Finally! Feral is the best, not giving up on us after 2,5 years in development. And as I suspected the game is also in my Steam library since I bought the Windows version to get Bioshock 2 for Mac.
:D
I'm a casual gamer so it's actually better to play older games that run better on newer Macs. Have many games I haven't played yet. Metro Exodus coming next! :)

On PC and XBox, you received the remastered collection of Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinite for free, four years ago.
This is the first time it's available for mac, so mac only users wouldn't have that to begin with.

Although I'm curious why they didn't do a simultaneous Mac and iOS release with Catalyst, it would've added a lot more value to that $20 if one purchase could've covered Mac, iOS, and tvOS

I recall buying a PS3 just to play the original BioShock. I wanted to jump into some gaming and, sweet summer child, I wanted to try one of the fancy new consoles. I thought this will let me use my computer as it is without going into buying a whole PC for gaming. I didn't realize how much more PC gaming offered.

Even if you're not a hard-core "competitive" gamer fanatical about maximum fps and screen refresh and every blade of grass rendered perfectly, PC gaming offers a lot of better experience than, say, consoles. Even as a non gamer, I greatly enjoy casual gaming with MMO or story-based games.

I wish that consoles had filled this niche for, say, Mac users, but they don't. I'd rather build a box with parts from Newegg. It'd be hard to position Macs to be able to fill this niche without some really eyebrow raising advances with Apple Silicon.

As it is, my wife is using my old gaming PC right now, because the Nvidia 1060 card is providing necessary baseline beef for work she is doing with Premiere. Gives me an excuse not to game. Or, maybe, to build another one.

I bought BioShock 1 and 2 remastered on Steam a while ago, when they were on sale. I noticed the Mac version is available on Steam as well. Are they the same version? Or is the Mac App store version more enhanced with Metal support etc?

Good to see more classic Games coming to the Mac. I hope Apple makes an effort to have their ARM chips have desktop class GPU performance. We may see more games be ported to the Mac in that case.

They're the same. Feral doesn't make bad ports for Steam and good ports for MAS. In fact some times MAS versions are more limited, like when shift codes didn't work in Borderlands 2 on MAS (ported by Aspyr).

Same here. The irony is that the games I play on Mac and not on my PC are the non-graphic intensive games that are perfect for Mac.

But yeah, the 32-bit apocalypse wiped them out.

Yep. Mine were all old things like Portal 2 and the Half-Life series. Far from cutting-edge stuff, but still really fun to play.

If you bought the remastered Bioshock games for Windows in Steam then you have the macOS versions now too.

And, in less than a month, Apple Silicon!

Wait, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a game Apple showed off at WWDC, right?

If you run Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark there’s a texture clipping problem in the village scene. You can see the smoke flickering on and off.

Meanwhile all the Half-Life and Portal games are no longer supported on Mac. But it's okay you can still install Boot Camp. Well until you get an ARM Mac that is.

I will summarize the games philosophically.

In game one Ron Paul is the villain. In game 2 it’s Joe Biden.

Outside of the light layer of pop philosophy the games are amazing.

This is good. Would be even better if they used this time to start porting apps to the new ARM based gpu macbook models.

Feral and Aspyr choices are very questionable, how many mac users want to buy a remastered decade old game? but they have been in business for a long time so...they must be doing something right.

It's funny to me, seeing people getting irritated by folks mentioning that this game has been out for years on PC. That last fact is a moot point, you say? Why, I ask you? If you own a Mac, you also own a PC. You only needed a Windows license and you could have played this game years ago. I'm a Mac user through and through, but dissing PC gamers seems really silly here.
