buying a revision A. ;)

I like that idea... brilliant.... but same like u, i will not buy the Revision A... unless I plan to kill myself... hehe....

Good point.

Totally...plus the ability to stream to an Airport Express would be fantastic.
I wholeheartedly agree. Tossing the iPod in my pocket and streaming it to my AE would be amazing. Especially since I could use it to change songs. Almost like killing the remote by making it the media player. I love that idea!

6G iPod Form Factor

Good ideas here, guys. Some of the basic things I'd like would be at least 12OGB and Stereo Bluetooth. And yes, I'd LOVE Sirius/XM too!! And naturally, it must have the optical-glass touch screen of the iPhone (or the rumored 'rear touch' version), Cover Flow and so on.

Beyond this, the 6th Gen should definately be video-centric. And THAT brings up my real "want" for it: a Cinemascope 2.40 to 1 aspect ratio screen! They could call the thing the "iPod Palm Theatre" or something. And with at least 120GB's it would hold plenty of movies---AND music. This screen ratio is EASY to achieve: just take a current 5G iPod, turn it on it's side, lengthen the case by approximately 1 and 3/8 inches, and extend the screen---at the same set-back from the edge as on the 5G---across the whole face. Viola! You now have a full 'Scope aspect ratio of 2.40 to 1! All movies, TV shows, videos, etc would play in "constant height" mode with black pillars on the sides if less than 2.40/1. You'd see EVERYTHING as originally made with NO CROPPING! This device would only be slightly longer than an iPhone and way-smaller than a PSP. VERY DO-ABLE, Apple! We WANT it!! And just in time for the Christmas shopping season would be ideal!
