So I just go into any USPS store and ask them for the coupon? Haha never heard if this before.

Ask for the mover booklet. Inside of it will be coupons from different stores and one will be the bestbuy 10%

13% here. Be happy with 9 :)

Ouch. And I thought our 9.25 in-store/7.25 Apple mail order was slightly steep.

You Americans have no idea how lucky you are, that is some ridiculously cheap prices for high end electronics. When it comes to Europe all they do is switch the $ for a £ or € sign and call it a day .

Hmmm, it all gets sucked up some other way here, usually involving student loan repayments. Not even the income get-out-of-jail clause that England, Wales and NI have if you're not earning enough after graduation. Certainly not the free tuition that everyone else in Europe has.

Any tips on getting Best Buy to stack the 10% coupon with the student discount?

Based upon their exclusion language for the mover's coupon, there's nothing that indicates Apple computers are excluded. However, I haven't seen the text on the student discount (or the physical mover's coupon) to see if there's something that indicates only one coupon may be used at a time. Like any most other coupon, I imagine the store has final discretion one what they choose to honor. Here's the "fine print" for the mover's coupon: www.bestbuy.com/moverscoupon

Apple directly gives between $200 and $300 off if you order from them

The same rMBP through the Apple educational store is $1399. I believe one gets a better discount through iTunesConnect (as a content vendor), but that link isn't working for me to see what the discount is (and hasn't been working for a couple weeks now--and the trouble ticket seems to have fallen into purgatory).

I've been considering getting a new MBP for a while now and may pull the trigger on this deal if I can get them to stack the 10% off coupon. Sure, an update may be around the corner, but I think this would be a nice upgrade over a 2009 13" MBP and a 2010" 11" MBA (though certainly less portable than the latter).

These coupon deals absolutely work, but it depends on the store.

During memorial day weekend, Best Buy was selling the 13.3" rMBP (8GB/256GB) for $1424.99 ($75 discount). (EDIT: Oh, they are still selling it for $1424.99, nice!)

I used both the $150 student discount and the USPS movers coupon:

$1424.99 - $150 = $1274.99
$1274.99 - 10% = $1147.49

Plus they had a deal where if you use your Best Buy credit card you receive 10% back in rewards making the "effective" cost only $1033 before tax. Pretty good I think! It also makes it considerably cheaper than even a 13.3 MBA upgraded to 8GB / 256GB!

Also, both the $150 student discount and the 10% USPS movers coupon both scanned into the store register without any manager overrides or anything and the employee didn't ask any questions. The $150 student discount does specify in the fine print that it can't be combined with any other offers so YMMV.

Thanks for the info. Does the 10% come back in best buy GC or cashback? How much did you receive?

Thanks

Yeah, it comes back through "My Best Buy" Reward Zone points which you redeem for a gift certificate.

I earned 5736 points, and 250 points = $5 so I will receive 22 * $5 = $114 (which makes sense because it's 10% of the $1147 price I paid).

They hold the points for about 15 days after your purchase in case you return it, so I'm still waiting for my points but they do show correctly in My Best Buy.

I'm not sure if they are still offering 10% rewards because that was a memorial day promotion. You should still get 5% or 6% rewards though if you use the Best Buy credit card.

I see. Thank you very much. That's a bummer that the 10% isn't active anymore though. So the gift card is virtual then or do you pick a physical one up from the store?

Also, does anyone know when the current promotion, or $75 off ends? Im away on vacation right now and hope it's still active when I come back.

It's not really a gift card, but a printable gift certificate.

First you need to signup for My Best Buy which is free, and then when you make any purchases you show them your card and you build points. You can then go to the My Best Buy website and redeem the points for a printable gift certificate.

You don't get anything from the store... it's all handled online. If you make any purchases online you can enter your My Best Buy member ID so you can also earn points that way.

The reason for that is that the standard retail prices are before tax because tax rates vary pretty wildly from county to county (even the name varies). If you remove the tax you generally get pretty close to the U.S prices, except maybe for Australia where pretty much every company screws over customers pretty badly.

There's still no doubt over in the states you still pay less even after tax.

But you have to put up with very poor and overpriced internet so I guess it evens itself out :p

Thank you so much for the information. My post office was out of the movers coupon but I used the student $150 coupon, you just need an edu email, and with the $75 off I scored a rMBP for $1274 plus tax. Sweet!

I was able to use the movers coupon with the student coupon and ended up getting a MBA, Beats headphones, a life proof case, and a mophie battery for less than the cost of the macbook air alone.

Thanks a lot for the info! I just grabbed a base 15" rMBP for $1575 ($1705 tax included) + 10% reward certificate doing all this.

As of yesterday, the 10% Reward Back with BB Credit Card deal still works (expiration date is Mid-June).

I have been on the fence of getting the rMBP for a while now and was planning to wait until next year for Broadwell but this deal is way too good to pass up!

I thought that the 10% expired? It says online there's 6% cash back.

By the way, is the BB credit card a visa? In other words does it extend the warranty of the Mac by 1 year?

Edit: i see that the card is a mastercard, would someone mind confirming if the card has the benefit of extending the original MFR warranty by one year?

Be happy with 13%! Sure, we have a good healthcare system, but 20% really is a lot to stomach, plus exchange rates and international 'Apple tax' when buying Macs.

Say you took a high end 15" rMBP - $2600 (granted, w/out sales tax). A lot, but maybe understandable given it's power and display etc etc. Would you pay $3700 for it? That's the price in the UK!

If there were no import duties, it's literally cheaper to fly to New York and buy it than order it in the UK.

To top it all off, the UK isn't even the worst. Try Brazil and other such countries and see how much they pay...

There was an ad in front of the register in the store for the 10% reward at my local BB. You just have to make sure the sale associate scan the barcode on that ad too.

I am not sure about the warranty with MasterCard. But they do have two types of credit cards (in-store only card & MasterCard) and I think it depends on your credit which card you are approved for.

Wisconsin, Maine, and Virginia has about a 5% tax rate. Oregon has none!

Usually I order my stuff to Oregon, and then I have someone from my dad's work to bring it to Israel. It's awesome there is no tax!

BTW, here in Israel we have 18% tax, not including import charges that can get up to 100% or even more on cars for example. For cell phones you pay 32% import charges, so he happy with 13% ;)

I bought a 13" 8gb/256 for $1160 after taxes. I'm debating on returning it and picking up a local used early 2013 15" (ME664LL) 8gb/256 with 1gb nVidia for about $200 more. Still not sure yet. I'd obviously prefer the power (video/photo editing) and the size of the 15" screen. I connect to an external monitor but not 100% of the time.
