It took them this long to realize that selling used iPhones is a bigger business, welcome to the party BlackBerry

I'm genuinely on the fence about this as now that BBOS has access to the android store via Amazon that's sorted the lack of apps and opened it up wider than Windows 8.1 app potential

I do think the passport is a little odd looking but I would use one, and can't be any more ungainly to get used to than the 6+... don't think I would sell my 6+ to give it a try though, but may pick one up just for the experience of it.

You could use the Amazon Appstore since a long time, and it is not the only source. You can even install Android packages directly by clicking on the downloaded file.

Where are they getting the money for this?

Deal with iPhone refurbisher?

----------

Wow! This will take about $500 off of BB's bottom line from the two people that will do this.

----------

Ahh! It's an attempt for BB to get cheaper iPhones!

You know you can refurbish the phones and sell them 'like new', right?

I feel like I would accidentally cut my fingers on one of those corners.

That is on unattractive phone.

I'm going to be shot down in flames on this forum but...

BBOS > iOS. By a long long way. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that BBOS is the best phone OS out there at the moment.

So yeah, I wouldn't trade my Q10 for anything in the world. Best phone I've ever owned by far. And if I had a spare iPhone lying around, I'd probably take BlackBerry up on this offer.

Well...It will probably a short line to get in on that offer.

Nope, BB needs iphones that bad.

Maybe they had the excellent idea of recycling the mountain of unique 4 to 6 screens into new "green" budget small BlackBerry models.

Given that the 6 Plus is not included in the offer, this would look very much so.

Cared to elaborate a little bit on how you disagree with the market's voice?

How is getting rid of my iPhone 6 and getting a Passport a "Trade Up" by any definition of that term? ;)

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I guess people who aren't hardcore Apple users/fans, would take BB up on this offer.

For those of us who wouldn't even consider this, at least it offered a nice chuckle.

Wait, Blackberry is still in business?

Seriously, though, I would love to see the actual number of people in each bracket that take advantage of this promotion. Particularly the iPhone 6. I'd say it's going to be somewhere between low and embarrassingly low, possibly hilariously low, but then even overall total sales are embarrassingly low at this point.

To me, what is scarier than this asinine upgrade offer, is the fact that the CEO said the Chinese market isn't a priority right now.

If Apple and Google are making the efforts to go after what is supposed to be a potentially huge market, how can a company (trying to maintain its proverbial head above the water) ignore that market???

Maybe he has a genie in a bottle, but I don't think so...

Because the Chinese are massively switching to inexpensive Chinese phones. There are plenty of other places where you can sell.

i thought they told people that bb passport was selling like hot cakes... 200k or something... guess 199k of them return it in no time...

I Agree

Too bad most people on this forum will blindly state otherwise. I used to recommend apple hardware to everyone, now not so much. People at some point must admit that the company is screwing up in some way more than ever before.

I for one have used android phones since gingerbread OS, iphones since the original model, and even windows phones. BBOS 10 is in my personal opinion the better one.

Trading Up

It seems the people left at Blackberry are trading their legacy phones up to get iPhones.

Give me your iPhone and you get my crappy BB and $550!!!!

More like a 'Trade-down' than a trade-up. With BBM now available on iPhone, I really don't see the appeal in Blackberry phones for everyday consumers anymore. For business users, well, unless it is a BYOD company, I doubt company phones are allowed to be 'traded-up' without authorisation. So in the end, this program will probably have little impact in sales.

popularity isn't a measure of quality.

By your logic, Windows is installed on 95% of the world's computers, therefore it is the best OS and apple should just stop making Macs.

While it's great that you love your Q10, only the blindest fanboy would assume that any OS is "the best" universally. It's just not true. Not even for iOS. Not for Android. Not for Windows. And yes, not even for Blackberry.

Fine, whatever, the best for me Mr. Pedantic. I was speaking for myself, not the world. The clue is how I was the one who posted it.
