I selected the label settings page and 'all mail' was all ready selected to 'show'. Maybe there is something else afoot. Thanks for the help though.

You need to go to GMail settings then the Labs tab and enable IMAP advanced controls.... then go back to labels and a new setting will be there allowing you to show/hide each label in IMAP. Hide ALL Mail label and you will no longer see in in Mail app in OS X.

If anyone's interested I've written up a Google, Mac, and iPhone setup guide for the way I like to do it.
Thanks but there are several computers that I've used that just WILL NOT kill the captcha for Gmail, which leads to frequent outages of Mail.app that are hurting the people who use it as it invariably leads to my taking the time to figure out why, exactly, in this case, Mail.app STILL REFUSES TO USE THE CORRECT PASSWORD ^#$^&

Sorry.

So as I was saying, do you have any fix that will kill the captcha dead, forever?? Even the gmail help forums are filled with the WRONG LINKS to kill the captcha.

I'm sorry if I seem obnoxious, but I find it $%#&-ing incredible that Mac and Google have such a widespread and total failure to work together to DELIVER AND SEND EMAIL. I don't care what their stock prices are, this speaks to something deeply messed up within one or both companies's philosophy.

I can only remember having to deal with the Captcha once. I don't know why it nags some folks.

I still use the Mac Mail app but, like "skitrip" mentioned above, lately I've been using a separate web browser (Opera for me) to view two Google Apps accounts in tabs. The mail is up-to-the-minute for when you need immediate access.

I've been resorting to that lately.

FYI you can now upgrade your Apps accounts to have the same kind of functionality as the @gmail.com ones (finally). This includes multiple sign-ins for the same browser, which actually works really well for the gmail app but if you're using a lot of other Apps (kept on different Gmail accounts, paid or otherwise), you can still be better off with more than one browser.

I am not certain I'm getting all of my mail. I have two accounts on the mail app- gmail and hotmail. I just went to hotmail and there were over 600 messages there- am I not getting them all, or is it that I still have to go right to hotmail and delete them?

If I decide to quit using the mail app, how do I undo it?

+1 for either Gmail.com (via Chrome) or Mailplane. I always miss features (despite the prettiness) when using apps such as Mail or Sparrow.
