What is it?

It's IT
You know that thing that doesn't fall over. Apple has put it's logo on IT and IT will change the way we live.

That all IT is. IT

if apple's new stuff is way bigger than what we are thinking... lets go even bigger...

G5 PowerMacs - 1 GHz, 1.5GHz & 2GHz
G5 PowerBooks - 733MHz, 867MHZ, 1GHz
G4 LCD iMac (New Design) - 733 MHz, 867 MHz, 1 GHz
G4 iBooks - 733MHz, 867MHz, 1 GHz

iPod - 5GB & 10GB
iP____ maybe iPlay?? - Hand held MPEG & MOV Player transfering movies via FireWire
iPad - hand held PDA with Mac OS X Lite. Just like Windows XP lite PDA.

iMovie 3
Mac OS 10.2

Adobe GoLive, Adobe PhotoShop, PageMaker for OS X
Macromedia Fireworks, dreamweaver & Flash for OS X

If this is going to be big... then maybe these might be it... If it is... this will sure make me happy! But I have a feeling that G5 & G4 for both the "books" and desktops well be launched... Bye Bye G3...

this is great!

Remember when Apple's site would have teasers about upcoming products?

"PRO GO WHOA!"

or the chip, shopping cart, and screwdriver (for G3, online shopping, and customization)?

Does anyone have copies of these?

Jan 7th....SJ walks out, all in black of course.....and up the the screen pops "G5"...and the crowd goes crazy....and then one more word slowly fades below G5....
"everything".....SJ explains after the audience finally stops clapping and screaming that the new G5 chip is so good, so revolutionary, so fast and cool that it is imediately being put into the New Power Mac, the new TiBook, the new LCD iMac and the new iBook....iMac and iBook at 1 Ghz, TiBook at 1.2 and 1.4 GHz and Towers at 1.6, 2.0 and 1.8 Dual......

just dreaming....

I dont think its that the rumor sites are guessing low, its that we are guessing WRONG. Ive seen so many G5 rumors I could pull my hair out. I dont think its that we arent thinking high' enough, we arent thinking 'left and right' There's probably strategies we havent thought up, nor the products that come with them.

A bit of reality in these troubled times

Another news site mentioned an announcement from IDG regarding the moving of the keynote. I did some digging for this announcement and found something interesting:

http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/f_headline.cgi?bw.010202/220022043&ticker=IDGTS

It mentions a long list of exhibitors presenting new products, including:

- VPC5, OS9 and OSX native
- VectorWorks 9.5, OSX-native CAD program
- LightWave 3D version 7

As well as several other interesting apps. The two that really caught my eye, however, were the following:

- "Six Degrees, a new product set to transform the desktop by allowing content creators, creative professionals,
marketing professionals and digital file authors to quickly navigate through the clutter of the desktop in a powerful new way"
- "ThinkFree Office, a Microsoft(R) Office compatible suite of word processing, spreadsheet and
presentation graphics applications, which uses Java technology to support a wide variety of operating systems and device platforms"

Go to http://www.thinkfree.com for that last item... this looks VERY interesting...

I got chills just reading your speculative post.

I think nobody has speculated my favorites. An ipod device for the car, an ivideo camera device, raid option for everything, and of course software and interface to make it all compelling.

There is an outside chance G5 2.4ghz a realistic initial top end.

The fastest

The fastest 64bit Processor selling right now is made by Intel, called the itanium. Its 800mHz, and it does the job better than any chip out right now. So, it doesnt have to be 2.4 gHz to be unbelievably fast.

whats the secret?

what has apple been very weak in lately?
GAMES!!!
I predict that Apple has signed a deal with either Sega which we produce games for apple including the highly rated 2k sports series,{they are producing games for every one else or with Sony which will allow Apple to make an emulation progam that will run playstation 2 games on all 500MHZ or higher ati rage pro128 or higher Macs
What I would like to see is a full 1year tech support in addition to the 1 year warranty. The same imac software bundle will be included with pro systems with the addition of techtool pro lite, iphoto, games{chess, checkers, tony hawk 2, virtua fighter, shemmue2, etc}, final cut pro light and get this , an actual big thick manual!!
wishful thinking huh?
a fire wire adapter for ipod that will allow musicians and journalist to capture up to 24bit sound thru a built in stereo condenser mic or mic and digtal inputs along with a standard leather case and belt clip 6month warranty upgradable to 2 years {repairable} and a price of $299.
All powermacs will be duals
dual 1.2 apollo dvd/cdrw 80GB 512MB gf2 $1799
dual 1.4 apollo dvdrw/cdrw 100GB 1GB gf3 $2399
DUAL 1.6 G5 dvdrw/cdrw 120GB 1.5GB GF3 twin $2999
the G5 will have a titanium finish trimmed in gold with a lcd info panel on front
all powermacs will have tv-in/out svhs cable connectors
and will be able to be used as Tivo devices
A digital camcorder co -developed with sony that uses no tape but instead a 7200rpm 10GB version of ipods
hard drive
A 5 megapixal camera with the ipods 5GB hard drive co devoloped with canon with interchangeble lenses and firewire and usb printing directly from the camera.
WISHFUL THINKING?

GameCube?

Lot's of mentions of PS2/XBox emulation but what about Nintendo? The GameCube is so hot right now that many retailers are hard pressed to keep them in stock. It runs on a custom IBM G3 chip and ATI graphics (and sound I've heard).

How hard would it be to make a Mac run those games?

Just a thought.

Decisions, decisions....

"I fear what is coming."

"I fear that the purchase frenzy that it will put me in will cause my wife to divorce me."

HA! You and me both, brother! I've been on 'hardware probation' so long, it hurts! ;-)
