Since I've already made the transition to the minimalist approach I'd have to agree. Just picked up a clear Tech & Go snap on from Walgreen's while I wait on my MediaDevil rear protector set to arrive on Monday though.
(I am an iPhone case addict and have bought way too many cases over the years)
I like cases best that are TPU or hard shell with a shock-absorbing inner layer. I like a case that is minimalist and mimics/does not alter the basic shape of the iPhone. I don't like too much outer tactile design (in other words, I want it to feel smooth). Anything that feels good in the hand. I do want a moderate amount of protection if the phone suffers a fall or drop onto concrete or pavement. A lip extruding over front of screen protects the screen when lying face down on a hard surface. I like choices in color besides black/gray/brown/white. I would love to find a clear case that showed off instead of covering up my lovely white 5 but the hard clear cases scratch easily and the TPU ones yellow over time. My favorite case thus far for iPhone 5 is the Belkin Candy Grip Sheer. I have really liked Speck Candyshell in the past for its feel in the hand and protection but it seems especially bulky on the slim and sleek iPhone 5. I like some of CaseMate's offerings as well, especially if you need something extra protective.
