No, it's not the first movie in HD, there is a whole spreadsheet to tell you what is in HD and SD!
Please read the thread.
And yes you will be able to redownload the 1080p version once you change your preferences.

So I bought the Best Buy Exclusive version of The Hunger Games, and normally I ignore the Digital Copy Version for a while because I make my own digital copies by ripping the Blu-ray and encoding whatever files I need. However, I felt like getting the Digital Copy immediately for some reason and to my surprise, when I redeemed it, it started downloading the HD version!

Is this the first movie that's doing this at the moment? It's unfortunately downloading in 720p, I didn't realize that it was set up like that in my preferences, but since it's in the Cloud, I'm sure I'll be able to download the 1080p version in future. This is neat. :D

----------

No, they didn't the person that says they downloaded it HD is completely wrong, WB has never allowed HD iTunes downloads! I have added: Lord of the Rings - All Editions to the spreadsheet with SD, No Extras and Disc not Needed!

From personal experience, WB never gave out digital copy codes redeemable in HD.
I would have to agree with emaja

So...I have followed this thread for quite a while but still can't seem to find the answer to the question I had:

If you get the UV code, and you redeem it, do any of the ipad apps (flixster/cinemanow/vudu) actually PLAY the HD version on your ipad?

So far it seems like the only way to access the HDX version is on my Samsung Smart Blu Ray player. Which is quite useless, as if I'm turning on my Blu Ray player, I'll just watch the damn Blu Ray.

Thanks.

lol.

Interesting. My codes for LOTR:EE were SD.

So were mine. Can we really upgrade? Because I'd have rather just bought the thing from iTMS in the first place if I had known my "official" files would be SD. (I just ripped the BRs afterward to have HD copies on my drive that I could watch on an ATV, but they're like ten gigs per movie plus, so not ideal for 16GB iPad travelling and such)

what's iTMS? Just wondering.

[not that i embrace any other sources.]
but, iTunes HD for LotR:EE is about 8-10GB - it would have made very little difference.

personally, i know that one is able to make a 720 or 1080p rip (and discard the 15-20mins of credits!!) at a much smaller size and yet still look impressive on the retina iPad.

Raise of the Guardians?

Does anyone know if Rise of the Guardians downloads in HD or SD with the

digital download form the UK release yesterday?

Pleasantly surprised to find it was HD ( and it downloaded the extras, too )....

Cheers, would rather pay £22 for 3D, blu-ray and HD itunes than £13 just for

iTunes. Are there expiries on the digital downloads, if so is it as simple as

inputting the code and downloading again when it expires?

Is there a U.S. combo pack for Lincoln and does it include an iTunes digital copy? I think it came out today. Thanks in advance.

Many do have expiration dates, it will say on the sheet that comes with the movie. If you have it downloaded in iTunes, it's yours. It won't go away when the code expires. However, movies have been known to disappear from iCloud if the movie goes out of the iTunes Store. If you have the room, I would recommend downloading it so it stays on your hard drive in case it disappears from the iTunes Store.

"again" ?

the code is a one-time-use only.

You can play HDX on the PS3 also.
PC/Mac playing of the movies depending on your settings can see HDX too.
IMHO I don't think you could even see the difference from SD in an iPad w/ such a small screen?

oh, I can tell you for sure [and I believe everyone who owns an iPad with a Retina display(or even without a Retina display) will agree too] - there's a HUGE difference between SD and HD.

an iPhone? maybe. an iPad? unless u've got eye problems.

While I understand, I disagree somewhat. The iPad's square screen has a 4:3 ratio, so then, a movie usually has a 16:9 aspect ratio and w/ no zoom you get 1,024x576 pixels on it, a little bit higher than what you get from SD. Sure an HD movie will have better colors and less pixelation, but for a small screen and the size differences, what you marginally get better w/ an HD video IMO is not worth the extra resources.

before u go on, have u seen it with ur own eyes?
and it was with reference to your initial post: "IMHO I don't think you could even see the difference from SD in an iPad w/ such a small screen?" & look at ur latest post.

Update: I loaded two different format into my iPad just to reaffirm with what I said. & yes, there is still a HUGE difference, huge is an understatement - it should be: MASSIVE difference.
& if u own one and you can't see that with your own eyes - i have nothing else to say.

and in my own opinion ur scaling is flawed because you did not translate it to the resolution of the iPad and the physical size of it. It is not marginal(as what u've said) and it is worth everything for that high definition and clarity for viewing pleasure.

The digital copy code that came with Top Gun 3D is a HD download in iTunes.

I can confirm that Les Miserables (US combo pack) includes a code for an iTunes HD digital download. No disc for the digital copy. Is HD continuing to be a trend for Universal releases?

Both Life of Pi and Hitchcock are SD. Digital copies are on the same disc as the DVD movie (both from the combo pack).

Veep Season One is an HD digital copy. No disc. (from the combo pack). This continues with what HBO/Cinemax has done for Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Strike Back, True Blood and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Yes, there's a combo pack. The digital copy is on its own disc and is SD, unfortunately. I think there may be a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack without a digital copy, so if you do get it, make sure that there is a digital copy included.

Really - most Spielberg releases are in HD - what about the 4 disc set - I'd have to believe that version is in HD - FYI the iTunes release includes every special feature found in the 4 disc collection :)

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like a good movie, but I'm not sure if it's historically accurate. I wish the itunes extras could be played through the ipad though.

They can - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hXD_AmWl08

Apple doesn't make it easy - but it is a heck of a lot easier than ripping a BluRay - the video shows how its done - basically you need to remove the GUI of iTunes Extras - can be done in a minute or two - hope this helps.

Tim

Thanks for the tip.

Sure thing - hopefully one day Apple figures out how to make it more compatible than it is - TV shows in iTunes manage to provide extras as simple video files that are appended to the season (Breaking Bad Deluxe) - perhaps movies could go that route ?
