Beyond iPhone 13: Long-Term iPhone Rumors

Flatten the rear camera bump crap, and I’m in. That’s all they’re missing now. I still clutch my SE 2016 for that reason. I don’t use a case, don’t want a case.

5 years later and my SE 2016 has had zero parts fail or replaced. Screen intact, albeit the obvious “usage love” given to the sides and back. Little to no abrasions on the front. I just treat it well. Best device design ever made. I could use a fresh battery apparently since iOS 14 is chewing it like Pez. Might do that some time after COVID season.

I love that the new 12 series is back to flat edges with something to grab for picking up. They never should have left that design. My personal preference is TouchID over FaceID, even before masks. (BTW - wasn’t iOS 14 supposed to have a mask-friendly FaceID? “Alternate appearance” mode or something?).

Fix that camera bump garbage, and I’ll have an iPhone-sized hole in my bank account. :)

Here's an idea for a future phone. One that works. A phone that charges wirelessly with no issues. A phone that I do not have to reset once every other day because it has stopped charging wirelessly.
Apple needs to FIX the problems of the current models before moving on to "foldable" models.
??? You might have a lemon - did you try returning it? I’ve had iPhones since the 3G and never have any of them needed to be reset every day. Reliability has been rock-solid.

Might also be a problem with your wireless charger.

Camera bumps are here to stay unless we want thicker phones; the camera is too big of a selling point. I use the 12 without a case and haven‘t had any issues.

Face ID is superior to Touch ID in my experience. Since I tried it with the iPhone X, I never wanted to go back to the thumbprint.

From now on, I think I’ll be buying the last iPhone in each series. I have held onto my iPhone 11 Pro and not upgraded to the 12 Series model. I think I’ll buy the last iPhone in the “12” series before a major refreshing. Is that the iPhone 14? Who knows!

there is gonna be a lot of people diagnosed with Brain Cancer with all the RF Radiation these latest phones put out.

Especially 5G and 6G
Cell phones have been in use since the 1980s. Historical data is not on the side of your future prediction. Not quite sure which ouija board provided that prediction.

This is such a waste in thinking about it. Apple has already mapped out its next several iPhone and features and costs they want and how to get the most money. It’s business.

If they really were thinking about what the needs are of the users then the iPhone 12 and iOS would have already addressed the face mask problem with either Touch ID under screen or side button Touch ID.
Apple reminds me of those sports franchise video games (Like Madden Football). While they have the ability to add new features users are clamoring for...they’ll just slowly add one or two each year so they’ll have an excuse to update the product every year.

Actually.. Apple is not the only one doing that. The whole tech industry does that. It's just more extreme for the one or other company.

I mean: You have to please the shareholders who want more and more profits every year. If you put too much new stuff into one generation, it's harder to get new stuff for the next one that is incentive enough to get the users to upgrade.

Camera is one of the things that sells pretty well for most people. Probably the reason why Apple focuses so much on that since the last two gens.

couldn't apple have snatched up periscope cameras years ago? I remember the patents. its kinda pathetic to be this far behind Samsung

Nobody who knows anything about the quality of Apple’s cameras thinks they are “this far behind Samsung.”

Apple never gives all these features together.

They only add 1-2 new features at a time.
So we’ll probably only see smaller notch+ 120hz display in iPhone 13 and nothing else from the list.

Then under display Touch ID and better telephoto Zoom in iPhone 14,and so on.

This also depends on what features Samsung and others offer, because these definitely affect Apple’s speed and willingness for adding new features.

Jobs also once said that ’Copy and Paste’ wasn’t needed on an iPhone. They give us what THEY want - WHEN they want.
That decision and statement showed that jobs was out of touch in certain aspects.

And it’s true, Apple gives us what THEY want - WHEN they want. But how is that different then any other manufacturer?

I know this has been debated to death on MacRumors, but I still can't get over the fact that they're still using the lightning connector, while every iPad and Apple computer has USB-C ports. Maybe it's because I'm an old fart now, but I still occasionally mess up and pack the wrong cables or plugs when I'm traveling. Between my Anker portable charger, Apple Watch, 15 inch MacBook Pro (2016), 11 inch iPad Pro (2019?), iPhone 12, and my Bose QC35 II headphones, I need a whole bag of plugs, dongles, and cables. USB-A, USB-C, micro-USB, Lightning, and of course, the Apple Watch magnetic charging cable. Ugh!!!!!

How much simpler would all of this be if every device and every plug adapter just had a USB-C port?? The only thing on my list where that wouldn't work is the Apple Watch. And okay, I get that. It needs the magnetic charger. But the headphones using micro-USB to charge is absurd. Micro-USB is about the size of USB-C and Lightning, but SO MUCH WORSE since it's asymmetric and isn't used for anything else. Also, now the Lightning plugs are only used on the iPhones (and AirPods, if you have them). And of course, they look an awful lot like USB-C as well! So, I have cables which are USB-C to Lightning, USB-A to USB-C, USB-C to USB-C, and USB-A to magnetic charger (for the watch). And I need plug adapters which are both USB-A and USB-C.

Is all of this crap really necessary? I want USB-C to USB-C for everything. And my understanding is that Apple is not going to the USB-C standard on the iPhone because they get better waterproof functionality with Lightning. So, because there's a tiny fraction of people who actually swim or dive with their iPhones (WHY???), the rest of us have to live in cable and dongle hell.

Anyway, that's my two cents, and I know my opinion isn't even worth two cents as far as Apple is concerned. But I would give up every single proposed new feature in this article to just have a USB-C port on my next iPhone.

As a side note, my elderly parents both have iPads and iPhones, and they REALLY have a hard time keeping straight which things they need to charge which devices. And because their vision isn't what it used to be, they have a lot of difficulty differentiating between the Lightning and USB-C ports. When my mom asks me why her iPad uses USB-C to charge, but her phone uses Lightning, my answer is simply, "I don't know." I wish I could give her a better answer than that, but there really isn't a better answer.

Okay, sorry. End of rant.
