Nah this is about the other version the XP Upgrade CD (the one you don't have), which Blackheart claims is OK by Microsoft to install on an Intel Mac.

If you do call the 1-800 number, don't tell them you're an end use, say you're the system builder or they might actually charge you for the code...

EDIT: Mac OS doesn't show up on the list for retail upgrades (what was linked). Could it be that this only applies to volume license upgrades?

That's the main Microsoft Home & Small Business Support #. They'll probably ask you for a Credit Card #. 😛

FWIW the number I gave you appears to be from Q-Media, a company that handles many of Microsoft's OEM licensing.

BTW, if you don't have the numbers, then you are using an OEM disc, the numbers are affixed to the side of the case by most computer maunfacturers. OEM discs are only licensed for the computers they were shipped with. Any other use is a violation of EULA. Purchase a legit copy of Windows and try again.

While you are correct Skoker, I think he was trying to say if you grabbed the disc from another PC thinking you could use it (even if the other PC will no longer be used) you can't. You can buy an OEM version of windows if you buy a piece of hardware with it, some places don't even follow that, but what are the implications of installing it on a different system than the hardware is going into? I guess if you buy a RAM upgrade for your iMac that might constitute enough to put an OEM version of windows on your iMac but I am no expert. Anyway I just thought of it when reading your post and figured what the hell I will throw my 2 cents in which is about all my thoughts are worth sometimes! 😛

Ok guys here is the deal. I called the number, but I gotta do all the stuff online, so I decided to get the cd out of my imac. The mouse trick worked and the cd ejected . The computer restarted and when I hear no chime,but I held down the option key anyway. Nothing. I tried holding down the Apple key, nothing. Is there anyway to get back on osx??? I have a computer but can't get on an OS.

I know there has to be a little trick, it starts up grey screen then goes to black and says loading windows xp, where it will eventually ask me for COA.

I appreciate the help, I just want my Mac back.

Sounds like you deleted your OS X or EFI partition somehow. 😱 😕 Did you perchance pick the wrong partition to install WIndows on? Boot from the Tiger CD that came with yout iMac and see what Disk Utility says for your internal HDD.

I set it up on partition c though??? Well I got the coa and now I'm finishing up on the xp install, maybe I can switch if all of this works out right.

Microsoft didn't ask me if I was end user or builder, they asked for a number that was on the cd, then gave me the coa.


Wooooo weeee it works!!! Windows set up, I popped in the drivers cd and everything looks beautiful. (for windows) I restarted and when I heard the chime I held down option, and osx appeared, and I booted into it. Everyhing is just as I left it. Everything seems to be running fine, just hope it stays that way, thanks again guys for all the help. I feel bad putting my mac through so many hard shut downs, but it will forgive me 😀

I called the number that you gave me, the microsoft home office. It was pretty easy, was only on the phone about 5/6 minutes. Every thing seems to be doing ok, a few glitches but nothing bad at all. Thanks again!
