LOL @ a bunch of purportedly adult men trashing Beyonce's artistry because they're mad at her exclusivity deal. I'm no fan but to read the comments on this thread is embarrassing.

Although there is no question about Beyoncé's her singing capabilities I do think Beyoncé is highly overated. Much of her succes Is based upon studio engineers and advertisement and the amount of wealth she and her husband has gained throughout the years and the way they spend it on luxurious houses and possessions makes Beyoncé taste for political awareness and statement a bit humoristic in my humble opinion.

Beyoncyé is a product to start with, her artistic values has to be shared among so many producers, marketeers and people with knowledge about the entertainment industry that I can't state that Beyoncé is a true artist from my perspective. In this context Beyoncé isn't even close being an artist compared to people like Prince, Jim Morrison, Miles Davis, Freddy Mercury, Mick Jagger, etc.

This whole parade about "exclusivly" putting her album on Tidal first is nothing more then an attempt to gain media attention. Before she might loose money because of it she launches her album on iTunes with much more listeners. If Beyoncé's ambition was truly about making a statement she could have said, as an examaple. I stick with Tidal because of <any given reason>. Thise whole charade is nothing more then a publicity stunt to gain media attention with the aim of creating a social media buzz and money as a consequence. Nothing more, nothing less and, quite important for Beyoncé, mission accomplished I may add.
Beyoncé can sing but she doesn't have the greatest voice. There are better singers, have been better dancers/entertainers and her music is not memorable or innovative. She's over rated in every dimension imo.

Side note: if you don't care about the film or digital booklet, it's cheaper to buy the 12 songs individually...

  • 12 songs x $1.29/song = $15.48
  • Full album = $17.99 (but it's the only way to get the film + digital booklet since they are album only)
  • So you can save $2.51... which isn't much but i hate having music videos attached to the end of albums since the Music.app will auto play those as part of the album on iOS (and iTunes if you dont un-check it).

You don't. But it's required if you want to call yourself an artist.

That sounds definitive. Who determined that requirement? Your statement implies that a single instrument virtuoso, or a composer who is not a virtuoso at all, is not an artist. That's not intuitive, so please supporting details.

I'm sorry, this isn't iTunes rumors.com? Seriously....there are 1,000s of other artist and at least 10 that are as famous and have as much of a following as Beyoncé....how is this worthy of front page on this website?

This is a Mac Rumour?

All credit to the woman for all she has achieved but is she thinner, lighter or equipped with an OLED screen?

I imagine it's being posted because Beyonce's prior album was an iTunes exclusive in 2013. It got a ton of publicity from iTunes. MacRumors covered it then. This is relevant in the sense that Apple lost her as an exclusive launch partner.

Apple more recently gave Beyonce a gold apple watch + gold (non-purchasable) link band.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/beyoncé-with-all-gold-edition.1869820/

Not that bribes like this watch are purely to secure future exlusive releases, as I'm sure they wanted her to promote the watch as fashion, but it shows she has worked closely with Apple.

Milk milk Lemonade, round the corner chocolates made.

She clearly didn't consult Amy Schumer about the album title... Or maybe she did.

For those who don't get the reference:

This article was written by someone who sucks Tidal's banana all day long. I'm not joking.

Lots of companies have been bought for gazillions. Doesn't mean jack.

You don't really believe that they believe piracy is going anywhere do you? Everything is already pirated.

too late. Already being pirated

really? who would listen to that pile of rubbish no talent hack of a so call musician....

Rumors within the music industry suggest Apple's never met with Beyoncé, refusing to meet her terms the watch was delivered to her with a fat check so she'd wear it once for the pictures. Even Apple can't win em all.

Millions of people actually...

Nope, although I never listen to Beyoncé because I find her music to simplistic but I wouldn't state that her music is crap. And yes, taste is very subjective, you can't realy discuss it, you like it or you simply don't. What you can discuss however is to which degree Beyoncé is authentic in what she's producing. Her producers in the studio are skillfull musicians. I don't have any doubts there but how about Beyoncé? Can Beyoncé actually play an instrument? To what degree does she actually participate in creating her own music next to come up with an idea when drinking a cocktail in one of her many whirlpools? I see Beyoncé more as a very talentent entertainer, a woman who knows exactly how to perform but for "me" those skills are not essential for being a musician.

You can dislike artist like Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger and many more but what they have in common is that they actually understand what music is all about, and looking at the history of these, among many others, artist one can state that they created their own typical sound and music with help from producers but with a degree of authenticity that comes from these people themselves. Especially when looking at Prince whom spend days and days in his studio to play various instruments.

In short, hundred years fron now many will remember The Doors, Prince and many other great artist and Beyoncé will be nothing more then a footnote on Wikipedia, loved by a young generation that is no more...

Beyonce's voice is her instrument. She can do things with it, that most of us can't even dream about or begin to understand. I never got this whole "you have to know how to play a physical instrument to be considered a real musician" mindset.

Whitney Houston is widely considered one of, if not the greatest vocalist of all time. IMO she's the greatest to ever step up to a mic. She didn't really do the instrument thing, although she did play the piano. Her voice was her instrument tho. She could do things with her voice that were thought to be impossible. She understood music, lyric, and the psychology behind music and how to capture an audience. She understood the concept of musicanship better than a lot of people who did play instruments. She could literally sing the alphabet, but would put in the right phrasing and/or emotion to make the average listener feel something. Beyonce has that same gift IMO. Will I put her on the same level as Whitney? Tbh, no. Whitney was on an entirely different level. But Beyonce has performed with just her voice, no background instruments or singer, and produced some of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard.

A lot of things a good singer does with their voice...is done with a physical instrument. I've been playing the clarinet for well over 10yrs. I actually modeled my playing after Whitney's singing. I studied the way she sang and still do to this day.

As for saying Beyonce will be a footnote, I think that's a bit harsh. I think she'll go down as one of the most successful music acts in history. Multiple Grammys, millions of albums sold, ect. She's certainly on that road right now

Mad about her deal? I couldn't care less about whatever deal she might have. I also don't see what her "deal" has to do with the subject what some are discussing here...

Whitney Huston was a great vocalist. Beyoncé is not. There is no comparison.
