what do they use to shoot the supposed 16k video on some of the other immersive apps that aren't apples?

Just here for the "I won't buy one, therefore there isn't a market for these" and "if they don't sell like iPhones, what's the point?" type comments, and I have not been disappointed.

contrary to the usual jokes about Vision Pro, thousands of users buy Vision Pro every day and consume content on it. Yeah I know, nothing compared to iPhones, but there is a market for VR/3D content and it is growing every day.

Thousands of people are buying Vision Pros every day?
Do you have a source on that?

I was at the Apple Store this weekend and I asked rep who did my laptop pickup and trade in...

I asked: "how's the Neo selling?"

He said: "like hotcakes!"

Then I asked: "What about Vision Pro?"

He did this face ...
😬

There are a number of custom built solutions out there. But as you can guess, they cost a lot more than a paltry $30K

Really wish they had this at Coachella. Would have been a system seller streaming Coachella acts live on Vision Pro. Come on Trent Reznor aren't you like an Apple employee? Can't you get Apple to broadcast your Nine Inch Noize set on Vision Pro?
Would love to see NIN or KMFDM with Vision Pro!

News about GoPro MISSION 1 would have been more relevant to the site’s target audience. Obviously there are not so many people who can shell $29k on a camera, as well as Blackmagic doesn’t really need free PR at this price point

You guys can poo poo all you want but this camera is actually kind of a steal with the quality of VR it can capture. The debut at the BBC Proms looks fantastic.

Smart people will be buying these and producing mind-blowing VR videos for the eventual surge of demand for more VR content when Apple eventually releases a cheaper, more consumer-friendly headset. It WILL happen and all the naysayers are going to look really dumb.

If only Apple sold a professional grade machine that could actually deal with 100Gb networking!

Something that could be upgraded with various, like, cards! Even industry standard ones!
yes, this one is odd. To use 100GBe you need a card currently. So an external chassis for hostig said card then? A nasty hodgepodge kind of thing that could have been solved of there just was a mac pro around. But maybe apple didn’t tell black magic that they intended to kill their pro line and soon also the AVP ? Or it is the other way around? The next mac studio will come with optional 100Gbe? Or even an ultra modeö that actually host a slot or two?

This is not $29,000. To record anything you need the Media Modules, which are $6,000 each for 16TB, and it shoots dual 8K streams, so that's gonna fill up fast. To fully kit it out with an EVF and the media modules, plus a media dock, it's more like $60,000. It's still not that expensive for a professional camera - the Alexa and Red cameras are still very expensive, but given how limited the audience is for this type of content, it's a lot.

The other problem with this is that you can't actually shoot drama with it - at least not one that's going to look any good. It has 180 degree fixed lenses. So you can't shoot on a set that doesn't have a complete ceiling, you can't put any lights forward of the camera, you can't use boom mics, you're limited in the use of special effects because rigs cannot be hidden out of view, and you can't move the camera on a dolly because you'll see the tracks. So this is really limited to live events and concerts where those things don't matter.

If Apple manages to lower the cost of the AVP, this might actually be a format that people are willing to pay for, otherwise it's giving 3DTV vibes. I think most people would much rather pay to actually go to an event or concert in person, and those that can't go or won't pay are likely to just watch regular video coverage.

Wow! Thousands! 2,750 daily would make that over 1 million a year. Did not know the AVP was selling like hot cakes. 😊

Good for creating AR/VR/3D content in general. Not sure how many will be sold especially considering the number of Vision Pros in the market.

It’s a highly niche market and even Apple knew a heavy $3500 headset wouldn’t sell well (nor could it sell very well due to the very limited manufacturing capabilities for the displays). However, the Vision Pro does allow Apple to get a head start in the AR industry and building the Vision OS ecosystem will prove a massive advantage once AR technology catches up to the point of delivering a full Vision OS experience in glasses form.

In other words it’s niche… but just for now due to technology limitations. There’s so much R&D for AR displays in the various tech companies that it almost feels like a silent war getting ready to break out. Once they crack it (and it’s getting close) AR glasses will be a very big market.

The goal of Vision Pro was not to be successful in itself but to help make Vision OS as a AR platform successful and set the standard for an AR OS.

It WAS a very niche market. Now AI/CR glasses is a mass market and a product category that is on fire in China, dominated by companies that few Americans or Europeans have ever heard of. Now that I see the use cases for them that people are developing, I want in on it. Meta is not a company I generally admire, but at least they have a product - though not a particularly compelling one. I would buy the Rokid today, but there isn't that much to do with them outside of the Android ecosystem. There will come a day soon when everybody wants these, and I hope Apple will have a competitive product - they don't today.

Many people who bought the Vision Pro rave about it, but many of those people don't realize that today you can choose from several products that put 90% of their capabilities of VP in a simple glasses format, without having to wear that heavy thing on your head.

Capability doesn’t really matter with these other devices when they don’t have the content.

Thousands? Where? The last reports I've seen via here and elsewhere were that some stores couldn't even sell 1 a week or even 1 a month in some stores.
