They need an updated version that shoots squirrels. Or at least an API so I can use machine vision to detect them and activate the auto turret...

Or at least blast a loud horn directly in their face!

"iPhone Connected" and $279, but doesn't even have HomeKit..

Thats what I thought. This is perhaps the longest review of any product in MR

So do you all want shorter reviews in general, or longer reviews of AirPods? I've gotten that comment before on my reviews, I think I get carried away going into too much detail sometimes.

I endorse this content, but I also want a cat tax!

This is a cool product with a lot of thought put into it. However the price is hefty and the subscription is a hugh turnoff. This is something I would glance at in season and maybe a few times a month; so not something that needs an ongoing financial commitment. Parks are free.

Subscription not required! I'm going to update the review to make that more clear, I must have written it confusingly. Paying the cat tax! And bonus pic of him observing his bird feeders.

There are cheaper versions out there - I got my wife Netvue and the app called Birdfy works great.

She loves it and because it’s in our backyard facing the patio, it doubles as handy outdoor security camera too. Video and image quality are great!

I'd like to review this too to compare. I think the Bird Buddy app is really great, and I did see there are competing cameras out there. I'm wondering how the other apps work in comparison.

I've noticed the real life product is different from the presentation image. Is this for real or is the product in the photos an older model?

The product in the presentation image looks sleek but the real life looks like only bended metal.
If I would ordered and be like that, I would return.

This is solar roof vs. not solar roof. If you want the product photo image, get the version sans solar roof.

Great idea/concept. Birdfeeders can be really expensive, and need to be built well! 4 season areas can just destroy them, even if they are wood or metal.

Easy to clean is a must.

Seed tray needs to be able to drain any moisture as well.

Bird watching is fun imo

Why was asking what design was your bird feeder funny? Starlings have trouble with some bird feeders.

Sorry, I wasn't laughing at your comment - just at my own struggle of slowing down greedy Starlings with a bunch of different feeders and failed tricks.

I have about 20 of them that just hang about like a bunch of bickering, noisy chavs.

I can imagine the carnage of them finding this little webcam bird feeder. Would get some great video though.

Or at least blast a loud horn directly in their face!

I have the Netvue version and it has an alarm feature you can press if you see a squirrel on the feeder - and even a microphone to speak or yell!

Trust me it’s a loud alarm but it doesn’t deter a hungry squirrel!

my earlier comment may have sounded flippant and got some dislikes, but if you really like birds you may not want to get one
Due to the current outbreak of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), the University of Minnesota's Raptor Center recommends that you take down your bird feeders this spring to slow the spread from bird to bird. Learn more at https://t.co/zAZMMuOcgw @umnCVM pic.twitter.com/mBciWebmDV

we are having trouble buying eggs here at the moment due to the spread of the HPAI

A subscription is not required, just to be clear. Pricing starts at $199 right now, with a sale that's going on.
While the app is still supported and they don't move features from unpaid to paid (which has happened plenty of times with subscriptions)

Starlings can certainly be pests.

MR: Check out this cool bird feeder!
Me: Wow that is cool! (*scrolls to bottom of article*)
MR ... It costs $239... $299 if you want a solar roof.
Me: 😒
In elementary school I took a wood working class and built a bird house and feeder out of scrap material.

I'm guessing for $10 ~ $15 in material a fews hours of unplugged time and a $25 ~ $35 WYZE webcam you could make your own.

The AI also identifies the bird species.
People think TV and Streaming rots the brain.

If AI takes over say goodbye to critical thinking and higher order reasoning.

People will be lucky if they will still be able to tie their own shoes.

This article doesn’t mention the aspects of work using the app eventually overcoming the joy. Many basic tasks in the app need many actions and screens to the point it becomes very tedious if you have a lot of visitors. Some things have been fixed, but it’s taken a long, long time to get there. The dev team just seems to not get it at times.

Nope! Once had a neighbour that put a birdhouse on their front lawn. It was the start of an era for me and the neighbour on the other side of them, where we had birds crapping on our vehicles and driveways.

So glad when they moved and took the birdhouse with them.

I got this during the kick starter when it was a fraction of the price. After using it for over a year my opinion is….

It’s Freaking awesome! It does what it says in the box. Even the AI is not too shabby. I am in Australia and was worried the AI would be only American based as this tech always seems to be. But it’s surprisingly good. It either gets the bird right or it can’t recognise the bird, but seldom an incorrect bird. At least an 80% of the time.

The camera is really good to. No crap 90s web cam here.

My only advice is if you have big birds you want to 3D print or buy a stand so the birds can be further back when they eat. Also make sure you get the solar panel as well.

If you have the cash to splash this is good fun product. Very satisfied.

I have a Birdfy that is basically the same thing. Wife bought it for me just a couple of weeks ago. Never would have purchased it for myself, but it is interesting and fun to see what comes around. I could do without the sparrows, but most of the other birds are fun to watch. Birdfy has the same accessories, a microSD slot and records 20 seconds of video at a time. Subscription is not at all needed. Currently the birdfy is $149 for the Solar Panel model. Yes, it's absolutely a novelty, but I'm guessing the majority here have plenty of superfluous technology purchases in their wake.

No! No! A thousand times no! You don't need a special plastic feeder with a camera and an app and streaming and wifi and router settings and special feed and a subscription... just feed the birds! Feed the birds, watch the birds - it's great! Job done! Get a cup and a length of string, hang the cup by the handle, put food in the cup. Job done. Birds come and eat food, you watch birds. That's it. Where I live, I can by a sack of 20kg sunflower seeds for <£10. That lasts a year. Go mad, buy a couple of feeders, another £10. You're done.
Stand by for a shocking revelation: Not everything has to be streamed live or shared online! Just feeding the birds and watching them for a few minutes is it's own reward. Share a few private moments with your feathered friends. I've been doing it since the year dot, have taken a ton of photos and not shared a single one online - and yet, I live! The Sun comes up every morning, the world turns, the birds get fed and make it through the winter. Nobody makes and money or is influenced in any way. Good grief.... I really despair some days, and then along comes a thing like this, and I realise everything is much, much worse than I suspected.

It seems that watching the birds your way hasn't exactly led you to have a fulfilled life :)

I am very surprised at how many people scoff at this idea & really, whether you intend to or not, look down on those who do find the concept & the actual product to be a worthy investment. Watch the birds ever how you want to watch the birds. If you are feeding the birds, then that is fantastic. But just because you don't subscribe (heh) to this being a good product/concept/investment/whatever, doesn't make that the correct opinion to have. It is just your opinion & you are welcome to it, but having that opinion can be done without casting a negative light on those with a differing one. You can say that it doesn't appeal to you & why, but you can leave out the parts where you imply or even state, that anyone who does like it, must be an idiot.
