I suspect using it for 15 minutes will eliminate any perception of it being heavier. It's barely noticeable anyway. Those with the iPad 1 will experience a bigger upgrade! (thinner/lighter) I would imagine. But for us coming from the iPad 2, the weight and size should not be a problem.

The screen though.... wow. And LTE is faster than my FIOS connection at home...

Too bad they don't offer unlimited. It's like driving a Ferrari with speed limit.

I literally can't believe anyone finds the new iPad noticeably heavier. Holding the two, old and new hand in hand the difference is so small I actually forgot it was heavier initially

As much as I love the Tab 10.1, the iPad's aspect ratio and pixel density is superior for web browsing and eText / PDF reading.

I have the Tab 8.9 and 7.0, and I would disagree with the "superior" characterization. The screens on these devices are excellent (compared to the iPad 2 of course) and the aspect ratio is just fine for browsing (landscape) and reading (portrait). Their smaller size and lighter weight make them a joy to use.

Stick iOS on one with an even better screen and that would be tablet heaven. (iPad mini anyone? ;) )

The Weight Doesn't Bother Me

as much as the fact that it's slippery and the edge cuts into my hand.

What I'd LOVE is a very thin rubber "tire" to goes around the outside edge to make it easier to hold. I use a leather Smart Cover and don't want to add to the bulk more than that/

Anyone know of something like this?

They don't offer it now, but I have the unlimited plan from the iPad 1 days. Looking forward to taking it out for a spin!!!!

Any of the back shells compatible with the smart cover will work. I use Marware. Incipio and Belkin also make them for the iPad 3.

The weight does not bother me. The iPad one is probably a little heavier but not by much. If anything the new iPad feels well balanced in my hands. :)

I meant superior in the sense that on this new iPad I can read an entire page of text from a PDF or eText without scrolling left and right or up and down. The screen replicates the shape and clarity of a physical page. For me, this is more comfortable.

I still prefer the 16:10 ratio for video and the Tab's stereo speakers.

Edit: ^ and the Tab's form factor with rounded edge. ;)

My girlfriend has a huge bag. There's so much stuff in there. Even when you take out her laptop, and nursing textbooks, it still is very heavy to carry. And I'm pretty sure there's nothing in there that's much heavier than a pen or pencil.

My point: It all adds up, and 3 CD's might not be a lot on their own, but in a hand, for a long time, they can be. Especially when you consider that 3 CD's are probably a decent percentage of the overall weight.

My girlfriend has a huge bag is not a helpful way to stay off of porn sites on the retina display, and starting a sentence like that has a way of making all the words afterwords disappear. You TEASE

The difference is three CDs (plus a bottle cap).. pick up three CDs and that's how much extra it weighs..
three cds.

Yes. But please do tell, can you hold extra weight of 3 or 4CDs more than 20mins without experiencing strain? It doesn't mean a lot if you lift it for like a minute. How about much longer than that?

I held both last night before I sold my iPad 1. The original was slightly heavier, but not by much. Either way it's a huge upgrade.
