Skip the USB-A; add HDMI & card slot.

Also Gurman said in a previous report that the new MacBook Pro models would launch around the middle of the year. A little closer than the third quarter range. Here's hoping WWDC brings the goods.
One USB-A for a Yubikey or flash drive. They'll be around for a long time. To replace those just because of a connector change would be a huge waste. Then there's the wired mouse/input device that some prefer. Just one port, that's all :)

Ridiculous! After years removing ports they’re stepping back. Doesn’t make sense. What changed their mind?

SD still has a life for at least 5 years. Camera manufacturers are being very slow to go all in on CFExpress, and even when they do they keep an SD card as the second slot. And this isn't even getting into the consumer grade cameras or micro SD devices

There are lots more places SD cards are used. I use an SD card to upload monthly revisions to navigation data into our aircraft avionics systems in the cockpit.

I get the sentiment but the Sony a7S III is still relatively new and there’s millions of photographers who have no intention of upgrading their camera body any time soon. I can see being on my A7 III for at least 5 more years and I know that I’m not alone. So a new mediaformat, albeit superior is not enough to get a whole industry to swap out gear if the prior one is working just fine for now.
The Nikon d850 used XQD and CFExpress and it is rather old now. Canon and Nikon are all in on CF Express and this is a MBP for the next five years so it should reflect the professional use of the next five years. SD is only used on Sony pro cameras but since that is buffering hell they are moving to CFExpress too, though type A just to be different.

UHS II SD cards are rather slow compared to CFExpress A, nevermind B cards and they are very expensive. I do understand that it’ll hold on for a few more years, but it is a bottleneck and prone to durability and reliability issues.

Well, I guess if they're getting rid of the touchbar that few people used, they have to add something back in that few people use. Waste of space, cost, and just one more thing for crud to get caught in.

oh my, another port rumor ...
Seems that neither Kuo nor Gorman realize that the "real pro" cameras are moving to CFExpress, so why they continue to tout SD card slots is beyond me.
I am a hobbyist photographer and I do own a camera with SD card and likely will keep this for for a few years to come, and I got a Satechi stand for my iMac because Apple so conveniently placed the SD card slot that I used it once or twice at most, and I have a dongle (with SD, HDMI, USBA) for my MBP that I happily use.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING LEGACY PORT BACK, Apple, it's a step BACKWARDS.

While I am all for return of MagSafe and SD slot, I hope new MacBook Pros aren't merely return to the past.

For instance, I want to see improved MagSafe design. Old MagSafe connector tends to fray and leave marks on the connector.

If function key row is coming back, perhaps some of the keys can retain Touch Bar-style display to indicate the state (e.g., volume) and programmability?

Apple Pencil support?

True 2x retina screen at default resolution?

Apple designed USB-C hub?

Apple designed external display?

Seems highly unnecessary and I would be very surprised to see this rumor pan out.
Sure traveling photographers would love this, but even then, usb-c card readers don't take up much space in your bag.

Sd-card is the only one that makes sense ....usbA plz no...a dead i/o that uses bus for nothing when you have 4 ub4

Yup, and then you're not stuck with a legacy port in 5 years when SD has passed into the sunset. As much as I hate dongles, in the end, I think Apple had that generally right, because the machine will never be outdated. The one port that seems to be hanging on a lot longer than expected is USB-A, but even that wouldn't be worth adding back in. Even HDMI keeps iterating versions. Four USB-4/Thunderbolt 4 ports would do nicely.

look at the new higher end cameras, they all have CFexpress slots ... SD will be gone, following CF cards ...
Bingo - there's a bunch of legacy cameras out there that use SD, but the new ones are moving away from it because of reliability and performance issues. Apple's always leaned forward on peripherals...moving backwards would be odd.

Though I'd still like a headphone jack on my iphone , and I hope to heck they don't eliminate the ports on it...syncing 500GB of content via wifi isn't something I'm looking forward to.

And while they're at it, add an m2 slot. What I miss most is how easily upgradable and versatile the 2012 MBP was. (longshot, i know)

Even better: a pop-in M2 slot. Which for production users would be nut-worthy. Every laptop is just standardized at 256GB, pop in the extra M2 storage you need.

Which, even if the technology/cost were routine, they will not do if only because they make a big profit on upselling that internal storage.

Wonder if those micro SD adapters will be compatible. Also easy way for an additional Time Machine backup.

SD cards are phased out by the camera industry, moving to CFexpress
