What can get dirty is the seam between the glass and the white plastic trim. There's a small gap there which can trap dirt from your hands. Sporting a bumper will hide this area therefore no problems.

Well that may be but i haven personally seen my cousin's white iPhone 4 after they had it for a year and it was pretty disgusting. Now i don't know if thats my cousin's fault or the phone, but it definitely had a yellow tint to it
AND not just on the plastic gap that is exposed, the entire glass area on front and back just looked yellow and nasty. I'm going to assume its from after the coating that comes on the glass wears off and then maybe stains the glass.
Either way, that was enough to make me stay with a black 4s from my 3gs.

I had a white ipad 2 since launch day, and an iPhone 4S now. I can say the white never yellowed and hadn't noticed any noticeable dirtiness on the phone.
I recently swapped my White iPad 2 for a black one (for 3g). My Black one actually looks dirtier because now I can see every speck of dust that lands on it.

The white 4/4s tends to look way cleaner than any other iPhone I've had in the past. Fingerprints and such do not stand out at all, and they are very easy to clean off using any random piece of clothing.
If you *really* want to, you can buy new front and rear glass for the black iPhone and replace it (as well as the button). The connector and headphone jack will still be white plastic, but I guess you could replace those, too if you wanted to go spendy & much more technical. Around $110 in parts (I don't work for/have in interest in these guys, just FYI). You could probably get used/off-market/grey market parts cheaper + you could probably sell your white parts to help off set that cost you pull out for a respectable amount assuming they're not too badly used or damaged (esp screen).

I just went down the hall to a friend of mine who's had the white iPhone 4 since it was released. He's never used a case on it, and it still looks fresh and clean. Doesn't make me reconsider my white 4S in the least after seeing the condition his is in.
I ordered the white iPhone 4s with apple online after owning a black iPhone 4 for the year+... let me tell you I really like the white for like a week.. Than I realized the black one is just way better for me... the looks, the matching with everything and even like at night while in bed I could look at the phone all dark.. Plus it gets too dirty.. So I sold my white 4s and gone back to my iphone 4 black.. I want the black 4s

But the problem is, I used cases and there are never any white cases, and I hate having more than one color, so I bought an otterbox defender to cover the whole phone and make it black for when I felt like having a black iPhone, but it would leave a white outline on the screen that was very distracting.
I fixed this by buying a moshi iVisor screen protector and I put this on then the otterbox, and you can't see any white. Then when I'm home, I take it all off and have the beautiful white iPhone.

I've had black phones since 2000. Got a white one. I felt like going black after a month, so I bought a black wrap that literally makes it look black lol.
In 3 days Ill have a brushed stainless steel wrap where my phone will look silver.
I get bored of the same color. The white got boring to me so I made it black. But after going silver for a few months, Ill put it back to white. Then black carbon fiber haha.
Eh i forgot the date, but even then that even helps to prove my point that they had it LESS than a year and it was disgusting.

Funny, as soon as I got my black 4s I kinda wished I had gotten white. All of my former phones have been black and I like change. Not to mention I plan on using this only till the 5 comes out then I will get the new one and my wife will get this... She prefers white.

I love my White 4s, always looks clean. I was alway wiping my black 3gs, I hardly ever wipe my white 4s. I'm very anal about my stuff so I'm not sure what you guys do that you have dirty white iPhones. Mine looks great!
