Bought my second Apple HomePod and I can now play music throughout my house. The deal saves some money and much better than paying full price.

I totally understand the issue with compatibility. I keep looking to switch to a HomePod because of that. It would be easier.

I just would need the price to come down and Apple to open up their Apple Music service to other players. I currently listen to Amazon Unlimited from my Roku Ultra and high-end soundbar and sub using Amazon’s channel app on the Roku. If Apple were to have the same access through an Apple channel, I’d switch to a HomePod today.

This will probably not happen anytime soon. They never invested much afford in their apps running on other platforms.
That's why iMessage is not running officially on Android or Logic Pro or Final Cut Pro on Windows.
Their software is and always has been connected to their hardware.
For the benefit of better support, stability and of course
they want to sell their hardware. In your case they want you to buy an apple TV not the Roku Ultra.

But this is nothing new nor it's connected to Cook. I can't remember a single studio that works with mixed platforms succesfully.
I remember some attempts but all ended up with deciding for one or the other.

Oh there is one exception that just came to my mind: iTunes. I guess they didn't dare to force people to buy a mac to be able to use an iPod or iPhone..

All the complainers... I swear if you guys don't like the HomePod or think it's too much why the hell do you have to ruin it for everyone else. Freaking cry babies! Wha... Wha... Apple Sucks... they are still too expensive!

Don't worry I purchased 4 of them I am giving to my staff. I got your slack! LOL

Uh, okay. Is this better?

I think what this forum needs is more people saying they think these are overpriced and that they won’t buy them. Three pages of that isn’t nearly enough.

Wait why would it be worse? I think it's always better on a forum I love encouraging the use of open opinion on our site.

I honestly didn't even bother giving the HomePod a second glance when it was released once I saw it's price tag, but when I saw the BF price, I started looking into it. And then I unexpectedly walked out with a Space Gray HomePod on Friday. I LOVE IT. My spouse and I exist in the Apple ecosystem already, so this is the perfect device for our household.

Still $100 too expensive.

Nah. It's still at least $200 too expensive.

This thing might be worth it at $49.99. $19.99 would probably be closer to realistic.

$250 is almost as stupid as $350.

What's an Amazon Echo going for today? Let's check. $69.00. And it does more than Apple's speaker.

But even if you want to compare it to the new shiny fancy Amazon speaker, there's the Echo Plus, at $109.99. I mean, Apple's is the old haggard last year's model, so it's hardly a fair comparison, but there it is.

$250? Why would anybody buy this?

I don't see why anybody would buy the Amazon one either, a "smart speaker" isn't. But whatever. Apple's is not just overpriced, it's so absurdly overpriced that even $100 off is laughably expensive.

No wonder they've never reported sales on these. It's probably selling about as well as the iPod Hi-Fi.

I would not say that price should be $30, but I believe that it might be little overpriced. What gets me is no Bluetooth support. Apple offers Apple Music on Android, so you would think people who have Android with Apple Music should be able to play their content on the speaker.

Oh, it doesn't even do Bluetooth? Yeah, I take back that $19.99.

Make that $9.99.

I’m not sure if you’re trying to troll this forum or not but I have to correct some misinformation. The HomePod has Bluetooth 5.0 built in which would allow you to stream whatever audio service you desire to it. Also, your comparing apples to oranges. The $69 dollar Echo isn’t even in the same class as the HomePod or even the Echo Plus. You’d have to add on the $130 Echo Sub to come close or get the Google Home Max which also costs $349. These are the HomePod’s direct competition.

Also, if you’re curious, the reason the Home Pod is priced much higher is due to some advanced audio engineering. Apples goal with the HomePod was to deliver the highest fidelity audio quality possible in the smallest form factor possible. Some might argue it delivers sound quality rivaling audio systems that cost thousands of dollars. With Amazon and Google’s Echo and Home products they’re goal is to build a smart speaker cheap enough to make it attractive to as many people as possible since the core of thier businesses is to collect as much data about its customers as possible.

Apparently most of the people are ignoring the fact that the HomePod is actually a really well sounding speaker.
Isn't that something? I mean for what purpose do I need multiple ways of streaming, wiring or pairing if the result is poor sound, no matter in what way..

Yes, I believe they are just trolling.

Sorry to be technical but it doesn’t have Bluetooth. It has AirPlay 2.0 which allows you to airplay any audio from an iOS or Mac. However you can’t stream audio via Bluetooth from a non Apple device. However I agree with everything you’ve said in this post.

It does have Bluetooth 5.0. But, for whatever reason, Apple doesn't permit that hardware and software to be used for streaming over that signal process, enforcing the use of WiFi (by way of a
Airplay 2.0) streaming only. I believe that the Bluetooth inclusion in the device may be for some type of quick device handshake. On the plus side, we can hope/wish that Apple, with an update, might free up the hardware and software to allow for Bluetooth streaming. I for one wish they would.

According to Apples tech specs it does. Have I missed something?

It does but you can’t use it for streaming. It’s airplay only from Apple devices.

I do but it’s fundamentally broken.
They disconnect at random times from the Apple TV and you have to resync them by holding play, and selecting the stereo pair again.
Mine is much more reliable than this. It generally stays connected. It only disconnects if I take a call on there and then I only have to reconnect it via the control centre on my phone or iPad.

It has Bluetooth which uses it only for the pairing and setup process. It's funny when people compare the HomePod to speakers like Sonos One or Amazon Elexa. They're not even on the same level. Like many have previously stated the HomePod is first and foremost a speaker built specifically for audio. The smart features are just an additional layer on top of that which can be improved via software updates.

I bought this speaker for music listening, the other features are just bonuses. Some of us are willing to pay the price for the audio engineering that went into this thing. The sound is really amazing compared to the other speakers I've listened to. That's what makes this speaker stand out from the rest, the audio. Siri works fine for what I need it to do, it's not like I'm going to oder a pizza or call for uber and ask who the 35th president is. That's all cool and dandy too, but seriously, how often is anyone going to ask their smart speakers questions like that on a daily basis?
