The whites take a bit longer to change color, everything "greasy" - like fingers, hands - that touch the black one will make it shiny...
so the palmrest gets really shine quite fast

ok so for christmas i wanted a black macbook. and i saw what my parents got me in there car (not on purpose!). and it was a white one. and my parents didnt know that i saw that it was white and there asking me which one i want for sure a black or a white macbook. so what should i tell them that i REALLY want a black one or just save them the trouble of taking it back and just say the white is fin also. what should i choose?!?

My god! You are one lucky person! My parents would never offer me a 1000$+ gift for XMas. Are you sure it was for you? Maybe they bought a MB for them:D

I would definitely go with the black one 'cause everytime i see a white MacBook, the palmrest is all dirty, some sort of brown spot. It's disgusting!

I have a BlackBook C2D and it is a major b**** to keep it clean. Yes, the track pad is real shiny, but the rest is still mat. IMO the black looks better, so that is what I bought. I bought two white C2D MacBooks for my kids last year and they both look great still. They take about as much care of their MacBooks as you can imagine a teenager would, but no stains, only scruffs from rough handling. I say if it is a gift, enjoy it. If you are buying it, get the color you want. But whatever way you go, spring for the iKlean set with the micro fiber cleaning cloth, it is essential to keeping them looking like new.:apple:

The black ones just seem "un-macish" in a way, not sure why. Its all personal preference though. If you can, I'd go see them in person. Remember that most (if not all) Apple peripherals are white... The white ones seem to last longer in the end too but it really depends on how well you look after it (both can take quite a battering, just look at mind ) and the environment its in.

I have a used white macbook, and my mom bought a new black macbook. Side-by-side, I like mine better. There is a little smudging to the right of the trackpad which I haven't been able to clean off, but its definitely not yellowing noticeably.

Given that I have a Dell and an HP (and before that had a Thinkpad) which are various gray/black/silver tones...I think the white is very refreshing.

I'm actually selling my BlackBook.

It's extremely shiny after 4 months of use, and yes I clean it regulary... when I sell it, I will get a white one and max it out.

Personally, I have a white MacBook and I think it's one of the most elegant, gorgeous computers out there. I had no issues deciding to get the white one instead of the black model. However, I have to say, the white Apple logo on the black model looks incredible.

the black feels kinda like a MBP but it is still plastic and frequently catches fingerprints, but they are easy to wipe off.. but the blackbook does look cooler nonetheless. and if you even care i will be getting a black macbook when/if they are updated to a lighter slimmer and aluminum form, if the update is ugly or if there even is one , I'll just get the current model which still very hott. but don't wait any longer than that. :D:cool:

I think that as long as your parents ASKED you whether you wanted black or white, and they don't KNOW that you saw it being white - you should PLAY DUMB,and just say the truth, like, "Gee, that's so exciting! I think a black one looks really cool! - how about you (dad) (mom)...?"
That's a parent's advice. As long as they asked you, and don't know that you know the one they got was white, what's the harm?

Mentioning Blackbooks and such, I remember why I had wanted a Blackbook for a while: it sort of resembles the Powerbook G3 "Pismo" circa 1999 or so. Google that to learn more about it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've had a long day at work today and I go in tomorrow at 10 AM. It is now 11:45 PM.

Gnite!

Tell your parents you really want the Black. They still have time to return it and get the right one, they won't feel bad because they know they got what you wanted.

If you just accept it then you will deep down inside know you didn't get what you really wanted and it will eat away at you not letting you fully enjoy the gift. If you tell them and they still give you the white one, GREAT! I mean you'll be happy, they'll be happy and you'll at least know that you tried.

Either way, enjoy the new Mac and give your parents a big hug and make them feel appreciated!
