It all comes down to personal preference. Every aspect of a phone case is a very subjective trait. Each person is going to define what "looks better" differently. Even further, there's really no way to tell someone over the internet what is going to "protect" their phone the best. You want optimal protection? Only use your phone in a padded cell. Otherwise, it's up to the individual to determine the balance of looks/bulk/protection that THEY need and then go from there.

As mentioned, verizon will likely let you try on the cases before buying them. Go into a verizon store and start looking. I personally tried on a dozen cases in Verizon and another dozen in Walmart (they actually carry some decent cases). I ended up with the Otterbox commuter. I really really like it!

As I said in my previous post. All TPU is actually the same. What differs is the designs of the case. The thickness of a case or finish matte/glossy have nothing to do with the material.

FYI The current TPU used by case manufacturers is made in Korea.

Hmmm. That is like saying all bread is the same, made from flour, yeast and water.

This is partly semantics here. Mr. D was saying all the NGP is 'simply rubber' and like all TPU cases sold on ebay and elsewhere. So no difference. That is clearly not true, that was my objection.

Clearly some TPU cases are made, thinner, less stiff (less dense), matte or shiny gloss, fingerprint magnets or not, and then the general design.

We are substituting 'TPU' for the final product, and that is a mistake clearly. My wife's kiosk purchased case made from TPU is very thin, and slippery. The NGP is matte, shows no fingerprints, and much stiffer, thicker and maintains its shape. The NGP offers much more protection.

The material scientist chemist has some freedom to alter TPU for the final product...and it is the final product I am talking about. Not all breads are the same texture and density.

As from Wiki: TPU are formed by the reaction of: (1) diisocyanates with short-chain diols (so-called chain extenders) and (2) diisocyanates with long-chain bifunctional diols (known as polyols). The practically unlimited amount of possible combinations producible by varying the structure and/or molecular weight of the three reaction compounds allows for an enormous variety of different TPU. This allows urethane chemists to fine-tune the polymer’s structure to the desired final properties of the material.

So BTW, the SwitchEasy Vulcan looks nice, and since I'm a case nut, I ordered one. ;) Not sure about the gloss finish, but it will add to my other 6 or so cases nicely.

My other objection was that one needs to go to an OtterBox (implied Defender) for best protection. While it is great for the extreme cases, my friend got the Otterbox, and now he regrets the heavy thing hanging from his shirt front pocket. An NGP would have served him perfectly. He is switching over.

Anyhow, what did the OP actually do, beside stir up a hornets nest? Is OP Miss.Manson, the 'girl who kicked the hornet's nest' ???

Actually, they look the same. Speakeasy Vulcan looks nice.

You are way off topic man.

Anyhow, I never seen the Vulcan, but here is a macrumors thread on NGP vs SwitchEasy Vulcan with a poll. 50/50 % split.

One comment from the thread, post #2:

"SwithEasy Vulcan:

•Less protective
•Slimmer
•Glossy feel
•Shiny look
•See thru

Incipio NGP

•More protective
•Thicker
•Matte feel
•See thru
•Matte look

Winner IMO is NGP."

So not all TPU is the same. Otterbox is fine. Defender is overkill. Other otterbox's are fine, but IMHO, and that is all that was offered..they are ugly. period. Sorry. Don't be so sensitive. Impact series has only black; NGP has many colors, and many translucent to show the Apple logos. Reviews are not great on Otterbox impact series...graps inside of pocket...Don't like the way it covers the front.

For the price/protection ratio...NGP fits the bill. But it is for the OP to decide what he/she needs.

I really like how the Vulcan looks.

Good choice. You'll like it better than a thick Otterbox Defender.

I ordered a Vulcan too, to try it out.

I have lifeproof, but I honestly don't trust it. I gave it a quick run under the faucet and nothing happened but not completely convinced. When I did a water test condensation got in, I don't know if thats normal but from experience condensation killed my last iPhone lol.

I really like how the Vulcan looks.

I received my SwitchEasy Vulcan case. I also received my Magpul Executive Field Case, in black.

I'll compare my feelings between the Vulcan, Magpul, and the Incipio NGP.

Vulcan:

It is a nice case, thinner and with more flex than the other two.
High gloss. Shows fingerprints (I hate that). Looks like it will scratch easier .
Front lip overlaps front screen, like the NGP
Fit is not great. Bulges at the sides.
very thick interconnecting material between the 30 pin and the speaker/mic...probably will break.
30 pin and earphone plugs are nice...will use them with the other cases.
But in reality, I will take them off daily, so they will get lost, and not used. Unless I'm at the beach.
Price $19.95, only clear and black

NGP:
More protection, thicker material. thicker front lip.
Fits very well. Action on volume and on/off switch smoother than Vulcan.
Many colors.
Very solid. Sometimes my translucent mercury looks brownish grey. depends on the lighting.
$19.95

Magpul

Flexible, but outside section is more rigid. very good protection.
No fingerprints, great grip.
Very well fitted. Slim.
In order I'd say the Magpul and Vulcan are about the same slimness, with the Vulcan maybe a 1 mm less. But protection wise...the Magpul wins. NGP is thicker
1mm rise front to protect the front, but doesn't overlay the front screen , which i like.

Looks very good. Many colors.
$9.95, but looks, fits and feels better than $40 cases. Made in USA. I think I found my final case that offers great protection in a slim package that is attractive and preserves the iPhone 4 style.

Hands down the Magpul is the winner. None of the above has a flash problem.

Can also get a belt clip that works with the Magpul for $6.95 : http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=2&f=124&t=206693
