just talked to ATT and they are being hard-a**es of course...$190 ETF...so calling Verizon now to see if I can somehow port the numbers back to ATT and get NEW numbers with Verizon UNTIL the 15th or 16th of this month...to take care of the ETF...

IMO, I'm not sure $190 would be worth the aggravation of sorting this mess out (via phone calls) after multiple ports, prorated bills, shipping phones back and ETF fees. I would pay it and try to move on as lesson learned (that is just me).

Whoa! Props to Verizon on that one. That's a pretty nice concession.
Glad things worked out for you.

Verizon knows this sort of thing can make someone a customer for life. That's why they do it.

I've not had any problems with AT&T, but hearing this story definitely makes me consider Verizon if I ever do!

Step 1: Call Version and get a new phone number for your phones
Step 2: Winback port
Step 3: port your number again

this is the sort of thing that it seems Verizon realizes makes long-term business sense...I really appreciate that!...AT&T's awful lack of unlocking policy doesn't make long-term business sense...I would have been less likely to change to Verizon if they just sold all phones unlocked since I travel a lot...anyways, VERY happy with Verizon for helping resolve this so quickly...I guess I can still call AT&T and beg for additional $ back...anything from them would be a bonus on top :)

...also thanks to everyone here for responding with your input! Much appreciated!

AT&T is not going to give you the time of day since you canceled service. Good to hear Verizon gave you the credit. If it makes you feel better you can call AT&T and tell them to drop dead!! Glad it worked out...

You can just ask AT&T to activate your account and assign a temporary number for 10 days until your contract is up. Then you'll be able to use your real number on Verizon right away. Not a big deal.

OK...so at least Verizon is being nice...they agreed to credit us the $190 to cover the ATT ETF :)
..liking Verizon so far!

Wow! That's customer for life gesture right there. Kudos to Verizon.

Apple received me as customer for life, when corp pretty much got me a brand new macbook on the spot when my local Apple store was giving me the runaround on my old one that was being repaired. Contacted Apple corp, within 24 hours, I had a voicemail from Steve Job's executive assistant (at least that's what she identified herself as), and told me to pick up my brand new Macbook at the Apple store.

Take the $190 credit and leave EVERYTHING alone. Why port back and forth, maybe phone equipment issues, etc etc.

Personally, even without the $190, I would leave it along. Hard lesson, but I want my phone with a number people can reach me.

I think you are missing the point. Verizon is offering to pay his ETF with AT&T to prevent him from cancelling and porting back and forth. In other words, he can leave everything satus quo, pay AT&T their blood money, and Verizon is going to make it all good.

I have to say, I'm impressed. I've tried to get Verizon to do this with a corporate account before and they refused because our account was too small.

this is a stretch but will ATT let me put a temporary phone number on the account, or could i add some basic phone to it for 10 days? or is the contract totally closed now?

I think it's prorated so if they charge you anything it shouldn't be very much. Less than $20??

They stop prorating after $50. So it'll be $50 for each line. I jumped ship from Sprint with 6 months left cause they wouldn't go down anymore from the $50.

I talked to ATT...I could resume the account, but would need to be with at least 1 on the numbers I ported out--they wouldnt allow any other change to the account because they say it's "cancelled"..ie. cant add a new line with temp. number or anything...so, I guess walk away from the suckers and enjoy Verizon!

leave it alone.

Anything you do is an open invitation for $**** to go bad. Why would you mess with it?

The OP posted his good news message a few seconds before I posted that message. I wasn't aware that VZW was covering that extra charge, which is why I said that. Great news though, pretty surprised that they did that.

Sorry, just noticed the post you quoted was different.
