Still no bluray...what a joke...there's already a drive built in...may as well make it capable of playing all disk formats. This is the kind of crap that keeps people away from Apple. They think it will hurt $.99 iTunes sales!? How about this...lose $4000 on a laptop sale!
No cheap slot load 9.5mm blu-ray drives. without that it'll never happen.
Cheers,
That's awesome for you and I don't begrudge you that choice. But that does not mean the rest of us are planning to do the same. Indeed, I have a huge Blu-ray library, and would love to be able to play them on my MBP.To be quite honest, I myself sold my blu-ray player... I'm going all digital. Figured no matter what physical media will eventually become a niche market and digital no matter what will always exist. So better to start building up my favorite movie library in digital format.![]()
I still dont get the need of a bluray player on a notebook.
I mean if your going to hook it up to an hdtv, might as well just buy a separate and much cheaper bluray player just sitting underneath the hdtv.
I guess bluray could make sense on a 17" with the 1920x1200 resolution.. but then again the 17" screen is so damn small that 1080p or 720p movies would look exactly the same.
Your reserecting a thread that started in 2009!?!?!?Oh no you didn't! Look man, a lot of people, especially kollege students, have only one major electronic appliance. And a lot of those are MacBook Pro's. Apart from the usual notebook repertoire like checking email and downloading animal porn, I listen to music, accomplish tasks and conduct business, play games, watch movies... wouldn't it make sense to have native blu-ray functionality without a need for extra cables or displays? And, no, watching an HD movie is nowhere near the same as watching a blu-ray at 1080p on a 13" screen. I downloaded a scaled down version of Avatar off one of those "sharing" sites, so I can tell you firsthand. Besides, a Netflix account would make a world of difference. I hope Apple rectifies this in future MacBook Pro's, especially since they're bumping up the resolution on the displays.
It's not "dead" to Apple, it's competing with iTunes (read, Apple sees it as a profit stealer).Your reserecting a thread that started in 2009!?!?!?
If apple has not jumped on the Blu-ray band wagon by now it AIN'T going to happen. Physical media to Apple is DEAD. Just wait for the 2012 MBP with NO optical drive. LOL!! that will get your panties in a bunch for sure.
