Apple don't sell innovation, they sell great products.

Blackberry don't sell much.

I have no real desire to have a phone that tracks the movement of my eyes just because someone proved it can be done. To what use exaclty? If Samsung or Blackberry "innovate" the design of their phones so that they are more anally insertable I'm not buying one.

I think Apple had high hopes for Siri as an interface tool. Sadly, it's been found lacking and subsequently they've been caught short.

There are a lot of things that Apple could do to enhance the iOS experience, lock screen options being a fine place to start.

iOS 7, come in number 7...

So, three years from now, Apple will be on iOS 8, looking at iOS 9, and pushing an uber reliable mobile OS and hardware. In the meantime, It wouldn't be difficult to assume that iOS is being rebuilt from top to bottom with a revamped UI as the next generation Apple mobile OS.

Then Apple will be the "fresh" OS and the others will be "stale" and "boring".

There's no odds in living on the bleeding edge, and good luck to Blackberry.

I'm the first to admit that iOS could do with some revamping, it's no doubt happening as we speak anyway.

It took Blackberry long enough to 'innovate' and, Ahem...

Don't change for the sake of change, you have to find a way that is truly better or the hate of the new product will hurt you more like maps

I agree, however, Maps wasn't "change for the sake of change". As I understand it, Google wouldn't license it in the same way as before, so "Maps" was forced, rushed, and poorly executed. The fault of both companies at the expense of consumers.

I'm not trying to be clever with you, just thought you might be interested :)

S beam should have been an iPhone feature from the start.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic! I have had my S3 since September last year, after being underwhelmed by the iPhone 5. Let me assure you that S-Beam has not once been used in my life. At no point have I thought, "hang on...I can S-Beam you that photo". Besides the fact pretty much everyone I know who's my age (going on 22) has an iPhone, it's rare to be with someone with a compatible Samsung device.

I agree with you that iOS needs a serious overhaul - it's the exact reason I moved to Android late last year to wait for iOS7 + new iPhone this year. I don't particularly want to be using Android...it's just the better OS right now in my opinion.

Edit: As for Blackberry execs making these comments...pfft. Apple fan or not, I think we'll agree that they can 'jog on'.

I will take quality over quantity any day.

Apple could easily crank out updates every week with flashy gimmicks galore (Hello Samstolen) however Apple prefers to only release finished (not Beta) quality products to market that customers actually use.

I feel very good about Tim & Jony at the helm, I'm pretty sure they still live and breathe this philosophy at Apple:

"We just want to make insanely great products"
Steve Jobs

sure, more innovation from apple is needed, as it's needed from everyone. but saying that after coming out with the Z10 is just lame.

Well, he's right.

Since Apple is trying so hard to eliminate the jailbreaking community, they're going to have to look outside for innovation. I expect to see them copy some of Android's ideas pretty soon. Jobs never had a problem with copying ideas that were good, does the current Apple executive team feel the same way?

But twice a year hardware updates are necessary IMHO. Once a year updates are playing catch up, not catching up and going beyond.

Apple needs to stay above their competitors, not behind.
Once a year is not playing catch up. How come you think the products will be less of an update with yearly cycles? With yearly cycles they have more time upgrading and making products with more news than if they do it twice a year. And it requires a lot more work to do this as far as manufacturing goes.
Lets look at the biggest competitor:
Galaxy s3 released 29th of may 2012
Galaxy s4 released 29th of April 2013
That's 11 months.

...

when iOS 7 hits it will be more of the same and people will be saying wait for iOS 8 that is when Ives will have more influence but really I think Apple is trying to keep it simple and I think they are having trouble combining simplicity with advanced functions, the jailbreak community seems to be doing things that Apple should have been able to do but didn't. I think it has to do with Legacy device support at some point iphone 4 will have to be dropped from support but the issue is its still for sale!

Agreed, while it is a little awkward hearing this from BB it still rings true. I hope Apple pushes the envelope a lot more with the iPhone 6, I think we all know that the iPhone 5S will have a better camera, more capacity maybe and a new OS but not much. It will be like they stood still for three whole updates. :/

Is it really iOS that is stale or the user interface on the front? Does the OS function smoothly to allow good apps to work and malicious or defective apps to be harmless? Do apps have a reasonable set of tools to access the data and hardware they need without compromising security? Hasn't Apple continued to refine the best mobile OS out there?

People think a few slick tiles with live cam feeds of other people's lives and flowing ticker signs showing the current value of your stock of social contacts will make this a better phone.

The user interface is stale. I don't think iOS is stale.

What a load of bull'. Especially coming from the CEO of Blackberry, not exactly the most innovative company around...

Apple has come out with some great products and will continue to do so. The problem is that the bar has been set so high with previous products that consumers expect 'revolutionary' changes each time a new product is launched.

I think we can safely say, Apple knows exactly what they are doing. They are not known to just sit around twiddling their thumbs.

At this point, all that can be done on any smartphone platform is to keep the look and feel fresh. That's hard for Apple because iOS appeals to so many people because its so simple and easy to use--as long as you do things the way Apple wants you to do them anyway.

I'm looking forward to iOS7, but I just can't see how it could possibly be a dramatic change. I'm expecting a lot of fallout after its release actually.

And Blackberry is the new innovation leader...?

the guy is correct and never did he say that Blackberry would be the one to pull ahead of Apple. he simply pointed out the obvious. if you fail to see that, i don't know how to help you

Apple needs something innovative this fall. an iPhone 5S with an A7 and revised camera lens, showcased in promo videos with Jony Ive blabbering about how it's the best iPhone yet and how perfect it is... just won't cut it anymore.

How do you know? You can't see it. That's the whole point of a retina display. Better than retina makes no sense, you can't see it.

Yes you can. Depending on what you are doing, you don't always hold it a foot from your eyes. When I need to read small markings on components or read a schematic, I have it closer to my eyes, and can see the individual pixels. Not a big deal, but the iPhone does't have the BEST display anymore.

But twice a year hardware updates are necessary IMHO.

Nonsence. I absolutely don't care if my phone has 2, 4, 8, etc. cores. iPhone 4S is fast enough to fulfill my expectations.

And iOS doesn't need new look. Why? Simplicity is the main goal.

As an iOS fan, I have no problem saying that this is exactly the type of criticism Apple needs. They need to be pushed.

When you have Blackberry speaking down on you, you know it's time for a change.
