"AirPods will be able to function as an over-the-counter hearing aid"

If this is true it would be nice to have more color options.

But then people won’t instantly know you have an iPhone and are an Apple devotee. Think of the marketing! You just have to take this one for the team.

You probably aren’t even using those cool Apple stickers they gave you.

I hope Apple does not release this just for the sale of releasing new features to keep sales going while the feature is far from the used to be Apple high standards.

Apple will find ways to put a fully staffed hospital into Apple Watch before they even consider improving battery life.

Why does Tim Cook want me to wear an Ultra and look like some sort of Patagonia pleb?

One thing leads to the other and soon I'd be carrying a Swiss army knife around with me at all times.

🥲

I question his accuracy. I also wouldn't buy a first generation watch with that product in it either.

Sleep Apnea detection would be great if I didn't have to choose between wearing the watch during the day or through the night due to battery life.
It doesnt take that long to charge, I toss my 6 on the charger an hour or so before I go to sleep and then put it back on, hell it even reminds me to do that now

Glad I passed on this years model and last years model and stayed with the Series 7. Blood pressure monitoring is an upgrade I’d pay for even if it’s just a warning when things are going up and not an exact reading.

"The system is designed to just tell a user if their blood pressure is trending upward"

I did some research last year on wearable blood pressure monitors. So far, the only one which exists (and is approved as being clinically valid) is https://aktiia.com/uk/blood-pressure-monitor.

It comes supplied with an arm cuff which is used regularly to calibrate the watch.

As Gurman guesses, the new Apple watch can only work out whether blood pressure is increasing (or decreasing). It's like those fat-percentage scales - they're not at all accurate but they are consistent so can usually report if values are increasing or drecreasing.
This is similar to the body composition metrics provided by a lot of smart scales. The raw numbers can be unreliable, but once a baseline is established, the trend lines are useful.

Well, my blood pressure and snoring problems are all gone, since I started intermittent fasting and lost 20 kg this year. I'd still be interested in a periodic blood glucose reading. Doesn't need to be an exact number, but in the ballpark. Good enough to judge the meal I'm eating from 1 to 5. 🔵🟢🌕🟠🔴

It is not possible to detect an accurate measurement of human blood pressure from an optical sensor. The Apple Watch will provide this functionality in the same way it provides skin temperature; only in reference to the previous reading but not providing an actual measurement number.

Additionally, Apple Watch BP will only be available as part of an add-on kit that includes a specialized band that inflates on demand when taking a measurement. This is the only method the FDA would even come close to approving as a medical device.

So, do I replace my vintage AW3 with an Ultra 2 now or wait until 2024 for the AWX?

Since installing the last watchOS update battery life has never been the same despite trying all the recommended tricks. Bit cheeky Apple but then it was only £199.

I had a reasonably accurate wrist BP monitor 10+ years ago, I can’t believe Apple can’t put one in the watch. Sleep apnea should be even easier. Sounds like politics or price fixing to me. Maybe another $200 option at check out. Greedy greedy greedy I wish there was some competition.

It sounds like it is going to be the same as tempreture monitoring. Where it only shows changes from the norm.
Or so i read, as I've never been able to get temperature readings to work. 🤷‍♂️

Kuo: No Apple Watch Ultra 3 next year
Gurman: 2024 Apple Watch to gain blood pressure monitoring

These predictions are in conflict.

Gurman, here again, is engaging in attention seeking, especially trying to change the subject after his dismal October predictions.

By the way, titling this as coming from “Bloomberg” is misleading. It’s Gurman, not the board or the Bloomberg company, who is asserting this.

This common error is akin to those who report a “Harvard study” as if it came from the university and had its imprimatur rather than simply being a study from a single professor or a couple of researchers located there.

Given Gurman's dismal track record, take this prediction with a large block of salt! Also, look for it to change — in details, and time frame, with more and more hedges and qualifiers.

Bloomberg News would soon fold if its reputation were contigent on Gurman's pronouncements! 🙈 🔥 ❌ 😁
Very true—let's not forget Bloomberg News also employs, and fully backed, the reporters who made the widely-derided claim that Apple and the NSA had discovered secret spy chips on Super Micro server boards.

Quite a personal axe seems to have been ground here. I wonder about the backstory.

Not necessarily, there will be a Series X and that could have blood pressure monitoring. But yes, it would be odd if that was to happen without a corresponding update to the Ultra.

Apple Watch X? It is enticing. I will definitely buy it for my wife and retire her ageing Series 3.
