This is not how eBay works, which would say to me it is fraudulent.

The new Penryn models start out at 2.4GHz. That one is a 2.2GHz model, so it's a Santa Rosa processor, the previous model.

The chipset is Santa Rosa, not the processor. The processor of the previous gen is the newer of the two mobile Core 2 Duos, the first batch being released in mid 06.

I think I will go for this

Anyone have any better ideas of me fitting in a $1600 budget?

This is 1449 + taxes so should be just over 1500.

Any better ideas?

My best bet is to get a Refurb and I will do that I think. My budget is about 1600.

Amazon is selling previous generation 2.2ghz Mbps for just over $1500 after rebate...why go for refurb when you can get new?

Is it a mail-in rebate? Problem is that I am not in USA and I'm having a friend bring it down here for me when he goes to visit his family in USA in 2 weeks. So the mial-in rebate doesnt really work...

I think I would prefer apple refurb over amazon new. I hardly ever hear about refurbs having any issues with screen yellowing or drive noise like you do sometimes with new models.

no you can't use a student discount with refurbs though unfortunately:(

Man so hard to decide....I can go new from amazon or refurb from apple for about the same price.

From amazon i could maybe get this

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook...s=pc&qid=1208815700&sr=1-11#productPromotions

It's 1680 after the rebate... could prolly stretch my budget to that...

EDIT:

The rebate is no longer good...

Amazon.com Rebate
Rebate Offer: Receive $150 from Amazon.com with this mail-in rebate.

3/31/08 4/30/08 $150.00

You have to purchase by 3/31/08...and it's april already haha

EDIT 2: Nevermind, there is another one and it ends today....Arghhh

I'm sure they'll renew it within a few days....but otherwise this is your incentive to act quickly and be done with it!

Do you think the rebate might be bigger tomorrow or most likely the same thing or less?

I'm pretty sure it'll be the same. I've never seen a rebate on macs greater than $150...

Ok last question before i bite the bullet...Glossy screen or not? Pros and cons...I usually don't like glossy because of the reflection...is there any plus for the glossy screen?

if you dont like the glare dont get glossy

Agreed. If you're hesitant, get matte. If you don't like reflections, get matte. Just get matte! Glossy is nice if you're in a dark room watching a DVD, but for other purposes matte is more flexible IMO.

Go bite that bullet!

Ok I did it

Shipping estimate for these items: April 28, 2008
1 "Apple MacBook Pro MA896LL/A 15" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)"

So did I make the right choice?

1835.28$ - 150$ rebate = 1685.28$

My budget started at 1100$ and I was gonna just get a little Dell...I want to see my dads reaction when he will see his credit card statement

Thank for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I am really really happy that I managed to buy the MacBook Pro. I used to have a Mini and loved it a lot...I really like OS X. But back then you couldn't put windows on it and i really need it for some things, mostly games :p

I will only get mine on May 11th :( But amazon said they will only ship on the 28th of april...It's all good.

Anything i should get for it? any accessories that you guys think i will NEED to make life easier?

I never got something Refurbished...Can yo guys tell me exactly what they do to the laptops and how they get them back? Scary :p

they are not always "refurbished" most of the time it is old stock they are trying to get rid of. Refurbished is they way to IMO.

Just curious - why won't it ship out until April 28? Did you choose the slow shipping option? I usually order second day shipping and they ship the same day.

Cool. Amazon is usually great with fast shipping so it surprised me, but it's already on its way. How painful to have to wait so long though....
