I did a short test on my current system and here are the results, I have been able to achieve only 3 hours with very light usage which consumed 45% of my battery

Here are the results:

1:08am - 2:41 am 17 percent drop from 100 -83 %
saw a 6 min youtube video
brightness at 65%
apps used safari and note

2:45= sleep

wake up from sleep at 10:56 am with battery at 83%

10:56am 83% - 11:31am 72% = 11 percent drop
apps used safari & mail
battery usage 16 watts as on coconut battery

11:31am 72%
SLEEP

Wake Up from sleep @ 12:01 pm with 72%

12:01pm 72% 12:31pm 64 % = 8 percent drop
apps used safari and note

12:35pm battery is 64%= SLEEP

WAKE
1:28PM battery is 63% 1:59PM 55% = 8% drain
Apps running safari, mail and iMessage
saw a 5min youtube video and played a 2 min song on iTunes

Conclusion:
2:08PM = 54 percent
User Time 3:15 hrs approx
Apps used: Mainly Safari & Note
Sites running in safari were macrumors, Facebook, apple support communities and 2-3 others
brightness was always at 65%
no flash installed

According to this ill barely get around 6:30 hrs with such light usage.
One thing i noticed every time i woke it up from sleep it started draining rapidly and upto 90 percent the drains was steady but then the lower it went the higher was the rate of drain

Does this seem fine to you? I can barely get 7hrs max with such light usage.
Im going to install a clean version of yosemite on a partiition and perform the same thing again

What do you think about this?
Oh and my battery usage according to coconut was always 12,13,14 watts sometimes 9watts and rarely 6,7 watts

POST UPDATE:
I have now used my computer for 5.5hrs and I'm left with only 23% battery
For the last one hr i played a video on quick time and the battery seemed to be fien
But as soon as i open safari the battery starts using 12,13 watts and drains rapdily with only one tab of macrumors open. After all these results according to my calculations i can maximum achieve 7hrs of battery after pushing it with such usage. Does this seem to be fine or is my battery faulty? 7 hrs is no where compared to the 9 hrs and the 10+ hrs that some users have got

Safari is to be the culprit because its killing my battery and no I don't have any extensions or flash installed

One more thing by 9hrs of life does apple mean 9hrs at a stretch or with breaks?

Try this: http://m.imore.com/how-resolve-battery-life-troubles-your-retina-macbook-pro

My new MacBook Pro retina battery seemed to not last long then I tried what was stated in the link and it went from 4 hours left to 11 hours left. Good luck!

I tried that, it didn't help

Here is how Apple tests the battery life. I really think you are fine. Any videos will chew up the battery, so that probably is hitting you a bit.

The wireless web test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing 25 popular websites with display brightness set to 12 clicks from bottom or 75%.

I know I have read that and as you had mentioned earlier I finally drained my battery to 0 % only achieving 7hrs of user time and for the past 2 hrs I played a movie on quick time and safari was closed during that the battery was discharging by 5-7 watts which seemed to fine but whenever I would open safari it would start using 14-15 watts that's where I lost most of my battery I think. And as I said I didn't even have 25 tabs open maximum 4 that also Facebook, macrumors, Apple support and Google. While reading other people's post where some have achieved 10+ hrs it makes me wonder. And one thing I noticed whenever safari wasn't open the computer was doing okay. It seems safari is the culprit but how is that possible Apple says 9 hrs with wireless Web. Here I achieve 7 hrs after struggling so much that to avoiding wireless searching. Do you think my battery is at fault or its a system glitch and I should do a clean install? And you're right videos will chew the battery but in my case I was better off playing videos in QuickTime rather than surfing in safari thats strange. I'm disappointed in a way because this was the first time I took my battery below 60 all the way 0 and I was expecting atleast 8hrs with my usage but after struggling and putting the brightness to 50 I ended with 7hrs until the Mac turned off.

Here in this review it says they achieved 8 hours with photoshop thats some heavy tasking and here when i use photoshop my battery takes a huge hit
