getting no where quick with this install. its not even pulling 1 kb/sec now... with over 2 gbs left to download.

Absolutely brilliant game to play. LOVE it so far. Gameplay is such a massive improvement over D2 in so many ways. And for all those people out there who claimed it would never run on an Air. On low settings the game runs as smooth as anything. I'm on a 2011 high end 13" i7 Air. It looks pretty poor though with all the settings turned down. This game has definitely made me wanna get a 2012 15" MacBook Pro revision with a thunderbolt display.

I didn't get into the gameplay in D1 or 2 (though I did enjoy the stories).

D3 feels a lot better. Very meaty.

I've dabbled a very little with all the classes, and they're a lot more fun than I thought I would be, with the exception of the wizard who feels a lot less fun than I thought she'd be.

I, too, have my pre-order in, and am looking forward to playing the full game in a month (or so).

Very silmilar to D2, meaty indeed.
Only difference is you don't have to hold alt the whole time, unless you want to.

D1s biggest problem was walk speed. Sierra fixed that (in town) with Hellfire - the disjunct expansion.

The skill tree seems less cool. I liked the (later added) synergies in D2, demanding intelligent use, or you're character goes to hell...on hell.
We'll see how it all works in 4 weeks.

I almost thought they would give me a choice of attributes while crafting, so long as you've obtained that attribute by destroying something similar...Skyrim.

Being able to "level" crafting, by buying into it with gold, fixes the currency problem the series has always been plagued by.

And the auctions...
with gold...or real cash?
does that mean you can sell your own stuff, legally?
or only for Bnet bucks or some crap...

Using a Macbook Pro (early 2011) with 8Gbs RAM and SSD, I can play the game with all settings turned to max and even in window mode (more resources heavy than full screen)... the game looks great with stable FPS. As for the gameplay: The beta is 2-5 hours long depending on class, player's skills and amount of exploration. Leveling is easier in my opinion compare to Diablo II. The Demon Hunter is great! The Monk and Barbarian not that much, but maybe in higher level they are better...

Diablo 3 on 2011 air

I know the question has been asked many times now but the only computer I have at the moment is my 2011 i5 MacBook air.

I've read a number of people's experiences with the diablo 3 beta on these machines and the opinions vary (I guess based on what some people find is acceptable to play on and I guess the fact that it is a beta comes into it).

I guess my main question is, would it be worth a shot? I know it is going to sound like a jet taking off in the room with the fans going but should I be able to achieve reasonable fps on low settings or am I just wasting my time?

Barb seems kinda pointless now.
The biggest incentive to tank in d2 was first dibs on drops...If you aren't whirlwinding across the whole damn room.
Got a monk to 12 and it's pretty fun.
Almost too easy to hit everyone when they circle you, great for exp bonuses though.

2009 MBP held up well on low settings.
Till it crashed on exit.

I just came here to bitch about this. It's terrible. I used up 20% of my battery playing about 5 minutes. The fans were on full speed, and the game was stuttering to the point where it was unplayable.

----------

Hmm not sure why but my Diablo III Beta folder size ended up being around 5.4GB. That's with my installer showing the complete green bar on "Optimal." I coulda swore the Installer said it would be 15GB total so I was a bit confused.

I even moved the folder around and ran it again, just to make sure everything was in there.

Probably 15gb total, 5 for the first 12 levels worth of data.

Crazy...Im using a single core AMD 3800+ PC back from 2005 with a GeForce 7900 and it's running the game ridiculously smooth..couldn't believe it and I have the shadows and textures on High.

that's weird. i'm using a late 2010 mba11 and i find the game perfectly playable. i haven't even got the setting on ultra low, just low fx and no anti-aliasing. sure, it's not amazing graphics or ultra smooth performance, but it's definitely playable.
really enjoying it so far - i'm a diablo noob, so glad to try it out in beta to make sure its worth buying it on release. and looks like the beta testing is proving worthwhile , just got kicked off the game again so i guess they've found more issues and are making fixes.

Tried a bunch of times every 15 minutes or so.

Stress test: FAIL!

Next time maybe don't wait 11 years.

You seem to be missing the point of a stress test.

The login servers not being able to handle the load is a "success" as far as testing goals are concerned. This is exactly why they are running this test. They want as many people as possibly hammering the servers to figure out if their systems can handle the load, and they gain valuable data from it which they can use to improve their systems by the time the game is released.

Of COURSE the first hit is free. This is an established practice among dealers.

EDIT: Yea, 'the server is bad' IS the point. they are basically launching a deniall of service attack on themselves.

Not a bad game, and I am pleasantly surprised my iMac can handle it on max graphics despite its subpar graphics.

However, I am finding the gameplay quite slow paced and boring, so I will likely be giving it a miss (or borrow it from my friend after he is done with it). Looks like blizzard just saved me some cash.:p

i know the download for the installer is only 49 mb, any idea how much mb/gb you need to download total? Careful with data cap.

5.48gb

----------

Game's lagging just the slightest bit on 2560x1440 res on my imac. :(

Even on a tower PC there aren't a lot of GPUs that are able to run the new games at a reasonable FPS at that resolution, and the iMac has a mobile version of the GPU (since most high end GPU cards consume as much power as an entire iMac).

Graphic card is everything here. Plus laptops computer have an eco-mode for when they aren't connected to a power source (or if they are connected to a power source but the battery is out).

Error 37: you have to try to login about 5-10 times in rapid succession. Copying your password to clipboard works the best.
Paste your password > Click Login > Error > Repeat the cycle

Good luck!

(Joined just to say this) If you notice the system requirements are higher for a Mac than a PC. Like many newer Mac games, the Mac version might be using some variation of wire or cider. The Mac version might just be an emulated PC version. Torchlight is a good example. So the Mac version might require a more powerful computer to play the game as well as a weaker PC.

My (2009) Mini still has 10.5 so I haven't tried playing the beta on it (it requires 10.6). I also have a Windows 7 AMD A4 laptop, have installed the beta, but haven't gotten past the character selection without server busy messages. The beta runs out on Monday I believe, so hopefully I'll get a chance to play enough to decide if I want a copy before that.

It worked fine for me early last night.
It would lag a bit every once in a while, but got progressively worse.
I got off to play Borderlands with a friend for a bit, got back on and couldn't resume my Witch Doctor game.
Haven't tried yet today, but it does work on a 2011 macbook air! :D

Well, after getting the game and playing up to lvl 8 so far, I can say that my GT120 isn't up to the task, even on the lowest settings. The game completely freezes every couple min or so, then resumes after a 3-4 sec freeze. :(
