This is disgusting. I just bought an M1 and now Apple is going to make me upgrade again in less than a year? Apple should have sent out an email letting prospective buyers know ahead of time.

Now that I think about it, this M1 has been acting sluggish lately. If this M1 can’t handle watching cat videos on YouTube, what good is it?

This M1 isn’t even the pro model. How can I be expected to work on a standard M1? It doesn’t come with a GPU, Face ID, or a case of beer, not to mention the base model should come with no less than 16GB RAM and 512 SSD. I feel like Apple ripped me off. This M1 is worthless now.

Apple has really been letting us down on the hardware lately, especially with the M1. Every time you turn it on and or connect it to an external monitor it dies.

I see this new M Air will be thinner and lighter. The memory of Ives lives on. Apple is showing so much courage with this new Air. There is no innovation with Apple anymore. If Steve was still alive....

I just saw a video on YouTube saying how bad this new upcoming model is not worth it and the new Forbes article agrees.

Where is the best place to sell my M1? It looks like I will be upgrading to the new Air when it is released.

I am looking forward to the new and improved M MacBook Air. :D

I honestly wonder what percentage of time the average Mac is used on a desk or table - 90%?

I just don't get the thinner and lighter thing at this stage. Diminishing returns and all that...
Yep, and if you want thinner and lighter then use an iPad. I don't understand the 13 inch laptops at all when you can get a 12.9 inch iPad?

With almost every pc brand having ultraportables under a kilo, an 1.27 kg laptop called Air as a lightest option is just embarrassing for Apple.
Well, weight is functionality. Thinness is brand, looks, and fashion. Should be an indication about Apple's priorities.

All the above doubt and hand-wringing cracks me up. Apple must not know what they're doing.

Looking forward to seeing, and perhaps purchasing, this. Hat-tip to Apple for pushing the envelope while everyone else plays it safe.
Pushing the envelope is good, as long as you're willing to do the right thing in terms of accountability and responsibility when you do inevitably push it too far. If you make an iPad that's so thin that it can get bent when carried in the padded laptop compartment of a backpack - a 'reasonable usage' scenario - but then just shrug your shoulders when the problem comes to light then I'm not sure that's worthy of a hat-tip.

I'm so over the endless obsession with thinner and lighter. I'd prefer a machine that is slightly thicker and heavier if it runs cooler and has longer battery life. Or at least that on the Pro models.

If they keep the price at 999 I may consider a trade in with my current M1.

But lets be honest it won't be. Wasn't with the redesign in 2018 either.

Uuuh this is interesting even to someone like me who bought the M1 Air the day after it was unveiled...

Thinner bezels = OK
Lighter = OK but it's already pretty light
Thinner = NO it's already thin enough
MagSafe = nice to have it back
Upgraded processor (M2) = SLURP
Better screen (miniLED?) = WOW but it's fine already really
USB 4 = nice futureproofing

The thought of a 15" MBA M1X is the very definition of awesome.

As it stands now, I'll just have to pay an arm and a leg for a 16" even though I don't need all that sustained power. I just want the real estate with something powerful enough to smoothly edit graphic intensive Keynotes and some light Pixelmator work. I'm using the M1 MBA as an interim machine and while it's nice, I really miss the 15" screen of my 2013 MBP.

Positive for me is that 16 is gonna feel enormous when I get it later this year!

Wait so we’ll have the MacBook Air, MacBook Air Pro, MacBook Pro 14”, MacBook Pro 16”...

I’m going to wait for the MacBook Pro Air Pro 16”.
Or....
MacBook Air (current)
MacBook Air Mini (thinner/lighter)
MacBook Air Max (15")

MacBook Pro (14")
MacBook Pro Mini (13")
MacBook Pro Max (16")

Heck while we're at it how about a MacBook Air Pro (with Mini/Max variants)

By the way I'm not being serious... but note on these smaller, lighter but powerful models do note the Dell XPS series has been received quite well (and IMO represent the "best" of the PC world) and Apple doesn't really have an answer at the moment... can't wait!

Ah, I hear you. I want a larger laptop than the standard 13”, but I don’t need the Pro horsepower. A 15” Air would be awesome, plus the added battery life from the larger form factor.

But it sounds like Apple wants more money if one wants larger screen (12.9 iPad Pro, iPhone Pro Max, all larger ones are Pro lineup....)

What if this “Premium Air” is meant to pioneer something at the high end (OLED, retina 3x resolutions, touchscreen, etc. and yes 5G and FaceID, read Gurman’s wording carefully, it’s not coming soon but it may be coming in H1 2022 when this ProAir is released) instead of just being a lighter Air?
