I haven't had my audio pause every few minutes, so I don't know if its the same issue.

I use Aux in my car (the only wired "headphones" that I typically use), and it works fine when plugged in. I tested a set of standard EarPods and it works, but only alarms/timers will play out loud when I unplug them.

"Headphones" appear in Control Center/Airplay menu no matter what. Most of my audio output is Bluetooth or AirPlay, unless I'm in my car, so I didn't even notice. Turned off "Hey, Siri", rebooted, hard-rebooted. Short of restoring my phone, just want to see if anyone else has this issue and any suggesting on how to fix. I don't play music on my iPhone's Speakers, but it seems like it is system-wide, affecting every app/game (which sometimes I have the volume on/up for).

Plug in a pair of headphones, and then unplug them.

Did you even read my post?

ETA: This problem affects phone calls too. Received a call earlier and I had to use 'Speaker' for us to hear each other. It seems that the Mic is disabled and is trying to use the one on my 'phantom headphones' that are still showing up as plugged in.

Did you try what the other poster suggested? It's possible, however unlikely you may think it is, that the switch/sensor inside your headphone jack happens to be stuck.

For the record, my iPhone 6+ works just fine. if I plug headphones in, it switches to "Headphones". As soon as I unplug them, it switches to 'iPhone"

Make sure there isn't a lint build up or something else inside the jack. Then reboot the device.

My iPhone shows "iPhone" when nothing is plugged in and "headphones" when headphones or AUX are plugged into the jack.

Checked. Clean it. Its a 6s+ with no marks or lint. Its not like this is my first iPhone (or first beta). ;)

Still a problem. Rebooted a few times, closed all apps, tried making phone calls. Other things work, it seems - dictation is fine, for example. Voicemail played through the earpiece. Hey Siri actually worked (though it would always "fail" and close the first time I prompt her). I'm just stumped... Only started today
