Maybe they will add a super fast charging connector as well. To have full battery in 5 seconds...

I don't need this port, others might. Magsafe, I am fine with as long as the charging capability of the USB-C ports is not removed but honestly I have moved on. The crowd-pleasing factor of these rumors has diminishing returns already. Ports or not, MBP 14inch will be a day-one purchase for me.

Irregardless of whether people want specific ports, more articles talking about possible details about next M1 something MacBook Pro models have me anxiously waiting for them to be announced!

New devices still come with usb 2 plugs if they don’t need the high speed as it’s a cheaper connection. Mice, webcams, keyboards, etc. USB-C isnt being adopted 100% for every device in 2021 or 2022

SD card reader is great, too. Not sure if it's common to all SD card readers or just the Mac laptops I've had, but they give me trouble over time where I really have to jam the card in there to get it to recognize it. I'm on a very old Mac at this point, though, which could be why.
You can clean the contacts by putting a small piece of paper towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol over the SD card and work it back and forth in the slot.

MagSafe is probably my favorite feature to come back to the Macbook. I just hope apple has designed it better to prevent the damn cables from fraying so often. I went through 3 chargers because of it.

Thank God. Videographer here. Still nursing along my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, as it was never worth upgrading for a machine that was marginally faster, lacked ports I use daily, and had a highly problematic keyboard. For the folks saying SD cards are obsolete, they are obviously trolling. SD cards are used in so many devices, including cameras and camcorders being released and even just announced in the last few months. And of course we're talking about true professional and prosumer cameras. The Sony FX6 - a $6,000 (body only) camera takes SD cards. The Canon R5 and R6, SD cards. Sony A7Siii - combination ports that accepts CF Express and - wait for it - SD cards. These are cameras so new they aren't even shipping in quantity yet. So no, SD cards are not "dead".

Surprise surprise. Ive gets the boot and Apple returns to the pro market and Macs again rather than what looks pretty to a "designer"

Why ? There are some noise makers who even don't own Macbook who complains about the lack of builtin ports. Question is which port/s widely used so one is more important than other. I like HDMI but all new TVs and projectors support Airplay 2 so I can connect to display from Macbook. How many times I need USB-A for flash drive ? I can go on on on. There are adapters available which give missing ports access when needed.

Isn’t it funny how people gushing over the previous built in SD slot never seem to mention that it’s slow as molasses, due to hanging off a usb2 bus internally.

Quite odd really for any “pro” to not only accept that but argue for it again - generally professionals value their time and I wouldn’t have thought “twiddling my thumbs waiting for a dog slow card reader” was an acceptable line item for most clients.

look at the new higher end cameras, they all have CFexpress slots ... SD will be gone, following CF cards ...
CFExpress card slots make zero sense when quality premium readers are available from Delkin, et al. SD Cards are still way more prevalent and make much more sense if Apple insists on adding a slot to the next MacBook Pro.

HOWEVER, Professionals would be much better served by getting extra Thunderbolt 3/USB4 ports than wasting valuable space on a card slot that at least half of Pros won’t be happy with because it isn’t their preferred format. Actual “Professionals” will be just fine with carrying the right card reader for their preferred workflow instead of whining about carrying a dongle.

A card slot should be completely moot at this point as users can simply hook up their cameras to their MBP via USB-C. If time is of the essence, then you should be pro enough to know you need an external reader.

The majority of users here simply seem to be too cheap to buy an external reader. These are probably to same people who have complained for 4 years about “dongles” instead of simply buying new cables to hook up a USB peripheral without a captive cable to USB-C.

The whining will continue ad infinitum.

I think is not a normal SD card but an adapter for the phone SIM card, which is missing from many LT.

No, I do not want USB type A ports. Nor am I particularly interested in an SD reader. For when I need one and given how rarely I use one, I would be more than satisfied with USB-C or even a thunderbolt compliant adapter. Every Mac should be equipped with a minimum of 4 Thunderbolt 3, if not Thunderbolt 4 ports. I will not miss the touch bar. The only reason for getting rid of it though is to reduce the marginal cost of the computer. Just my opinion.

We need more TB3/USB4 ports, not HDMI or SD Card slots. If MagSafe isn’t integrated into the USB-C port(s), please skip it Apple. I am trying to get rid of all my MagSafe adapters, I don’t want any more. And absolutely no USB-A, which needs to be poisoned, stabbed, drawn, quartered and burned down to the ground.

Same with Ethernet and FireWire. You people are crazy for even suggesting FireWire. Come join us in the present.

Awesome. I am still rocking my MacBook Pro from 2012 and I would miss hdmi and the card reader every day

Good to see there are still some others out there like me rolling 2012 MBPs!

Like you, I’ve been less than impressed with the last several years’ offerings.

I was almost tempted with latest 16”, but was well pleased when didn’t, especially now hearing later reviews and in light of Apple ditching Intel.

I always thought USB C/Thunderbolt show be in addition to, rather than in place of, a variety of ports. [Like the early days of TB.]

Roll on new Macs!
