Rock dove

beautiful!

by the way I recently learned you can long press (or right click) on these images and then “info” to get info about what kind of bird it is. maybe that’s been around for a while but it’s new to me.
Would be nice if it worked, but may be a Windows/Apple thing. Right clicking on a Mac didn't offer a "info" option but did have "look up". It tried to identify the bird but decided it was an Australian Darter extremely lost hanging out in Central Florida. It did get the specie family correct - Anhinga, and that is the name it is locally referred too. As a side note, also known as a "snake bird" it dives and swims underwater spearing fish. As a result, it is waterlogged and can't fly until it dries out, those the open wing pose. Gators also know they cast fly during that period of vulnerability so they have to choose their drying point wisely.

A better way to identify a bird is the Merlin ID ap. You don't have to take a picture of an actual bird as it can be a picture of your computer screen showing the bird. It has a huge database and I have even used it in Europe.

In it's vulnerable position, this is how close my wife got before I framed the shot with a 200-600 lens... That gives you an idea how close I was, and given the forest rather than dock background, I had positioned myself around where she was..

Wow! very interesting, thank you for sharing this other photo and details.

Yes, I have Merlin too and recommend it strongly to everyone, Seek is a pretty good app too.

And yes I mis-wrote “info”, I meant to say “Look up”, I’ll correct it above. You’re right it’s certainly less accurate than Merlin but it’s convenient to save 1-2 steps… when it works, at least.

Thanks, and keep sharing all these wonderful photos, I love them. 🙏🏽
