OT Question for those on LTE. What does the upper left corner show when on LTE? Does it state [carrier] 4G? I haven't tested yet, but in my house, mine says Verizon 3G.

Mine shows this...
Notice that nice clear app icon too!

I am using about 120mb of data per day with web browsing, email, and some app downloads. I assume with no downloads that it could be less. If I were to use 100mb per day for 30 days, that would equal 3 gigs of data. I bought the 3 gig data plan for $30 from AT&T and I think it's perfect for me.

By the way, LTE is blazing!

I think it depends on the carrier. For AT&T, for LTE it shows LTE and for HSPA+ (which is really 3.5G) it shows 4G. I don't know what it shows for regular 3G, but I assume it'll show 3G. AT&T LTE is smoking fast - I'm assuming Verizon is the same. Verizon has better coverage for LTE I think, but I stayed with AT&T b/c I have grandfathered unlimited data and with LTE it's so worth it. I also commute to NYC and so am able to use it a lot.

LTE is stupid fast even in low signal areas. I'm impressed with the throughput. The only issue I have is inconsistent up stream which can teeter between 700kbps to 2mbps in low signal areas.

Lte is indeed fast I love it. When I heard the iPad was going to be lte I was sooo happy I couldn't believe it! Been using lte for a month now with my galaxy note and my god I will never go back, all my devices must be lte from now on exception for my 4s lol!

The iPad 2 was released when Verizon started to offer their first LTE phones. The reason why the 4S did not have LTE was because of the battery life. I am happy that apple waited this long.

1 reason and the other I don't think at the time when the 4s came out they had an LTE radio chip small enough for it. Apple doesn't have 30 types of phones coming out every mont also this is why it seems so much longer that they adapt to it.
I agree with you, I rather them wait until the know it will work with the least amount of issues than saying "ooops, sorry you get 2 hours of battery life.." and other stuff.

Mine does and LTE is enabled. Im supposed to have LTE i checked the map and their LTE checker on verizon.

From the bottom:

Two tests at home with cable Internet
First Lte test with one bar of Bell inside my house
Second lte test in the Annex with four bars
Third lte test in downtown Toronto with five bars
Last test from a bell wifi hotspot in a McDonald's

I was in Calgary this morning and just had to drive downtown to try out LTE (such a nerd thing right)

WOW!!!!!

I turned OFF LTE to start...5Mbps down, 2Mbps up...decent for 3G compared to my small town

LTE on: 54Mbps down, 28Mbps up...HOLY COW

How does your throughput equate to your consumption?

Sure, web pages would load faster, but the amount of data consumed is the same, isn't it? Streaming a song or movie at 5Mbps is the same amount of data as if you did it at 50Mbps. The content size is fixed. Or, am I missing something?

It doesn't. I love it when people say now you can reach your limit faster. A web page is still a web page. The speed it loads at does not magically change the page size

No but if you spend 30 minutes surfing on LTE compared with 30 minutes on 3G you will view more web pages and therefore use more data faster.

You would be correct if you weren't pausing to actually READ what was on the screen! I mean, really, you spend magnitudes more time reading the screen than you do downloading the web page. So, I suppose if you had 30 minutes to just click every link on every page you found, in an attempt to completely fill your time downloading pages, that might be true. Otherwise, I still believe in a 30 minute time frame, if your actually reading what your displaying, you'll consume about the same amount of data.

But, I get your point. :) A better example would be downloading pictures or videos during, say your lunch break. A given amount of time...endless data, you would download more data in that 30 minutes.

1 bar on Verizon LTE, I managed a 5 down. Not even 1 up. When I take the iPad out Monday I hope to get better test results.

We don't have LTE yet where I reside but 44 mins down the road in Houston, the LTE is unbelievable. I feel like I'm doing something illegal using this lol.

Ah so the faster loading times allow you to read faster! Got it!

Not everything on the Internet is text. Someone looking at a sideshow of pictures, for example, would burn through data more quickly.

Indeed most of the ate that loads in a page isn't. Moreover, when looking at a web page, even such as this forum, you're not reading every bit of text. I'm not saying you don't, but as an experiment, time how long you spend on each individual page.

Moreover, when using an app that needs data from the Internet, you're going to get the information you need faster (say a stock price) and be able to respond faster (thus consuming more data.

Certainly on some pages (but not all) I spend less time before issuing another command than then 10-15 seconds it took to load a new page on my awful 3G tethered phone.

Yeah. I wouldnt necessarily be clamoring to.be the first out with lte. We know bad the battery life.on the HTC Thunderbolt is. Even my Galaxy Nexus LTE battery life sucks.

Battery life is not an issue on my RAZR MAXX. You just have to make sure you have a big battery to handle it.

No offense to anyone but A fat data pipe and a data cap feels like a trap. :)

I actually agree with you. I have a grandfathered unlimited plan and curious if AT&T is going start throttling them especially with LTE speeds now coming into play.

For those with data caps, having LTE is almost useless as far as doing anything more than what you did before. It's not like you can start downloading large videos without busting the cap in 10 minutes.

Well, I think LTE is great. I used it for the first time on the train commuting to work this morning. I like to surf various forums while on the train and now the pages load instantly. No waiting. I don't plan on streaming anything using it since it will eat up GB of data. But i just like the overall snapiness of it compared to 3G (which my iPhone uses).

Very pleased.
