That's why people are pissed off. With the kind of sales figures they are making, and a design as problematic to warrant its own Antennagate moniker as well as make people fear breaking the glass back, you'd think Apple would have listened to the consumer and made something we actually wanted.

And the fact that a 3.5 inch screen just doesn't cut it anymore.

Anybody who thinks this isn't a disappointment has either:

1) Never had an iPhone before.

2) Never had another smartphone other than the iPhone and religiously worships everything Apple does.

That's the truth and I'm sticking to it. It's shameful to see grown-up people act like this wasn't the biggest disappointment of the year.

48 people voted this down because they know it is the truth and they dont wanna admit it :)

I actually promised to have my left testicle removed in a previous thread because I thought that apple would have the balls to come out with something new. But low and behold, they didn't and I have one testicle left.

I'm not going to risk that other testicle and predict iPhone 5. Knowing how Apple can have so much discipline to withhold an actual iPhone 5 they have in development and not release news about it takes some discipline. I'm sure they want their stock investors to be happy next year too. Because it's all about the $.

This year they reaped the stock market rewards by releasing iPad 2 and new macbook pros. I'm sure they are saving up the whopper for next year 2012.

One of the more disturbing things I picked up on yesterday was the overall tone of the keynote. For the first time, I heard people saying "this is just as fast as our competitors." With Jobs, Apple never said anything like that. It was always faster, even if it wasn't true.

My biggest fear, and I know that Jobs was around for the development of this phone, is that Apple becomes complacent. Cook is a numbers guy. The iPhone 4S represented the lowest cost upgrade they could do. They essentially use all the same components and repackage the inside. Sure, they'll make loads off of it and their bottom line will be fine, but in a more competitive mobile market, as a shareholder, I do worry about the future.

Consumers think about stuff like screen size and the like, and it will be a hard sell for people to show them a device that looks the same and expect them to upgrade immediately. Of course, I'm sure it will break records, but still. I hope this isn't the start of something new.

Can you imagine Ford or BMW saying "here's a great new car that can do all these amazing new things, but er its going to look exactly the same as the one we were selling you a year and a half ago....er please still buy it right?"

It would never happen, what on earth were Apple thinking?....they are notorious for drip dripping out each tiny technological advancement in order to maximise profits but keeping with the smaller screen while all other smartphones are going 4"+? keeping a phone made of glass?....

Mental.

Actually, that's exactly what BMW does. The current E90 (3 series sedan) started production as a 2006 model and will stop this month. That's 5 years for a current body style. And yes, the new 335 that replaced your 330 now has a twin turbo inline 6 with more horsepower, more torque, and better gas mileage.........and you're going to buy it!

So yeah, bad analogy.

This is actually a very astute point, which I said out loud myself to a couple of my business/investment partners. Overall, the explosion in Apple as a brand and a stock has been because the competition has been trying to say "we are as good as Apple," which Main Street and Wall Street did not buy into. If Apple reverses course and starts comparing "down" to competitors, they will lose market share, value in consumer eyes and ultimately stagnate financially. That being said, this is a minor blip on the innovation map and I continue to put my money (and my client's) on Apple. However, this will not be a blind lemming brand loyalty if Cook does a couple of these in a row. I for one that that will not happen.

Again, well put post AHDuke.

For all the Apple haters out there - go screw yourselves. Buy whatever you think is better - because it just doesn't matter to me or anyone else. I'm sick and tired of people complaining about bs issues. Apple has led the market because of the vision of Steve Jobs (RIP) and the team of designers and visionaries that work there.

If you think you can do better, go ahead, prove it. Become a product designer and get a job at Samsung or Moto or wherever. Otherwise, just STHU!

Obviously not true, but you have to wonder how the negative press affected him in such a weak state.

Apple shouldn't be selling three phones, 2 of which cannot perform their flagship feature. Either drop the 3GS, or stop confusing people..

Spoken like a true technical visionary.
If they're selling, why not? Apple is a business, not a fanboy club. The sell to make money. If people are willing to buy a model with fewer features so what? If you can get confused over 3 different model phones that speaks more about you than anything Apple should be doing.

I think having just two groups of people who isn't disappointed is a bit of generalisation.

There are existing iPhone users who are truly happy with a 3.5 inch screen, just like there are loyal iOS users who truly want a bigger screen.

Those liking 3.5 inch should go try a 2.8 inch first before saying 4.3 inch is too big, because that's what a person who have used a 4.3 inch might be feeling when using a 3.5 inch screen. Using an iPad is not an option because that's no longer pocketable. Going to Android is not not an option because we love iOS.

Personally I think both the big screen and small screen lovers should respect each other's wishes, and apple should have both models available. I personally prefer a 960x640 pixel phone on a 4 inch screen, achieving a still wonderful 288 dpi density. I don't care what it is called.

Apple is like any other company, they wanna make money. You as the consumer can choose to buy into it or not. They introduced the iPhone 4S yesterday. Don't like what they released? You are more then welcome to choose from the tons of devices out there that better suit your needs. Bitching and moaning on a forum isn't gonna help you.
