BETA forum proposition.

Create a beta sub forum?

With all the talk on ios5 or any other beta stuff that is out there I find the iPhone forum rather useless and any discussion on current product gets buried.

I propose we vote to add a beta forum and any talk of beta firmwares gets moved there. Could either be under each iPhone, iPod, iPad forum etc or just a beta discussion area by itself.
 
I think this is a great idea. I usually have a focus when I come into the forum and for now, that focus is discussion of the beta. I don't notice the non-beta subject threads except for the space they're taking up.
 
The problem is that betas are short-lived. Once the OS is released, the discussions and subforum will lack participation.

Naturally, because the beta is then the release.

Thing is even during betas people have real questions on the current release stuff. That is buried now.
 
I like the idea so that we can talk about the beta's without people saying "Duh it's buggy, it's a beta!"
 
I think we need forums based on the iOS instead of by hardware ... iOS 4 iPhone and iTouch are more similar than iOS 3 iPhone and iTouch, IMO.
 
If we were to add a separate sub forum do you think we would need to add 3?

i.e.

iOS Beta - iPhone
iOS Beta - iPod Touch
iOS Beta - iPad

or just one big iOS Beta
 
I don't think that we should. We should lock all threads regarding troubleshooting beta software. These issues are for Apple's developer forums. By having a beta subforum, you are condoning piracy, because people that ask beta questions here have obviously pirated the software.
 
MODS: Can we move all the BETA threads (from non-devs)

I wish we could move the thousands of threads from non-devs freaking over their Beta OSs to another subforum. Maybe Hacks?

Sounds like a plan (I'm more on the Wasteland bit). Beta is as all beta's are; puddles of fun.

Seriously the amount of toadies that chomp at the bit then wonder why xyz app is broken or whatever on beta firmware is staggering. Could you imagine if the auto companies allowed folks to update their cars firmware!
 
It's hard to know is someone really a dev or not. It would take enormous amount of work if we had to PM the OP every time there is a thread about iOS Beta and ask for proof that he is a dev. I think iOS Beta forum is in the works (thread) but I can't comment on its progress, but I do agree that the beta discussion should be separated (just my personal opinion though).

Agreed,

Just opening a Beta sub-forum will be a lot of additional moderation as it stands. I would love to have beta discussions limited to Devs only, but it would be impossible to police, and create much more overhead than it would be worth.

The nice thing about this community, is it is somewhat self governing. When looking at the Programming forum, Developers have been good at weeding out (by polite responses, or none at all) true developers from those just there getting into trouble. I am hoping that an iOS developer section would have a similar feel to it.
 
MODS, can we please have an iOS5 Beta sub-forum?

Can we please have a sub-forum for all the I'm not a developer, I didn't listen to Apple's advice, I am running iOS 5 Beta on my every day phone and it screwed something up or something isn't working right posts? Either that or can such posts just be deleted from here seeing how the iOS 5 betas are still under an NDA?
 
Ah, NDA, I didn't even think about that angle. Real devs commenting on ios 5 are breaking NDA and shouldnt be posting here and non devs with it are pirating the software.
