In the USA over 60% of Americans belong to "family plans" plus discounts.

Like my plan including taxes with ATT is $175 a month for 4 phones. 3 lines with unlimited data. Unlimited texting. Any mobile calling and 700 minutes with rollover.

Those who have one line or even 2 lines get ripped off badly with the carriers in the USA.

But family plans often result in big savings especially when many get 15-25% company discounts with their bills.

Mmm... interesting. Here all advantages you get from family plans is saving around €9 per line. Nothing more. I guess that's why everyone tends to have their own line here.

I'll have to find myself a family to stick to if I ever go to live to the US. :D

No this is on contract.

I'm an employee, and with my 5 lines on my account I pay a total of 155ish before taxes.

All of us have data plans, but vary in size: mines 10gb, gf is 2gb, sister and dad is 500mb and mom is 100mb. But even then with all my features and components in my plan, I'm quite happy with the overall price.

Sorry, I meant with contract....:D Oh okay, so this is on a shared family plan :) Makes sense.
