What is the best alternative web browser for iPad?

Guys, I have spent the past week or so fairly extensively testing out iCab, Sleipnir and Atomic Browser. They all added something over the regular Safari interface, but something felt somewhat lacking to me.

And then I stumbled upon Grazing - http://www.grazingbrowser.com/

This thing is just incredible, the features, the interface and general level of polish are simply mind blowing. Nothing else even comes close to it, and I really hope people give it a try. The reviews on the store aren't great due to previous problems, but they were fixed long ago, and regular (weekly) updates ensure that you get a near perfect browsing experience.

I really cannot recommend it highly enough.

Grazing is faster and elegant(er) ;-)

Seriously, having used all of the main browsers for some time it really saddens me that more people aren't using Grazing, it completely destroys the opposition, managing to keep up in terms of features, but also having a much simpler, more intuitive, and super slick interface.

Care to offer a disclaimer like "I have no affiliation with Grazing", because this sounds an awfull lot like a marketing attempt. I mean, seriously, "destroys the opposition"? Dismissing bad reviews? Etc.

If you really are just a satisfied customer, great. You might want to temper your enthusiasm, though, to keep it from sounding like total used-car-salesmen tactics...

I absolutely have no affiliation with them, but it is genuinely the best app I have ever had on my phone (and I've probably had thousands, to be honest - I am quite bad at having to play any game, or try any app, that sounds even slightly interesting), even better than my beloved BiteSMS - so apologies for getting carried away.

I only mentioned the reviews because to me they were very off-putting, and it takes a lot to see past things like that for someone like me, who compulsively checks Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic for absolutely every purchase without fail.

Sorry if it came across badly, for what it's worth I was just as hyperbolic in real life, just showing two of my friends at work who were similarly in awe and downloaded the app too!

iCab. It's fast and elegant.

Have a few installed: icab, dolphin, atomic. Icab has the best design and usability.

Are you guys using a different version of iCab to me as I find it aggravatingly slow to load pages and dreadfully jerky when scrolling?

I used to love iCab but once the sticky jerky scrolling happened I couldn't bear to use it. I emailed the developer and he said that Apple wouldn't let devs have access to the code that Safari uses to make it smoother. Are you all using it on iPad 2's?

I'm with you MacRy...and I've heard the same BS about the APIs...not to insinuate the developer is attempting to deceive...but I've got probably two dozen browsers now installed on my iPad2 and there are several that I don't notice the lag or "stickiness" that seems so evident these days with iCab (definitely my favorite browser for iPad). I just think it's too darn heavy! iCab does more than most desktop browsers it seems:)

However...the new Safari from iOS5 with the tabs is pretty sweet. I just wish there was a (non-universal) way to control text size (ala iCab). It's my number one desire for browsers, the ability to zoom the text without (most of the time) screwing up the site's perspective.

Long story short...I'm with ya, and it seemed as though it's much worse lately (new update or something), as I had a chance to play all day (while watching football) on Sunday with my iPad. There certainly aren't enough of those days anymore!

sorry but I don't want to have a grass icon on my iPad, grazing is out of the questions just like atomic because of ugly and low quality thumbnail.

I'm with you MacRy...!

Glad it's not just me. It's so disappointing too as I love iCab as a browser but I just can't live with its performance. Safari on iOS5 is great but I get annoyed with it constantly reloading tabs even when I've closed all other Apps. Other browsers seem to be able to cope with numerous tabs open so Apple's native one should really. Plus it's really unstable at the moment, constantly crashing. Having said that, it's still my browser of choice. Mainly for the speed and fluidity.

I tried the Dolphin browser and I really like it apart from the fact that it tries to turn every site into a webzine and you can't turn that off. Plus links become unresponsive after a while until you quit the App and reopen it and when it is working and you want to open a tab in the background it opens the link in the current page anyway. A shame it has these faults because I really like the interface. It could be a nice little browser.

Give it a try and you'll probably realise that an 'ugly icon' is very much worth it in this case.

Check out Apollo IM. Truly amazing fast tabbed browser with built-in Facebook chat, and bookmark compatibility with Chrome and Firefox.

I've tried them all. This is hands down the best of the best!

Just tried it. It is indeed fast but it doesn't let you open tabs in the background which is a must for me unfortunately.

Yes I totally agree. That was my only complaint about Safari. No background tabs. I have tried out quite a bit of browsers and right now safari is fast and doing what I need it to do.

Well, it is pretty clear that Atomic is the number 1 web browser. I have tried them all and this is the one I prefer as well.

However, if you need Flash, nothing beats Photon web browser. It's my go to browser if I need to see anything Flash related. If Atomic could integrate Photon, it would be the perfect browser.

There all slower than safari but I still love atomic better than the stock browser
