That is not a game. It's a predatory microtransaction fest. Like most iOS "games".

It is a shame that we cannot buy games anymore but I cannot blame the companies for doing it when the consumers keep supporting the model. I'm sure some Blizzard employee chuckles when they see that somebody ended up giving them $1000 over a period of months to play Diablo.

This game is not for me, I'm not the target audience, so meh whatever.

That being said, I'm more curious to see what kind of future a game like this has if/when the Microsoft acquisition of ActivisionBlizzard goes through. As a Microsoft subsidiary, focusing on Xbox and PCs, will a microstransaction spinoff of Diablo have a future? We shall see.

Same. I'm not even installing this.

Hopefully Diablo 4 will release for MacOS and not be loaded with this crap.

Agree with both comments. This is why I have a PlayStation and Switch. Buy a game once, play forever. Sure some games come out with DLC and you can argure the value of it, but even then you can generally get them at a steep discount. I'm so far behind on the Assassin's Creed series, I just wait for the current one to go on sale, usually below $20, and then grab it. You can spend way more time than you should in that series without getting micro-transacted to death.

Agree. I was a day one buyer for many Ubisoft titles (and I still love their games) but waiting longer and longer to get bugs and issues fixed has now got me buying later in the cycle. I just picked up Far Cry 6 Ultimate edition for 50% off the release price. I'm 48 hours into it and 52% game progression so I definitely got my money's worth.

Watch Dogs Legion Gold is like $25 on Playstation Store now.

My one upcoming exception is going to be Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope for Switch. That will be a day one purchase.

I considered giving it a go … until I looked at the App Privacy “nutrition label” … definitely not “free”. They Hoover up a lot of data.

I’m really glad Apple introduced the App Privacy so I can make that informed choice.

oh boo hoo cant have fun anymore.. Believe me your phone company knows all your transactions.

The App Privacy info under the game is… something.
Who'd have thought a ******, law-breaking, sexual-harassment-covering-up company, in conjunction with a data-hoovering Chinese developer, would put out a game that's a privacy nightmare filled with microtransactions?!

Interesting. 2018 iPP allows for the 60fps and Image Sharpening toggles to be on (sharpening looks worse IMO), but the 13 PM does not allow Image Sharpening, despite it having a stronger SOC and better screen.

Plays pretty smoothly on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Plays well, but not as pretty looking, on the 2018 iPad Pro (this could be due to the differences between LCD and OLED screens).

I feel like those who splurged for the 2tb M1 iPad Pros are in the sweet spot for playing this mobile. And speaking of, the full install is about 13.5gb, so you better have gigabutts interwebs.

As for loot boxes… you don’t like ‘em? Don’t buy ’em. It’s not required.
Did you change the FPS to 60 in the Graphics settings? Makes things smooth even on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. :)
A few small hiccups here and there when loading stuff that would have been nice to avoid, but nothing major.

Good to see there is also controller support, wasn't sure we'll see that on the mobile version.

Edit:
After playing a while the frame rate seem to have dropped from being smooth to more of a slow motion feel. Hmm…

Edit 2:
Oh, maybe due to my phone entering power saving mode because of the battery. :D

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm not surprised at all. As someone who spent an insane amount of time playing Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 (mostly on Xbox), I think the better word is disappointed.
I had been looking forward to the game when I first heard about it (despite it being a mobile game) but ever bit of news just put me off it more and more. Now I'm at a point where I'm not sure I want to play it at all.

Looks nice and willing to give it a try. Glad to see that it’s a lot less blasted saturated colorful palace that D3 is, but I’m seriously tired of the edgy attitude generic celebrity centric designs… the barbarian looks like angry Jason Momoa, the hunter dude with the crossbows looks like yet another Assasin’s Creed hoodie edgy pal, etc

I miss the days of more detached/less-obvious games where we as the player had way more space for imagination… Diablo 1 and 2 managed that somehow, maybe by luck because of the technology of the time.

Or maybe I’m becoming yet another old fart incapable of embracing change.

I started playing this last night on my 1tb 12.9” M1 iPad Pro and it runs perfectly with everything maxed out. Next thing I need to do is stop being lazy and pair up my ps5 controller to play it because that iPad isn’t easy on the wrist.

I did try it a bit, seems ok, I wish they had enabled the option to run it on the M1 Macs.
Yes I know you can with some trickery but do I want to or will it get you banned for 10 years like some other mobile games do.

Did someone try the if the Windows version runs in Parallels?

It's really fun actually and works really well, only thing I wish is that the interface wasn't that intrusive while using a controller.
One question for the folks who understand, why there's no HDR games yet on iOS? I mean, with the OLED screens of the new iPhones and the MiniLed display of the iPad they would look really great, Is there any technical limitation?

It's not HDR, but the graphics on Genshin Impact for sure blows this away. That's been my go-to game for over a year now. It's a gacha game, so there's a lot of randomness in which characters/weapons/etc. you get, but you can still play the whole game without spending a dime.

Over the year+ I've been playing, I've put in $30 as a fair value for what I've gotten out of it, and I probably could put in another $20-30 for fair value. And they have monthly subscriptions and all those things, but I've seen players on Reddit say things like "I'm a fairly low spender, just $1000 or so...." That's totally nuts.

Sideloading Diablo Immortal on M1 Mac:
Yes, I know we can sideload but it can also end up with a ban.
It's better to play in Parallels, works well on highest settings.
They should allow M1 Macs, there already is a PC version and it works on M1 iPads

I have an Ipad (10.2" screen) without cellular, and an Android phone (Pixel 4A).

Does this require constant internet connection to play, or even at all? The former is only connected around wifi areas.

For the latter, the phone screen is relatively small (2.7" display width), which is roughly equivalent to an iPhone SE. Some games and apps are already unplayable, or far from ideal on there, and it seems this game may be the same.

.

I already have StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 installed, so it's less of a hurdle to do this as well.

Do you not have phones?
Ironically enough, this game is also available to play on PC. Perhaps MacOS someday?

Waiting for the game to be banned at every single country worldwide.

Absolutely everything microtransaction and Pay to Win that exists out there is exploited to the max on this game.

Long gone are the days Blozzard made games to gamers, from gamers. Now they make games to shareholders and people with more money than sense.
FWIW, that's the mobile market as a whole these days. Nintendo released Super Mario Run, free to play, pay a one-time fee of $10 to unlock the whole game (not MTX for consumables). Consumers still complained incessantly and were too dumb to notice that the whole game wasn't supposed to be free. That didn't go well, and Nintendo scrapped that pay model on mobile. This is why we can't have nice things.

If you really want the "better stuff", just get a Switch.

Also the PC version works on the M1 with Paralells and windows 11 arm.

you can...people are not understanding how this game works, some in my team already over 400 hours beta included...you can become Immortal with 0 cents
Here you pay for laziness thats all and for very high end PvP or PvEvP, but again that is for hard core top tier level

Possible to grind without spending a cent, possible, but I would find it very demoralising and prefer not to even start in the first place.

I gotta say, it runs great on everything. What I meant was, the colors looked a little washed out. However, good lord my 13 PM gets hot. It’s much more tolerable on the iPP.
