I'm still not sure what's the point, but I only use chatGPT anyway. My friend has S24 Ultra and never uses anything but the chatGPT app too. All the local stuff is gimmicky and very rarely comes in handy. You also must use the manufacturer's apps, which I seldom do. I like certain apps, often ones that aren't big tech-related. This renders most AI features useless to me.

That’s funny because the last update for iOS 16 was may 2024 so that means if your still on iOS 16 you will still be supported a good 8 months later with security & bug fixes.

And as I said, that update can only be installed on devices which are not allowed to update to 17. If you want to stay on 16 or 15 by choice, you cannot because you will only be offered 17.

Not sure why you’re debating me about this with public information when I’m telling you what I actually have experienced.

Nothing in the link provides examples like the ones in the last group I provided.

All the examples seems to use data which was on the phone and related to tasks you do on the phone.
That is my point. What you provided as examples are not the ones that on-device LLMs tackle.

That’s not true my friend has iPhone 14 Pro & he’s still on iOS 16 & his phone still gets the iOS 16 updates. So I wouldn’t believe everything you read or what Apple say. What you will probably find is that Apple want phones that can upgrade to latest version like 17 they want you to be on it.
My friends mobile works perfectly fine without upgrading to 17 as he feels there is no need & guess what all his 3rd party apps are still working & the same will happen if you choose not to upgrade to iOS 18 because of AI features.

Not surprising and definitely it will be advertised as a 'beta' feature.

1. It’s android and google ecosystem sucks
2. The phone lags in comparison to my 15 pm. Not terribly so like most androids but it’s a noticeable difference.
If as you say your android phones are that bad why don’t you just sell them?
I know a lot of people who have left Apple & went to Samsung & pixel & they absolutely love the experience. And you don’t miss out on features because you have a year old mobile unlike what Apple do to their customers.

Yeah apparently all the new AI features are going to display the wording beta until it becomes officially available to the public in September. Which I think is a really good idea & it’s one of the reasons I put the betas on my mobile

The number of people being so much against AI in total is staggering and makes me dumbfounded.

I'm not talking about people having doubts about this or that solution, or talking about the need for restrictions on certain implementations, or talking about safety. I'm talking about total opponents for whom AI = bad, "remove and stop it!" I'm really reliving the early '00s again. "internet bad and useless!"
Problem of AI is that is is as good/bad as people designing/operating it. AI could truly revolutionize our civilization because if it gets right data it makes brisk assumptions without emotion, bias and any other stuff. It would remove all the BS our society is based on and collapse house of card immediately. It would expose intrigues, corruption, crime and so on. People who control AI are the same who tries to control the world and keep their supreme above it. Ai is as good as good are data it get. And those entities will never give it data that would harm them. Why? How? See video from my recent post in other threed.

I didn't realize that there are so many anti-tech, negative about anything new, or any change in tech MacRumors users.
Almost any thread with something new that is coming there are mostly people saying how stupid, useless, unnecessary it is. Seriously, what are you guys doing here? This a website about one of the largest tech companies in the World, what do you want them to do? Stop innovating, stop changing, and just keep things where they are? Or maybe the biggest innovation is slapping batteries as big as possible on whatever devices they already have?

This is nothing new. Go find the original iPod release thread on here. In general, most hated it, did not see the point of it, price way too high, solution in search of a problem, etc. Take the usual negative chorus phrases and you’ll find them there. Good thing Apple didn’t take that to heart and bail on iPod because “our core fans hate iPod.”

However, and this is key: collective contempt seems to readily flip once Apple rolls out their version of something. In other words, we hate it while it is only available from Apple competitors but then it’s “shut up and take my money” once Apple rolls out their cut at the same. Even more simply: many opinions written down don’t seem to be actual personal opinions but only what seems best with the as is… ready to flip in a second after Apple alters the as is. It's like being at a a party where the crowd is passionate about something that you are not and rather than go against the crowd you opt to say little about the topic or even seem to be with "them." Then, when they come around to a different take- your original take- you seem to come around too and then communicate what you actually feel (and felt) about the topic.

Big example (literally): phablet-sized phones. Go dig into history before Apple went there and sizes above the “perfection” of 4” or the former “perfection” of 3.5” were ridiculed to no end. You can find THOUSANDS of passionately negative posts over several years with high majority contempt for phablets… UNTIL… Apple went there. Then it became “how did we ever get by with those puny screens?” Today, posted wants of a smaller phone are ridiculed and everyone has that “abomination”, “fragmenting”, “gimmicky”, etc, phablet form factor in their (pants with bigger) pocket to be used by that “one hand” that somehow magically grew overnight… and can barely wait for the next one to arrive. 🙄

Apple doesn’t offer any of this rumored A.I. today, so we don’t see the point of it, it’s gimmicky, stupid, useless, wrong, to be feared, job stealing, mate stealing, money stealing, and probably going to kill us all, eat our brains, steal our cars, turn us into Matrix-like bio batteries, etc.

But then Apple formally embraces it and so much of this opinion against A.I. will flip as if we never believed things we’ve written down as recently as only days before the release… as we did for iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, going Intel, going silicon, nfc, phablet sizes, usb-c replacing lightning in iPhone and on and on.

Your image is spot on. Collectively, we're like the stereotypical, anti-change, grumpy old man... UNTIL Apple shows us the new and then we quickly board that train and prepare ourselves to gripe about the next thing others have that Apple stuff does not yet: we'll flip to loving it too, once Apple releases their version of it. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

For about the next year they will release further iOS 17 versions for security & bug fixes anyway. Nobody forces you to upgrade to the latest iOS to begin with you could just stay on iOS 17
You keep arguing this and don't get it. New Features - which are NOT all AI related are things people will probably want (IOS is always years behind as it is - it's about to get home screen features from almost a decade ago on Android) - staying on the old OS won't give you any of those - and how long can you stay on IOS 17? And most people don't even know how to turn off auto updates and wake up to the "IOS X.X.X was installed."

To be fair internet has proven quite bad and for large parts useless. Just look at what social media is doing to kids mental health and how much time people waste watching YouTube or other ahem... video sites.
I know right? There was a time you had to go to a shady building and put tokens in a machine or steal porn out of your dad's sock drawer. The nerve of that convenience. Social media has just shown how ugly people really and always were inside. And damn - knowledge is totally useless. I miss looking up info in a decades old and obsolete encyclopedia at a library.
