I got the base 1TB.

Not being able to try out the keyboard first made me nervous, but it’s so much nicer..

I’m trying to play an 8k video on YouTube in full screen. It’s very choppy and the laptop is getting warm, but it says the temperature is around 40s.

Two 4k videos plays no problem. Same temperature. Fan speed around 1400 RPMs

Three 4k videos is choppy again, but still same fan and temp.
Wow. Staying at 40s while playing 8k video is not bad at all. Thanks for sharing.

If you have any experience with the 2018 / 2019 (15”) models, how does the temp compare? My 2019 15” gets so hot that the bottom becomes uncomfortable to touch. Once it reaches those temps, the laptop becomes noticeably slower...

Really hoping those new fans and the larger heat sync are as good as apple says

My work computer is a 2018, but I only really use it to remote into my main machine so I never had temperature issues.

But now I’m realizing the app I got to measure temperature and fan speed isn’t accurate... sorry

Sorry, this app doesn’t seem to be accurate.. it’s cooled off now and I’m getting similar numbers.

Yep! Got 1 of only 3 in all of the Des Moines area today. Seems like each store got 1 in a special delivery this morning/today.

Upgrading from 13” Mid 2010 Pro and omg this thing is incredible...the speakers blow me away and I actually really like the touchbar to scroll through YouTube videos and songs.

(Also the $100 off was nice with My Best Buy or whatever which others I think have mentioned is free)

As long as you need it. Very easy to go heavy on the specs out of excitement. The baseline 512GB is the best value point if its within your requirments.
The problem I have with 512gb (which is what I have right now) is that the OS size seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I don't have concrete proof but from the size of the frequent updates and all the feature-bloat in the OS makes me think 1tb is the min to survive the next 5 years.

I think Apple realizes it too. In the Pro lineup, I sincerely believe that "512GB is the new 256GB". Trust me, Apple isn't giving away anything for free here.

After a half day of use, I am very happy with the purchase. And this is coming from a 5-month old 2019 15" MBP. The keyboard is finally good. Pushed it hard with some Final Cut X H264 exporting while watching some streaming video. Fans kick up pretty good but the bottom of the case is much cooler than even the 2019. You can feel on the sides there is a lot more airflow too.

I agree...

I've been veery critical of the MacBook Pro for a while now. I love macOS but man their past offerings were meh...

I got the 16" this morning and so far, very happy with it... KB alone is night and day better.

Meh there’s almost 470 of the 500 available and as a casual user of a 256GB mid 2010 I still have 70 GB left on that thing. About 100GB of that is music. After I migrate my backup over to this new one I’ll have over 200GB available which I’ll probably never use.

I most likely would have filled up a 256GB one though so moving up the base model to 512 was pretty huge for me.

Thank you!!! That’s exactly what I wanted to hear. Heat has been a major problem for my 2019 15”.

I want to see these in stores, I always liked the form factor of the 13-inch and dont think I can give up my iMac unless Apple releases a prosumer display like they had before. If Apple released a standalone display similar to the iMac and not the $5k they have now, I'd heavily consider converting my set-up to a 16-inch MBP + Display.

I suppose the LG Ultrafines could suffice, but I hate dealing with 3rd party display manufactures.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple does embed a 64gb-128gb ssd just for OS/firmware, etc on its on SSD and the 512, 1TB, etc will host user data. (think fusion drive, or how they combine the individual SSDs in the iMac pro and Mac Pro).

Just grabbed my baseline 16. Once again they beat Apple to the draw.

Keyboard is awesome, screen is incredible.

Good news!

The biggest issue I have with my MBP 13" is the keyboard. There's very little tactile differentiation between the keys, especially the arrow keys at the bottom right. It's driving me batty! I don't mind the soft touch but I keep hitting multiple or wrong keys. That never happened on my MBA 11". The only reason I'm still using this MBP 13" is the screen, but that's barely reason enough.

Anyone get the base model? I did really like it, however, the only thing I notice is the colors seem a bit different, not bad just maybe a little less bright than the 2019 15"? or is this because its the baseline? anyone else seeing similar? Love the keyboard! Size is about same as the 15", not a big difference, thinner vessels are nice! speakers unreal!

I grabbed a base model from BB this morning as well. They priced matched the normal discount I get from Apple but needed a Manager override. $2159 out the door, no sales tax..

Still setting it up but yes the KB is night and day better.... Also happy about the esc key making a comeback..

Happy camper right now...
What discount do you normally get from Apple ? Student ?

Pretty close. They are much more stable and finally comfortable and quiet! Again I HATED the butterfly keyboard, it would literally hurt my fingertips sometimes. This is the happy medium I think most people will like if not love.
I hated 2015 keyboard and love butterfly. I will miss it.

The joint I retired from has several places they offer discounts through.. For BB I generally just get a manager and have them look at the price I can get it for by ordering through their system. Sometimes BB will match and others times not...

Apple always does as does Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo and a few other places...

They did this price match kind of goofy as I guess they already had it $100 off for BB Members.. Either way It was $2154 out the door. Can't complain..

You might like this one as I'd call it in-beween the 2.. To me the 2015 was a little mushy and the 2016 on where very shallow. I think (from memory) this KB is about in-between the 2, travel wise..

Have none of ye heard of geekbench or cinebench? Come folks download those run them and upload us some screen shot results please !! 😝

Anyone tried it with an external monitor yet? I am interested to know if the discrete graphics still kicks in for external monitors and whether that causes fans to spin up?

It was more of a YouTube issue, where it used a codec that Safari doesn’t support

It's a Apple issue, boot into windows on the same machine and it will run buttery smooth. It's Apple's refusal to enable hardware decoding available on the CPU.

Great price. I miss living in Portland. No sales tax was awesome.

Would have been easier to explain to my wife than the $3400 price tag I gave her.

Days like today make me wish I was more irresponsible. My 13" 2015 rMBP works just fine and has all the original ports plus magsafe and SD card slot. But, I REALLY want that screen.

I'm sure battery life isn't so great...
