Bloomberg, which tech company that manufactures hardware not impacted by global chip shortage? Why Apple being impacted is so special all of a sudden? Plus, those machines are powerful nonetheless. Once supply meets, demand will come. Why bother lingering around an issue originated by global pandemic and say this? Is apple not having a world record sales number for a few quarters because of situations clearly beyond their control this bad that Apple is being “threatened”? Get a grip and stop fear-mongering.

Maybe you can direct these questions and accusations to Mr. Cook as well, since he said the same thing:

During the company's third-quarter earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook warned that the chip shortage that has plagued the industry for the last few months would impact iPhone shipments this year.

Heh… Tim Cook certainly doesn’t need a Mr Obvious in his toolbox.

Ordered my mbp literally moments after the end of the keynote. Happy that it will be delivered next week. Not exactly an impulse buy, I was waiting for it to be released to replace my almost 8 year old Air.
Why didn't you get the MBPro with M1, or even the latest Air at the very least then?

I mean, unless you became a pro filmmaker, 3D artist, or an engineer in those 8 years, what use is the new beast 2021 MBPro going to be to you?

Just curious... Because with so many (non-pros) laptops already available from Apple, I think calling it an impulse buy from you is actually really appropriate lol...

I disagree that it's Apple's potentially biggest sales qtr ever !

The iPhone 13 is NOT on fire ! ... many who wanted a 5G iPhone, got one BEFORE the 13 family was even Announced !

The two new MacBooks are for Pros, NOT for typical Apple consumers ! ... they aren't volume drivers !

So while supply constraints are a nice "Excuse," I don't see it !

ONLY third-party Applications have the potential to trigger sufficient Enthusiasm to drive Apple's sales up !

And here, the App Store is going no-where !

It will remain focused on Game Apps & Apple Arcade until such time that Cook replaces Schiller & Fisher, at which time, if Apple puts the proper Apple employees in-place, will blossom !

And by that I mean the NON-Game App section of the App Store !

And ONLY when that happens, will Apple have it's biggest sales qtr ever !!!

Bloomberg is Out in Left Field !

The new Macbooks would have shipped in a week, I would have instantly bought one.

Since the delivery period is 1 month in my area, might as well wait for benchmarks to optimize what specs to get.

I think it’s ridiculous the shortages are still happening. What’s preventing the manufacturing? Is it the whole cryptocurrency rush?
I wouldn't be surprised if resources and assets are diverted to crypto instead of manufacturing with how crazy the gains are.

This is like retro 5-6 years ago demand. It feels like it hasn't been this hard to get an iPhone so long after launch day in a very long time.

This is just a short time problem. As always, when orders outrun supplies, Apple’s customers wait until the product is available. So the problem will rectify itself. With Windows pc makers having their own, often worse, supply problems these days, it’s not as though people can just skip to that.

Sales are made either way. If they cannot ship this quarter, they ship the next quarter and have two great quarters in a row. No one is buying an android or a Dell because of a few days/weeks delivery time

But wait wait wait... some here say Apple is intentionally reducing production and stock to increase product "buzz," and attributing it to "Marketing 101."

Conspiracies are always a crowd-pleaser! :)

As the pandemic has lessened, demand skyrocketed. At the same time China began ramping up production, they began to have rolling blackouts. China is limiting coal plants to try and be carbon neutral by 2060. As demand for electricity has gone up, the costs of coal has gone up, but China restricts the cost of energy, and power plants refuse To operate at a loss. Also, demand for Chinese goods are at an all time high, putting a crush on world wide shipping. That’s where it starts. From there, there is a world wide labor shortage, so raw materials are harder to come by and harder to ship. It essentially comes down to supply and demand: a lot of demand, and not enough supply, for multiple reasons.

Somebody's jealous! ?

If one can afford it, there's absolutely no downside to having more computing "horsepower" than you might need. In fact, it's advisable, because your needs may evolve.

…or maybe the demand just isn’t as strong for the Apple Watch S7 or iPhone 13 lineup. The 13 announcement was almost as lackluster as the announcement for iPad Pro 4th Gen.

It‘s almost as if Apple and others are making a preemptive cover for possible disappointing quarterly numbers. As some who upgrades every year since the iPhone 6, I skipped the the 13 Pro. I know I’m not the only one.

That's just not true. You can't get the phone directly from Apple for another month. People who already ordered are not seeing their shipping dates move up. There just isn't enough phones available for those who want to buy them, period. I would give them $1099 tomorrow if they would take it, but it's not available.

Adding: They're also at the point that they don't have to wow everyone who bought a new phone last year to upgrade to the new one. They can still break records just from folks upgrading from the 7-8-X-XS-11. I myself would be coming from an 8, for instance.

It is still hard to get a PS5. Fear of the virus will messing with supply lines for a long time

I think the real story here is that Apple’s supply chain is performing remarkably well given how disrupted global networks are right now. Honestly, I would’ve never known there were major issues looking at Apple product availability. Sure, shipping times slipped in the days after product launches, but not a lot more than usual.

I’m not a fan of everything Tim does, but his reputation for organizing supply chains and ensuring production timetables is well earned.
