So... when are you going to run some Cinebench benchmarks and see if there truly isn't any thermal throttling... Ha.

Edit: Does anyone know if they match Apple EDU discount? I work at a university.

Picked one up at Best Buy today. Got the $2799 ($100 off right now). 2.3ghz 8-Core i9, 16Gb RAM, 4GB 5500m, 1TB SSD

WOW this is a huge step up!

The keyboard is a MASSIVE improvement from the butterfly switch version. I hated all the revisions of it, and I lived with the 2019 version. Also the speakers are insane. Like incredible. The 2019 15" was pretty good, but it rattled the case desk pretty bad. The insulation they put in the case really works well.

I think I am going to stick with this model for my Logic Pro X and Final Cut and save the money on the 32GB RAM Upgrade, 8GB GPU and Bestbuy will match the price for the next 45-days so it could be even cheaper.

Edit: one last thing. While it is heavier than the 15" this feels rock solid. No flex in it at all. Like a tank in a good way.

In the meantime if you have any questions let me know.

Congrats on the new laptop! How do the keys feel in comparison to the original scissor style keys from 2015? Reviewers have been saying it's a hybrid between those keys and the butterfly.

Pretty close. They are much more stable and finally comfortable and quiet! Again I HATED the butterfly keyboard, it would literally hurt my fingertips sometimes. This is the happy medium I think most people will like if not love.

You need to be a My BestBuy Rewards Member. Pretty sure it is free. Also these tend to go on big sales around the holidays, Bestbuy will match the in store price for 30 days (45 for my Best Buy Elite members).

Tempting to go get one... But I opted for the 32GB and 8GB 5500M on my model.

I can be patient for another week I think.

As long as you need it. Very easy to go heavy on the specs out of excitement. The baseline 512GB is the best value point if its within your requirments.

Thank you very much, great to hear. Enjoy it.

Looking forward to testing one out at Apple Fifth Avenue tomorrow a.m.

Can you run Intel Power Gadget and show a screenshot?
If you can run also some benchmark and Intel Power Gadget it would be appreciated... Just to see how they managed thermal in this machine.
Thanks

very cool, is 16GB enough?
And is there a drop off between the keys and the Touch Bar? or are they fairly level?

I think Apple has a 3rd stock config:
2.4Ghz 8-core i9
32GB memory
AMD 5500M 8GB
2TB SSD
$3899

Wouldn't it be trivial for these laptops to be able to load 4k video on YT without stutter?

Sorry, my mistake, I meant 8k videos. There is a thread having trouble playing this one of Peru at 8k:

You need chrome or I think firefox to run 8k, click the settings gear to ensure it's not playing it in 4k.
