is there any way to tell if the macbook pro is refurbished? like, does the serial number give it away, or anything else?

I want to get it as a present for my sister, but don't want her ever finding out i bought her a refurb ;)

it will have an SKU specifically for REfurbs.
but she won't know that.. until she brings it on for repair or something..
and the box.. you won't get the white shiny box.. you'll get a brown one.
but it's a lot of savings..

hmm.. i guess so.
the thing is, most APPLE buyers know how good the refurbs are anyway.. sometimes it's better than the new one since it has been tested etc.. so more likely you won't end up with a LEMON.
you'll be selling it a little less than if u purchased it NEW.

yes...and no....I got my macbook for only $800 when this happened way long ago...and now it is behind alot...next time I'm totally going for the fresh MBP...but I might just wait until WWDC '08 to see what we get

Depends. If you're really hot for a refurb, get the "Apple-Discounts.com" widget and watch. I was able to snag my 15" MBP for pennies on the dollar compared to new ones courtesy of this widget. The store sold out of them within minutes.

5% Cashback Bonus with Discover Card

I jumped ahead and bought the $1449 2.2GHz MBP last night to replace my aging Powerbook 12". I'm so disappointed at the MBA as it's still sized the same as a MacBook.

TIP! Discover Card users get 5% cashback bonus when you purchase any item on the Apple Store online!! I called Discover to confirm if that includes refurbished and they said yes. You must log into the Discover account page and then click the Apple Store link from within.

So $1449 + tax + 5% Cashback = ~$1480!!!

Refurb doesn't necessarily mean it's a refurbished product on Apple.com. You could very well end up with a brand new, never-used last-revision MBP but with the serial number changed.

Obviously, Apple can't sell the older ones as new now on the Apple Store and I'm sure they have plenty of inventory on the now-old MBPs so they're clearing stock by selling it in the refurbished section.

Nice!! Congrates to you too! I really was hoping Apple brought out a true Powerbook 12" successor (aka smaller MBP) so I could replace it. But for the price, this one is too good not to miss even if it is too big for my tastes.

I got a chance to spend a week with the MacBook Air for reviewing purposes and was quite disappointed at the size and features. I do like the multi-touch trackpad feature but that and the modest bump in speed wasn't compelling enough for me to want to hop onto the new MBPs.

thinking bout gettign the refurd too
an thinking bout getting a RAM for it, so does the mbp comes with 2x1gb ? so it means i have to buy 2x 2gb for a 4gb ?

any recomendation on where to get the RAM ?

Thanks
