(Joined just to say this) If you notice the system requirements are higher for a Mac than a PC. Like many newer Mac games, the Mac version might be using some variation of wire or cider. The Mac version might just be an emulated PC version. Torchlight is a good example. So the Mac version might require a more powerful computer to play the game as well as a weaker PC.

The drivers for OS X simply just aren't as good as they are in Windows, which is the best gaming OS by far, both in terms of performance and variety.

Blizzard games are all native, including D3.

The installer won't work for me. It just creates the folder structure and then stops at showing "Installing - 9%". Never even tries to download anything.

I had a similar issue on my windows PC, I just restarted the computer and that seemed to worked.

LOL, as soon as I posted this it suddenly started downloading ^^ And that with 2.5 Mb/s o_O

Looks like finished product to me

I see a lot of people have had trouble this weekend. I just wanted to say, I downloaded D3 and played it all the way through last night without a glitch (except it took me a while to realize that the login ID it wanted was actually my e-mail address, for those who report the login butting remaining greyed out). It let me in on the first login attempt and ran like I would expect the finished product would.

I'm running the iMac in my sig. Played through as a barb on the default settings it gave me, which were 1344x756, medium to high settings, AA off. No lag anywhere, even when I had skeletons all over me. I do wish it looked prettier. At these settings, it looks only a little better than I remember D2 looking. Tonight I'll try bumping the settings and see how it goes.

I hope Blizzard gets it ironed out so everyone has a good experience as I did, but it looks to me like they're on the right track.:D

My MacBook Pro is starting to show its age. I can't run this past the first quest without it fully freezing every few seconds. Will likely never get to play D3

A lot better than last night!
Worked flawless just a few minutes ago.
No lag at all, perfect!

My macbook air never ceases to amaze me.

You seem to be missing the point of a stress test.

The login servers not being able to handle the load is a "success" as far as testing goals are concerned. This is exactly why they are running this test. They want as many people as possibly hammering the servers to figure out if their systems can handle the load, and they gain valuable data from it which they can use to improve their systems by the time the game is released.

Still, no queue or anything?
The immediate error 37 I can take, but it was hanging for 30+ seconds. Over and over.

Immediately after I posted that, my next attempt (after 40 or so fails) I got in... and my anger melted away, finally getting what I expected to have in 2005.

Worth the wait?
no.
It might be the best game I've ever played...
But WOWs reign of terror would never have happened at that scale if it had to fight against its brethren.

The only other game I really liked was Counter-Strike.
Which died around the same time.
Only to rise from the ashes 12 years later (Console version does NOT count!)

If I knew this was going to happen I woulda had a damn kid.
He could be working so I could sit at home all day playing D3 and CS.

How do you right-click with a single button mouse? I couldn't use any of those right-click skills. I'm new to gaming on a Mac so I couldn't figure it out. Command-click, ctrl-click, alt-click, none of those worked, and you can't remap the button either.

Been in the beta since December so I don't plan to be on this weekend with likely all the server issues. Great game though. Looks amazing and still has the classic Diablo feel to it which I was worrying they'd ditch to make a WoW clone.

I know it's a matter of taste but I was disappointed that it felt too much like Warcraft and not enough like Diablo. Some of the subplots and characterization were straight out of the Warcraft universe, just a little bit too fantastic for my idea of Diablo. And the visual style of the characters, the PCs and the Skeleton King in particular, felt way too much like Warcraft to have that foreboding style of Diablo.

Major issues here.

On start of the game the first 1-2 minutes runs smooth like silk. Then over 20-30 seconds it grinds to a halt down to maybe 5 fps and stays there.

I need to boot the Mac to get 1-2 minutes smoothness again. If I just shut down and start again it will start being laggy.

Early 2010 top of the line 17" MBP with everything. Ultra weird

I was surprised how well this game runs on a four year old laptop, all on med/high. It's a great game, but I agree with guspasho that it definitely has an essence of WoW about it.

? You don't have a one button mouse you have a two button mouse if its a magic mouse. What kind of mouse are you using?

I think the way the animation is doesn’t feel quite like Diablo but that is made up for in how the game plays. It still feels like a diablo game at heart.

What mouse have to got? if it's a MightyMouse or a MagicMouse then you should be able to set the right-click in the System Preferences before you launch Diablo, set it so that it's a click on the right side of the mouse.

Or if on a laptop and using the trackpad, then clicking with two fingers at the same time, instead of just one, should work as a right-click. Again, check the OS X System Preferences to make sure you've enable this functionality.

OK, was able to join in my first attempt now - it seems like they have fixed the server issues.

As for the game itself: ABSOLUTELY smooth gameplay on my iMac with zero lag and all GFX settings to the max (1920x1200). A real treat to play a game with such an eerie atmosphere and sound effects.

Well, after getting the game and playing up to lvl 8 so far, I can say that my GT120 isn't up to the task, even on the lowest settings. The game completely freezes every couple min or so, then resumes after a 3-4 sec freeze. :(

Ah, the freezing issue disappeared for some reason. Maybe the game was still downloading when I was playing the first time... Still, having to play the game on low settings seems to take away some of the impact that the games environment has. (like the very blocky looking shadows from characters and objects)

Barb seems kinda pointless now.
The biggest incentive to tank in d2 was first dibs on drops...If you aren't whirlwinding across the whole damn room.
Got a monk to 12 and it's pretty fun.
Almost too easy to hit everyone when they circle you, great for exp bonuses though.

2009 MBP held up well on low settings.
Till it crashed on exit.

The still needs optimisation I guess... dunno may I enjoy range combat more in Blizzard's games-Amazon in DII and Hunter/Mage in WoW xD

Kinda looks like the same old crap, tbh.

But a decent Mac client is still good news.

I had fun with it, but I can only play it in small doses as it does get VERY repetitive.

I only played with the new witch doctor class. I'm up in the air if I'll buy it or not. Maybe once the price drops as I don't feel it'll be worth $60 to me.

I'm sure I'll get down-ranked for that but in my opinion Blizzard games are often overrated.

Latency Issue

All lags I have experienced have been caused by server latency issues. Check the latency meter in the HUD.

Gold Still Useless

After such a long development time, I expected much more. I realize this is only the first chapter. However, it was pretty boring. I did not have to think about what I was doing at all. Open the door, break down the barrier, drop the chandelier on top of the nasties and slash on. Was not much fun. The only fun was chasing down those pesky Imps.

The concept of gold is still useless in most cases. The only reason for it's existence is to train the Blacksmith. Even then, the items created do not compare to what can be found during gameplay.

I think I'll wait a year or two for the price to drop.
