The 'smartwatches are useless' crowd is neck and neck with the 'check out this trivial item I did with my AW, it's so totally worth it' crowd.
Forget about checking the weather, everywhere I have used the AW to pay for things, I ALWAYS gets "That is so cool" or "I want one" responses.

The AW can be very useful in many ways but the majority of people have not owned a smart watch yet so they are having a hard time justifying it.

This all reminds me so much of when the iPad came out. Comments like "It's just a big iPhone" were hilarious.

Overheard tomorrow in HR:

Boss: "That chick with the Apple Watch, the smartass, what are we paying her?"

HR: "Oh you mean Susan? Well, clearly we're paying her enough to afford a superfluous redundant gadget."

Boss: "Paycut. Now."

HR: "On it boss."

Boss: "And have IT get me an Apple Watch. I need to keep up with the times."

Yeah, I did consider that... :D

My bank doesn't use :apple:Pay, and though I have one credit card on there, I don't want to use it for everything. So I haven't had occasion yet to use my AW to pay for something, but am looking forward to that...

It's posts like these that make me shockingly realize I'm in the minority. I don't use my debit card for anything. I don't let anyone in my checking account. With all the data breaches out there, when thieves get cash out using your debit card, it takes sometimes days or weeks to get it back from your bank. If you use a credit card, you just say the charges aren't yours and they cancel it and send a new one.

I went with Amex years ago for this. Pay it off at the end of the month with the same money you would have spent out of your checking account.

A lot of the time when people refer to their bank, they're talking about the bank that provides the credit card, such as a BoA mastercard or a Citibank visa. They're still talking credit cards, not debit cards.

Every minute I tell folks its not about longer involvement with the technology and more about getting discrete information unlike getting a tweet then launching Facebook because you got the phone out and may as well...

Which brings up another interesting point. Why can't I just get a VISA? Why does it have to be a Chase Visa or whatever?

So when Apple advertises that it works with MasterCard and Visa that's not really true.

That being said, this is only number 37 of the 413 reasons why Amex continues to be the best. I rarely, maybe 3-4 times a year find a place that doesn't take Amex.

American Express is a bank also.

I believe VISA and MasterCard are clearinghouses.

I actually was referring to my debit card, which I use for most small purchases. My main credit card is on my watch for use on :apple:pay, but I don't use it for day to day purchases.

Just my choice about how I manage my money and my cards.
