Fix For Business Acct Or Discount Account Issue

I posted earlier... 2 phones... 1 was business the other was a discount (foundation) account which is treated as business.

I called the number below many times. It would not go through for hours, but eventually it did. They were quite good even by my techie standards.

The number is: 866-907-3484... they close at 4am EST... I was on hold for more than an hour before getting through. Thanks to the poster who tipped me off to the number.

In 15 minutes, for the biz account, they did the following which is required:

1) set up a consumer account;
2) ported my biz account number to the consumer account;
3) sat there while I used the new consumer account (with my same old biz account phone number) to get through the registration process.

For the foundation/discount account, they tweaked that until it work too.

It was painful getting to this point and ATT blamed Apple (I don't buy it), but it was a good save all in all.

Good luck everybody.

Did you have to pay any fees to cancel your business account? I tried to do that on the phone, but she wanted me to create a new line with a new number and pay 175 to cancel my old number.

Did they run your credit again?

They told me the same thing!... but also told me that I'd have to wait until monday!... talk about the lack of training that these AT&T reps have gotten! WTF!

Im on a small 4 person business account plan with no added benifts, simply a plan that is exactly the same as a family plan but it is billed through my dads business so he can claim it as an expense. Our plan is considered a "small business" account with ATT.

I bought an iphone today after having been told it would work with our account and now I am totally screwed and have been working for 7 hours on trying to get it activated!

Has anyone figured out what to do about this yet??

Looks like I am in this boat now (now on hold).

Of course that number is now closed.

They did say this in the activation, but it didn't say it was a problem or would take 6+ hours.

BZ

I get a corporate discount and it activated just fine. Ofcourse say goodbye to the discount with the scam ATT is running with the iphone. Blaaahhhh.

I'm sorry but this cant go unnoted...HE KNEW he had to change it... just that the at&t system didnt register it ...FTA

"Earlier this week I transferred my Macworld business account to an individual account solely for the purpose of getting an iPhone—I had to since business plans don’t qualify for the iPhone. I know for a fact that I’m not the only person who had to do this—and judging from the wait time I’m having on tech support, I’m not the only one having problems."

also FTA

"I decided to call AT&T back again. The person I got said that my account was still listed as a business account—well, that can’t be, I changed it."

so as u can clearly see from the article he was AWARE of the conditions beforehand and made the change to his account to make it an ''individual'' account just that some dumb rep at at&t either didnt complete his requested change, or the billing system has not began to reflect it as of yet...thats a totally different case then what people are having...most ppl are stating they didnt know they had to change it...see the difference here?

Dude, you still don't get it... NO ONE HAD DENIED that this information wasn't there... it was just really hard to find... almost hidden... you may have been in this same boat if you had a business account too...

This is the editor of MacWorld I was refering to in that link. It's his job to scrutinize every little detail regarding Apple...

there really isn't anything more to debate about considering I think your whole point of your postings at this point is just to argue...

nothing... I've ranted for hours over this to let off steam.. there are many many like us in this boat... it'll be worked out for us... but unfortunately we have to wait till Monday, according to the AT&T rep that I spoke to...

PIMP... the reason why skinnylegs is getting pissed at you (and probably many many others) (if you can't figure it out by now)... is because your comments are implying that "hey anyone who has a business acount and bought an iPhone is a big idiot!"... and bro, that is not the case! serously!... I guess you are also implying that the other 100,000 people out there that thought the same thing by being mis-informed are idiots too!... okay, fine... you get your gold star... happy now?

I'm one of the "others" and no idiot. I called ATT - business customers - twice! They said "no problem...when you get to the place where you enter social, just call us and we'll get it through for you." Now it's a big problem. My husband doesn't want his account changed, I'm not splitting off...phone is going back and I'm out 10% and $100 that I just spent on a case and I'm sad.
...and I waited 6 months with a blank check in hand (present) for the phone and over four hours in line and now....just sad - too sad to sleep, probably...

finally!! (sort of)

after an hour and some change, I finally got through to a business rep and in less than five minutes,my Isex was activated! Be patient folks. The ATT reps were nice and helped me best they could. This phone was SO worth it all!

1 hour hold

they answer the phone, "thank you for calling att business care iphone activation, how can i help you"

got me working

now activating my phone

it works!!!

spoke too soon and jinxed myself...got the message saying activation required additional time to complete

after EXACTLY 2 hours on hold, someone picked up and said exactly what i wanted to hear: "AT&T Business Activation Care"!!!

he sees that the data plan wasn't added properly because i had something called "International Data Roaming" on my account on one line. that held up both lines. i now have 1 active iPhone!!! it is not my line however... mine has been escalated to a high priority IT ticket, because no matter what they tried, they COULD NOT REMOVE THIS FEATURE FROM MY PHONE, and with this feature provisioned on my account, the iPhone data plan could not be added!!!!!

if anyone cannot get through, keep calling tomorrow, as they are getting a lot more working but they just need to talk to you to see if you have an unusual circumstance, like mine. he said there were a lot of issues they expected but didn't have, and a few that they never expected that they have had! so, i'm 1 for 2 so far, and at least i have a single iPhone to play with tonite. YouTube kicks ass on WiFi!

Here we go again....

I got about 7 hours sleep last night so I'm rested and ready to put my boxing gloves on again. I'm on hold at the moment and hoping that I will be able to get this thing activated today. BTW.....I'm one of those who have a business account.

You know what pisses me off the most? Despite my anger and frustration I still want this 'freakin phone to work because when I *do* get it activated (and I will) it will be worth it.

My daughter and I waited in line yesterday for 10 hours at the Fashion Valley Apple Store in San Diego. We had a blast and would do it all over again just to be part of the experience.

She ported over her Verizon # over and set up a new at&t account in less than 2 minutes. Go figure. Anyway, I have fooled around with her iPhone when she wasn't using it and I can say that the iPhone is incredible......simply incredible.

Got mine activated! (you may have already as well!)... despite what the AT&T rep told me yesterday that I would have to wait until Monday! WRONG! ...anyway... had to set up a new account with a new account number but they ported over my number at no charge (and also despite saying that it would be another charge for switching from business to personal... which also wasn't true :) ...anyway it's on and it rocks! awesome!

ahh my first reply here...

Ok...

So before all the release of the phone we were made aware that business/corporate accounts were not eligible for the iPhone, well, the nearest AT&T/Cingular store is literally a 3 minute walk from work, plus we have several accounts with them (several is a understatement, most of our employee's have personal accounts with them, yes I said personal account) we take a stroll over to the store and have a talk with the manager a few days before the release of the iPhone, upon which we were told that IRU accounts were eligible and that we could not be under a SLB/CRU...

Well, then the question came, what type of account did we have... as the manager checked we had a IRU, we had business discounts though, but we were not considered a SLB or CRU... The manager of the store said we were "in the green" to get an iPhone when they came out.

Three days later...

Three of us our sitting here with our $600 iBrick... because apparently even though we are not under a SLB/CRU and our account is an IRU, we still cannot activate our iPhone....

Interesting.... so, AT&T Store Manager gave us the green light, then iPhone comes out... and green light turns into brick wall...

Turns out that AT&T nor Apple really make it completely clear, otherwise why are some IRU accounts not able to activate, plus why are store managers telling you that we can activate and checking the account making sure we can, then day of release we can't?

We are trying to call the 907 number now to see what the result might be, but all in all this is a disappointing experience on both AT&T/Cingular's side (of which I have had an account with for 4 years now) and Apple side...

photomaniac congrats!

I've been on hold now over 90 mins.
Hoping for some resolution.

Yeah....I'm up and running as well and I can say it was definitely worth the wait. I'm syncing my iPhone right now! BTW....the phone rep simply changed my account so that I could activate it. I didn't have to create a new number.

OK, another business account holder up and running!

I spent about 120 minutes total on the phone this morning, moving my four lines to personal liability. The AT&T CSR was very knowledgeable and thorough. In about 15 total minutes from finally getting through my iPhone was activated.

It is perfect - there is hope and NO need to wait until Monday.

business account question

To all of you "business account" conversion experts...I have a small business account with 5 lines...The main line is like $60/month and then the additional lines are listed as $9.99 each. If I want to convert one of the additional lines to a personal line so I can activate an iPhone, will the converted line then change to one of the new iPhone plans, or can I keep the same pricing and just add the data plan? If I have to change my account over to personal and then increase the price/month beyond the data plan price I guess I'll have to wait...anyone experienced this yet?

I have 5 phones on my account and I pay $40 additional per month for unlimited text and internet.
