There's an ATT store across the street from my job (Water and Wall street, in lower manhattan), I'm gonna try that first. There's like 2-3 other ATT stores within a 4 mile radius, so I'm hoping there's a good chance if I get there early enough I can snag one. :D

Yea, but you REALLY think AT&T will have it the same day Job's announces it like an Apple Store would?

I would think the new iPhone would be available at AT&T Stores the same day it is available at Apple Stores.
I doubt the iPhone will be available anywhere on the 9th.

Don't you think :apple: would want to build some hype all week and release it on Thursday or Friday next week?

Exactly. Which is why those who think the new iPhone will start selling on the day of or right after the 9th are just going to be disappointed

Apple will try (and rightfully so) to milk the hype for the 3G iPhone

I'm thinking it won't be available until the end of the month and will ship with firmware 2.0.

That would suit me better anyway... I might be able to afford it by then :)

I agree it will ship with 2.0 but I think it may be earlier than the end of June. I just feel as though theres to much anticipation and making us wait this long they'll surprise us with either an immediate release after the keynote or very shortly after WWDC ends. I sure hope they do, my stimulus check is burning a hole in my pocket.

This is no hype. The average person doesn't care about 3G.

i would say att store cause when ever people think iphone they think apple store not att. so i would go to the att store

What if it is more than 3G as rumors support. Video conferencing? GPS? Smaller? Different Colors? More storage?

If Steve (or who ever does it) describes all these new features really well during the keynote, it will get press, and hype will be created. In recent years, Apple has made both local and national news the days of their keynotes. Their products are by far superior to others. This press coverage may influence many more people to want it.

Remember, Apple's marketing system is one of the greatest ever. Just holding that white bag (or gray) with the little apple logo... As basic as it is, it makes everyone get a little feeling inside.

This is no hype.

Forbes is reporting that Apple's new 3G iPhone has hit the docks in Oakland and is set to be unveiled at the imminent Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. This is interesting but mostly old news.

What is truly intriguing is the research Forbes and others have been doing to glean information about the device, from reading shipping logs to mileage counts on Steve Jobs' jet.

Is the device worth the hype?

Measuring the 3G iPhone Hype
http://www.i4u.com/article17862.html

Will Apple roll out a 3G iPhone? If they don't, it'll be the biggest technology letdown of the year. For months, nearly every pundit, analyst and blogger has been wearing off fingertips writing about the 3G iPhone, and although the hype hasn't reached the level seen last year before the iPhone went on sale, it's darn close.

Apple's New iPhone: Let the Frenzy Begin

The tech world is buzzing about the next generation iPhone. For the companies that make accessories and software, the much-anticipated sequel could be a billion-dollar boon.

There is plenty of hype.

There is hype when Apple milks the release date and the average person see's there's a NEW iPhone coming out soon.

It's possible but nothing will compare to the original release of a BRAND NEW product that doesn't compare to anything on the market.

you dont think there is enough hype already??

I think there could be a LOT MORE hype if they announce it on the 9th and wait a week to put it out on the market

The hype has been built but right now I don't think it is nationally as big as the original but with a week of hype post-conference, I think it could exceed it

Your AVERAGE CONSUMER will not care about the "OMG NEW iPHONE" if it doesn't look visually different then the current iPhone. They don't care about a 3G CHIP or a faster processor or whatever.

This is a fact.

The average consumer won't care about more battery life, faster internet, more space for the iPod Touch, and a possible GPS locator?

Seems to me the average consumer has more reason TO BE interested in this phone than the previous iPhone

No, they won't. Your average consumer has already purchased the iPhone last year when it came out. MOST of the population WILL NOT upgrade their iPhone, a $400 - $600 device, only after a year of having it.

Just look at the demand for LAST GENERATIONS iPhone. People don't care about the new version or 3G or more space, they just want an iPhone. Do you really think the people who have purchased an iPhone in the last 6 months will upgrade? No.

Now, if Apple really does expect 10 million iPhones sold they'll have to subsidize it. Just look at your average consumer - they won't spend more than $50 on a new cell phone. 90% of people get the free phone. This is the demographic I see Apple aiming for - people who can't afford a $500 device.

That's not to say the iPhone 2 won't be incredibly popular. Just look at all the nerds here on MacRumors. Also, if a new customer is interested in an iPhone they will obviously buy the new version.

If there is some sort of upgrade option, even if just a slight bump, I could see a lot more upgrading then people think

If not, I still think sales will be solid for those with original iPhones
