AT&T

I believe Tmobile offers some sim only plans with unlimited 3G data. If your iphone is unlocked and Tmobiles refarmed their network in your area to work with the iphone then its a pretty decent deal.
Most MVnO's have 1 or 2GB data packages.

The people I know that have TMo in Philly voice is horrible.

Sprint:
450 Talk Minutes
Free Nights and Weekends
Unlimited Mobile to Mobile (any carrier not just sprint to sprint)
Unlimited Txt messages
Unlimited Data (LTE in select places)
15% Employer Discount

Total:
$72.17 a month

Not too bad

If you're worried about price, you're better off using pre-paid. If you look around, there's a post on mr looking at gsm mvno providers. They have their limitations and you usually have to bring a phone. For the price, however, it can't be beat.

Can't believe how expensive plans are in the US. I don't have one of these as my company takes care of my bill but there are several MVNOs which offer plans such as:

Voice: €0.019/minute with no connection charges. (0.025$/minute that is)
Data: 1GB for €9. (3G) Extra GB for €6 (I think).
SMS: €0.15

In the USA over 60% of Americans belong to "family plans" plus discounts.

Like my plan including taxes with ATT is $175 a month for 4 phones. 3 lines with unlimited data. Unlimited texting. Any mobile calling and 700 minutes with rollover.

Those who have one line or even 2 lines get ripped off badly with the carriers in the USA.

But family plans often result in big savings especially when many get 15-25% company discounts with their bills.

Bell Mobility

Unlimited data (hspa+) no lte
Unlimited incoming calls
Free eve after 6 and unlimited weekends
unlimited text
voicemail
caller ID
350 anytime minutes
Free bell mobile to mobile calling
call waiting and conference calling
$23/month taxes included

Tmobile just enabled 1900mhz 3G+ in my area 4 days ago so I'm starting to think.
How much I could save with sim only no contract plans with them with unlimited 3G.
Do I want to leave AT&T and LTE though?
$59 unlimited everything including taxes...

T-Mobile only has sims (microsims and the anticipated nanosim will probably come out in the near future), which are for month-to-month...they don't offer the iPhone 5 and thus, don't have a contract for it. :(

True...but even though it saves you more money in the long run, I find it incredibly difficult to spend $650 at one time on a phone.

Yep with AT&T I pay $185 for 4 lines with unlimited data, unlimited text, mobile to any mobile, 700 mins rollover.

With no contract types/prepaid it's not cost effective for a family plan. For a single line definitely.

They have microsims that you can cut to nano sim size with either a cutter or manually.
And they should have nanosims in most stores soon.
They dont offer the iphone 5 or any iphone on contract but if you have one unlocked you can save some money with them.

I'm quite sure a bunch of the Canadian plans listed here are retention plans, in that they are negotiated 2-3 years into a contract.

True. And yes, unlocked certainly saves money in the long run, but $650 (mininmum) is a lot to pay at one time. However, it's the wiser choice. :)

True.
If you can afford it just like with everything else. You pay more at first but you keep saving in the long run and make out more on your initial investment.

as an fyi, most college students can get a discount on their phone bill through their school. probably just for larger carriers like AT&T Sprint Verizon.

Probably won't be much, just 10% or so, but thought i'd mention it.

And this is without contract?

No this is on contract.

I'm an employee, and with my 5 lines on my account I pay a total of 155ish before taxes.

All of us have data plans, but vary in size: mines 10gb, gf is 2gb, sister and dad is 500mb and mom is 100mb. But even then with all my features and components in my plan, I'm quite happy with the overall price.
