These placements are getting a bit old. I'd love to see how many of these celebs are wearing their free gift in a week from now.

Nah, the fact there's now two in the wild means that Apple will eventually offer this band to everyone. The reason they haven't yet is likely because it takes 9 hours to make each band, and Apple's manufacturing plant has likely been running overtime, just to provide the stainless and black bands in volume. The metal link was the third most popular band after the Milanese loop and sport band.

We'll see this and a gold Milanese available by Christmas, along with other case materials as rumored. We'll likely see a Platinum Edition, as well as a $1-2K gold watch for the mid-tier model, maybe 14K or Vermeil. I'm also betting on an anodized gold Sport watch to match all those gold iPhones.

I suppose it's possible. Obviously Apple is testing it out. I think Karl Lagerfeld got one because Marc Newson's wife works for him. Beyoncé? Is there some connection to Jimmy Iovine? Maybe Iovine is the one pushing to get these in the hands of celebrities. It certainly worked for Beats.

Apple is trying to market the Watch as a fashion item and not just tech (hence the costs reflect the watch fashion market). And so, they need to get into the fashion market for it. This is just one of the ways they hope to do that.

just because you slap a ridiculous price on an item, it doesn't make it "fashion market"

just like when I break a branch from a tree, doesn't make it hand-made wand.

Also aside from Christy Burns none of this is really official Apple marketing. Heck Anna Wintour was wearing an Apple Watch on April 16 and the first I heard about it was this morning. Most of the celebrity Watch sightings have come from Instagram or Twitter. This isn't in your face marketing from Apple.

If they're getting them pre-released directly from Apple, this is some type of official Apple marketing.

Um, yes? So? I don't understand what you're getting at. Apple's efforts with fashion magazines, stores, and where they priced their product points at an intent to enter the fashion market. Doesn't mean it WILL be fashionable, but rather that's where they're trying to get into.

Lagerfeld got one because he's the most famous and powerful high fashion designer in the world.

What's up with all the hate? Sounds like a bunch of pathetic jealous people... go get a life ;)

I would call it un-official. I doubt Jony Ive handed Sam Smith a watch and whispered in his ear "make sure you post this on Instagram". Yet Apple knows these things will eventually find their way on the internet/social media.

I'd wager to guess that many (not all) of these appearances are paid product placements.

Let's put it this way... if you were a celebrity, would you promote a product for a company without some sort of compensation? And I don't mean compensation in the form of a gold watch.

Lol, I hope the Beehive don't get ahold of this Beyonce bashing...they will tear this forum apart, lol.

It's more likely Tim would be whispering in Sam's ear.

It's no surprise to see special Gold Apple Watches & Bands given out to various high profile types. Nor are these rare. Limited, perhaps initially, but Apple is very experienced with marketing. I'm certain they made a minimum number of specials to give out to be seen.

It's just part of Apple's well calculated plan to stimulate interest. Apple is particularly skilled in the art of influence. They're simply doing what they do to insure the best start for Apple Watch. With Apple's deep pockets they have more power than any other corporation to get all the exposure they could possibly want.

Is a celebrity or my reasons for wanting the Apple watch any different? Smart watches offer some really cool technology. If I could afford $XXX watches, I am pretty sure I would still want an Apple watch, even just as an addition to my collection.

It wouldn't surprise me if Apple ultimately sells a custom-made Edition ("bespoke" for those of you in the UK) available by special order only. It's quite common for luxury goods.
