Now that I have both an iPad and iPad2, my iOS void has been filled. No longer feel the need to "have" an iPhone.
All options are on the table now for my next phone. Seriously considering an Android, but it will be one produced by Google, so I'm not waiting months to years to get updates to the OS.

Have a iPad 1 and having been using wireless hotspot to connect up. Awaiting for my iPad2(prepared for shipment for last 3 days) and just got the almighty HTC Thunderbolt with true 4G (LTE). Super fast internet anywhere I am at. Gotta love the combo.. best of both worlds..

Oooooo the thunderbolt does look sweet! But why did you say true 4g? Does my EVO have fake 4g or something?

I have an Evo 4g as well with my iPad 2. I will never switch to iphone when it comes to my cell phone. Android is just too good to me. To me, the only great advantage about the iphone is the apps and thats why I got the ipod touch to fill that void haha. I just rooted my evo to get free wifi tethering to my ipad and it works flawlessly. This is just my preference though.

What Bob said....

I have the same combo, it's amazing. Hit 30Mbps the other day. :D

I just got an iPad 2.

May get my first smartphone this summer--want to see how the iPhone 5 compares and what the next batch of Android phones look like (the new Incredible S looks decent from the review I just read on Engadget; Thunderbolt looks good as well).

I'm leaning more toward going Android for the phone to not have so much overlap and have access to two different app stores etc.. Also I'll go Android if the iPhone 5 doesn't get better reviews for voice quality and reception as I primarily use my cell for phone calls.

I'm also still debating whether to bother with a smartphone as the data plans are overpriced given I spend 95%+ of my time near wifi since I have wifi both at home and work.

My ideal would be for them to offer data plans like for the 3G ipad. No contract and can just buy a month here or there when traveling etc.

I get 4mbps while tethering my evo to my ipad 2. its amazing! I can only imagine thunderbolt's speed

iPad 2 with a rooted evo here as well! I used to be an iPhone user but I love my evo with cyanogen 7!

Didn't know there was so many evo users with iPad 2's

I think this is the year that I'll make a (partial) switch to Android. Perfectly happy with the iPhone 4, it's pretty amazing so it'll take something special to woo me away.

However with tablets, Honeycomb does look like the way to go. I'm not the sole user of the iPad in the house and because iOS is what everyone knows and loves I'll get the iPad 2 this Friday. Also the form factor is undeniably fantastic. However, if the Xoom was just that little bit thinner, or if it seemed just that little bit smoother (In the videos that I've seen, the menus doesn't zip around, there appears to be a little lag), I would be saving my pennies for a week later.

I love both my Nexus One on Gingerbread and iPad. I also had a brand new iPhone 4 but it just doesn't compare to Nexus One on so many levels. The only thing better on iPhone 4 is the amazing screen. Other than that, there is no doubt both OS are the best ones on the market now.

You forgot a few important things...

iPhone 4 -
1) Corporate enforcement of security settings.
2) Application signing.
3) Hardware encryption.

Nexus S -
1) Nope, strike one.
2) Nope, strike two.
3) ROFLMAO, of course not. A 14 year old can hack your device. Strike 3.

Browsing on the Xoom is much better than the iPad. The pages load faster, there are tabs, the ability to force pages to load desktop versions--not to mention flash. Everything else is a bit of a compromise though. It's harder to get music and video onto it, reading ebooks isn't quite as nice, and the screen could be nicer.

It's a surprisingly good rough draft though. I think next year both Apple and the makers of Android tablets will have HD versions. I bet iOS will have some form of widgets by then, while Google will finally figure out a better music and video solution for their platform. Should be fun.

Flash ??? If you say so buddy. I also use Atomic web browser. I get tabbed browsing and the ability to load 'desk top' versions.

Check this PC Mag article on the Xoom and its wonderful beta version of flash. Also note the comparison of browsing certain websites on the iPad and Xoom. Yea it might change in a few weeks, it might not. But what works now ?

Of all the things I mentioned in my post only one word mattered--flash. lol

It's certainly true that it doesn't work on every site properly. However, it did work well on two network sites that I visited and I was able to play two full episodes of shows (without stuttering) that would not play on the iPad -- but which were available in iTunes for $2.99 each. Best of all, I got videos on my favorite porn site to play--again without stuttering. Try to do that on your Disney iPad I dare you. :)

As buggy as it is, its functional enough to make a big difference and its better to have it as an option than not have it at all. Don't get me wrong, overall I'd say the iPad is still the best tablet out there for a number of reasons and I'm probably going to get one. I'm just focusing on one aspect of both tablets--web browsing. On this point, the Xoom is better.

Oh and don't forget.....

Nexus S -
1) OTA OS updates straight from Google
2) NFC
3) Full OS voice command integration

Iphone 4 -
1) Nope, strike one.
2) Nope, strike two.
3) Nope, strike three.

The bottom line is that the features you listed could be just as unimportant to someone as the features that I listed. Let's not let this turn into a phone battle now.

Once the US is down to just Verizon and ATT, those free tethering options will be history.

Shows, network ? Actually I did mention tabbed browsing and the ability to mimic desktop browsers with Atomic. As far as porn viewing porn videos on the iPad, to each his own.

Okay, my bad. We were talking about the Nexus One, I don't know how S got in my post.:) The One doesn't do NFC, and I'll handle my own mobile device OS updates thank you. I don't understand why the 'feature' of a 14 year old being able to hack your phone would be unimportant, but to each his own.

I use my Droid 2 and iPad together. I love android phones, but the tablet goes to apple right now.
