Just bought a special new steelbook edition of The Big Labowski, mostly because it was $14 but also because it had the movie as BRD, DVD, Ultraviolet and Digital Download. Because it was a Universal release I was hoping for HD digital download but alas it's in SD.

Which in turn made me think "WTF!? Are they now not offering HD digital downloads anymore"?

BUT then I realized that the Bluray was originally released in 2011, prior to me ever getting an HD digital download. So even though some older Universal movies are now coming in HD I suspect that if it isn't a new addition (or a truly new edition as in the case of the new Jurassic Park BRD which were never sold individually) we're stuck with SD. Which stinks (I never understood why, when I'm the kind of person who's purchasing an HD product to begin with, I wouldn't receive an HD digital download). But what can you do?

It would be really great if iTunes offered the option to UPGRADE your SD versions for a couple of bucks (similar to complete my album or the old days where you could update to iTunes plus). I'd be more than willing to shell out a couple extra bucks for the few movies I'd care to see upgraded to HD.

However, what's this about Lord of the Rings coming with iTunes extras. Mine never did and don't even after re-downloading. Granted, mine are from the boxset with everything so maybe that's why?

GI Joe: Retaliation

GI Joe Retaliation digital download is in HD. The download accessible with the code comes straight from iTunes, not from a disk included in the package.

I have the EE box set and it came with the extras. Do you have the EE or theatrical releases?

The new "comic" BestBuy steelbooks of Hulk and Pitch Black are both HD. Paul is not.

I too am hoping for an eventual upgrade option which will hopefully become inevitable in the future as SD becomes the old VHS.

Any idea if Star Trek into the Darkness will come with an itunes code, ideally an HD version. That would makes getting the blu-ray a no brainer

In my experience, when a movie says it comes with a "digital copy" they mean at least iTunes and possibly "Ultraviolet." If there is no iTunes DC, it will usually specify "Ultraviolet." Most of the new ones specify iTunes and UV.

STID says "+digital copy" so based on recent practices, it looks like it will come with both.

Epic will give you an SD version straight from disk. If you delete and re-download you'll still get SD, but also iTunes extras.

USA, btw..

Wow, it's way early there!

Apparently the studios love to keep people on their toes. Sometimes we get comparatively early releases, sometimes same day, sometimes late, and sometimes you have to import because they decide that the market "isn't big enough". That one has always confused me when the local discs are usually bit-for-bit identical to US ones anyway, so it can't really cost too much to release something here... but I digress!

Iron Man 3 is marketed as "Digital Copy Plus" but it doesn't actually say what the "Plus" means on the packaging. Presumably it means HD :)

IM3 seems to be the first "Plus" movie because it's the only one listed on the site (unlike non-Plus movies, you don't enter the code straight into iTunes but rather enter it into the DCP site and it gives you an iTunes code in return).

Now You See Me - HD, plus iTunes extras

This is from the USA Blu/DVD/Digital copy pack. I also got the HDX encode from Vudu. :D

Star Trek Into Darkness digital code was definitely a 1080p iTunes download in the UK, can confirm that. Also came in with the director's commentary and other bits & pieces in the iTunes Extras.
