I think you can turn off file allocation in Azureus if you really need the 7-8gb before the torrent finishes downloading. Beware though, once I was downloading more stuff than I had space for, and things started to go wacky until I got enough free space on the drive.

Phew, I thought I was the only one that happened to. ;) Sometimes my torrenting appetite is larger than my HDD... :D

hmmmm

I'm going to have to go back and try Azureus again after reading this thread.

My thing is, I once had az and another client open at the same time by accident. And since then Az warns me that there is another client open, even when there isn't.

I'm gonna reinstall.

hmmm, no more warning now that I used "app zapper" and reinstalled.nice

But now, the submenus don't close. Like the "new features in Azureus pop up" that happens when you start az for the first time...it wouldn't close, even after clicking "ok" and the red close button.

but, whatever, it works great, and with more trackers than transmission..and I gotst da green smilies..:)

+1

I've been using Transmission for the past year or so but I think I'm gonna try Azureus after reading all the features listed.

azureus rules all. it has some downfalls but in the end is the best choice by far.

i used to use azureus. i thought it was really good. when i got my macbook pro it didn't work so i went hunting for a universal client and found transmission. WOW, much better speeds. my vote is definitly for transmission!

I have no idea what you're going on about: http://www.applegoddess.org/gallery/d/140-1/azureus.jpg

If maxxing out connections isn't fast enough, I don't know what is.

Nice one! Yeah, I never seem to have a problem maxing out my connection with Azureus either the majority of the time. Now mind you when I go on our FTTH trial later this year, then we'll see...
Yeah. The mass majority of the time, the reason why speeds are so seemingly slow is because people get them from the wrong places :) ;) then they go off blaming the bt client...shame.

Good luck with fiber :( *envy* can't get it here, I don't think. Verizon can't do business in an SBC/AT&T area dammit.

Yep, I know exactly what you mean. bets just to shake your head at them, chuckle, and move on....

Thanks, don't worry, I know how lucky I am! Working for the SP here has its privileges, that's for sure....

I also use Acquisition. It's not free, but it does its job very well.

Agreed. Acquisition does the job very well. But Azureus is good for lots of torrent files at once and/or large files.

Yep, absolutely, which suits my torrenting needs perfectly. Azureus once handled a 60+ GB torrent file for me without even blinking an eye.

What were you torrenting that was 60 GB?

guess im the only one here that uses Bits on wheels?
Like people have already said, BoW is horrendously out of date, is not a universal binary, and is banned from certain *cough* sites for not following the BitTorrent protocol correctly. Rather big sites.

I was using Tomato Torrent and I was getting around 5-6kbs on a 1.1Mb connection, I just now switched to Transmission and the speed of my download has shot up.

Thanks to this thread :]

Well

I reinstalled Azureus, and it works great. But I have some issues with it, that will keep me using Transmission, or Tomato (for the trackers that don't take transmission)

1-I don't like how it saves a second copy of the torrent file where you tell it to save the file you are downloading, what's the point of that?

2-I can't get it to close the pop up windows, I have to just shrink them down, and hide them.

3-I can't get it to quit. I have to force quit it everytime.

But it downloads fast, and does what it's meant to do (download stuff fast) but the other quirks just annoy me so much that I'm stickin with Transmission and wheels.

It was the complete collection of the 4th Doctor's episodes from Doctor Who. I eventually downloaded every single eispode of the series, actually, so my Doctor Who collection now sits at about 170 GB of AVIs. That's what you get when you download the longest running sci-fi series in history!

You can turn that off in Preferences. Files > Torrents, uncheck the "Save .torrent files" option.

Hmm, the small popups in the corner? I rarely get those, so i'm not sure how to turn them off :(

It might be writing stuff to disk, but again, I've never force quitted Azureus, so I don't know :(
